    I have been riding my K-pipe for a year now. I did not get mine reconfigured with the recall. I love the shifting set up. it is a semi automatic gear box. Neutral does not sit in between 1st and 2nd, it is at the top. Toedown for up shift all the way. All bikes should be done like this. Much more intuitive.

      +Wolf Duff Hey Wolf, it is a cool looking bike. Not sure I could ever get used to the shift pattern though. Do you ever go up to neutral when you intend to go to 1st? That would be the biggest problem as far as I'm concerned.

      Not once you get used to it. N-1-2-3-4 toeing down.
      Not 1-N-2.....
      And it is semi-automatic, meaning no matter what gear I am in, I do not need to hold the clutch at a stop.

      Great video! I once had a Matchless Twin, Brit. Bike. I'm sure I remember, Up for 1st and down for 2, 3, 4. Anybody else antiquated like me? ( age, 72 !) One more thing, your "re-take" rehearsal glimpses at the end are hilarious! I Love Your Style!

      @MCrider Kimco K Pipe is great. It's like the Super Cub motorcycle minus over $2,000 dollars in cost. Is the shift pattern the same as a Super Cub?

    What this guy fails to realize is that Honda at one time owned a percentage of this company and they have been producing machines for over 50 years. They make motors for BMW and Arctic Cat. I have ridden many of their ATVs and Sided by Sides and scooters. For the money they are great machines very reliable. They have a 2 year warranty on their scooters. if you compare their prices to The big Japanese mfgs they usually beat their prices by a thousand or more for a similar size machine.
    These are not the Chinese junk that become boat anchors after 6 months. They are Kymco USA out of Spartan burg,SC

    I don't see a problem with it. The Honda ct70 that I've had since I was a kid is 4 up. crf50s were 3 down... If you want a really interesting ride try my Aermacchi SS350 where the shifter is on the wrong foot.

    I'm quite sure the transmission wasn't installed wrong way round but only the shifter.
    This is possible on many bikes and many people prefer it. (All race bikes are like this) and also very simple to fix.
    So not a big deal.

      If the bike has a shift linkage you can do that. Most standard style bikes just have a shift lever right off the spline with no linkage so there isn't an easy option to reverse it.
      Still how does it get through testing? It doesn't, nobody QA'd these bikes.

      Maybe it's just the standard in Taiwan and so it shipped out like that to the US as the "norm"?

    • @MCrider
      @MCrider  8 років тому

      Who knows?
      Maybe they should have gone with the more obvious shift pattern of 3 N 2 1 4. :)

    The shift pattern on any street motorcycle is 1-N-2-3-4-and so on. Other countries may be different. You you want a car with the steering wheel on the wrong side? That might make shifting awkward for right handers. Or suppose the clutch and brake were reversed? Or even the shift pattern were backwards or all of the above? I did own a 1966 Triumph Bonneville with the shift lever on the wrong side, but the British drive on the wrong side of the road. The gears were the normal one down, one up for neutral, the rest up, as it should be. Unless there is a linkage, there is nothing that can be done to reverse the pattern. My local Kymco dealer has 2 in stock, and assured me the backwards shift pattern had been corrected.

    Its more than that. i own one. The transmission is actually just 4 down. which is weird but there fixing it to 1 down three up.

    • @MCrider
      @MCrider  8 років тому

      So where is neutral?

    • @thevegas737
      @thevegas737 8 років тому +1

      all the way up

    • @MCrider
      @MCrider  8 років тому

      LOL, thanks for insight! I would be so confused trying to get on that thing and ride.
      So you can be trying to get back to 1st gear and actually end up in neutral if you click too many times? Wow!

    • @thevegas737
      @thevegas737 8 років тому

      Kevin Morris Its strange ans the talk about the shifter... its a weird design. needles to say you dont put the tip of you foot underneath it. it always stays flat footed

    • @thevegas737
      @thevegas737 7 років тому

      ***** no, when the bike first came out it used a more Asian and European shifter. So basically instead of having your foot underneath the shifter and above the shifter your foot was flat on it. You used your heel to change hears and your toes. Originally it was all down. But I guess people began to get hurt which caused a recall and so kymco changed it now to all up and also got rid of the Europeans style shifter to a more American traditional shifter.

    thats so weird, when i looked at one at the dealership, the guy acted as if it was meant to be 3 down. had no idea that it was a mistake in manufacturing!

    • @MCrider
      @MCrider  8 років тому

      They may have meant to produce it that way but it is opposite of every other road motorcycle, so they are supposed to fix it.

    • @humanmaker1
      @humanmaker1 7 років тому +2

      Its not a mistake, here in asia most of the motorcycle transmission is in 1up 4down etc....

    Kymco is made in Taiwan not China. Taiwan has the highest number of motorbikes per capita. Good bikes. Just don't cost as much.

    I am very familiar with Kymco, being a long time scooter rider. I was actually considering a K-Pipe when I heard about the backwards transmission. No way would I buy a motorcycle with a backwards transmission when I have spent the past 50 years (since age 8) riding motorcycles that did not have backward transmissions, and I'm surprised that over 400 people bought them like that. I have ridden bikes with a right side shifter (Sportster, Bonneville) but the up/down pattern was the same. If they have actually fixed this problem, I might buy one after all.
