      No, but there is a channel that focuses on PM heavily. I’ll post a link to the channel at the end of this comment…six sigma is good but I would focus more on lean, Root Cause Analysis and Kaizen..I have a master Black Belt and speak from experience…you just need to know how to fix business problems and rarely do I see anyone using six sigma (actually never) if you see it on a job description, it’s because they want someone who knows how to fix a problem but the person writing the JD doesn’t know how to articulate what they want and feel that six sigma encapsulates everything-but it doesn’t! Six Sigma projects take 4-6 months to complete…businesses need faster response times! This isn’t tru for 100% of job postings with six sigma in the JD but I’d argue it’s about 98%. Hope this helps. I understand that you have provided this example for a better understanding and it very much clarified my doubt, but i have one small doubt in the example which you have provided. You have mentioned that for a process to be 6sigma, the avg/mean should be 6 sigma away from the nearest specification limit, so in this example , is 3 sigma approach enough to achieve the requirement?

    • @learnkaizen
      @learnkaizen  4 роки тому +1

  • @ewestermann
    @ewestermann Рік тому +1

    Hi, I am new to the concept of Six Sigma and want to make sure I am coming to the correct conclusion. In this example, we are saying that the mean temperature of the food that is actually being delivered is 133.28 degrees. However, the mean of the LSL (130 degrees) and USL (135 degrees) is the optimal temperature at 132.5 degrees. In order to have 6 Sigma in this example, the food preparation process needs to change so that the the mean of what is actually being delivered is lower and closer to the optimal temperature of 132.5 degrees. Am I even close to being on track here?

    • @learnkaizen
      @learnkaizen  Рік тому +1

      Almost…we can’t calculate the actual mean that gives us six sigma until a change is made to the process and new data is taken.the reason for this is because your sigma level will change and so will the mean. If you go back and look at the video at time stamp: 9.06, and count the total sigmas, you get 10 sigmas so there’s no way the current process could operate at 6 sigma (otherwise, we’d at least count 12 sigmas…6 on each side of the mean)…so, a change must be made so the variation of the temperatures shrink…creating a smaller standard deviation..:and allowing room for more sigmas between the mean and specification limits.

    Hello Chad, thank you for this clearly explained video.
    It's one the best out there! However, for this particular example, is it correct to say they are operating at 3 Sigmas (within USL) plus 6 Sigmas, which is sum up at 9 Sigmas (within LSL)?
    Sorry if this is a 'dumb' question...😮
    Thank you in advance!

    • @learnkaizen
      @learnkaizen  5 місяців тому +2

      Not a dumb question at all. We would not sum up the sigmas because if we did, it would sound as if we’re operating at 9 sigmas which would be incredible! So the data set must be six sigmas from both the USL and LSL. Hope this helps.

    • @BNT05
      @BNT05 5 місяців тому +1

      @learnkaizen Thank you for coming back, Chad.
      So, in a 'layman language', what would you put about this process with 3 Sigmas on the right of the mean and 6 Sigmas on the left of the mean, and they are all within USL and LSL respectively, which is the VoC (i.e., conformity is guaranteed)?!
      Chad, for curiosity, what sort of Sigmas are they operating in here? Should we say 3 Sigmas?
      Please assist again here, and it would be very much appreciated as always 🙏

      I used data in the example. If you’re looking for raw data from a real world example, no - I can’t provide that kind of data. However, you can use whatever raw data you have…then follow the same process as indicated in the video.

    • @beejkumar5824

      I new in my heart, or I should say my instinct told me that you would not be able to provide requested data because perhaps it does not exist. Thus I am not surprised to receive the answer, I predicted.

    • @learnkaizen
      @learnkaizen  2 роки тому +1

      Data exist everywhere. Im not following your request//prediction. For ethical reasons, I don’t typically share data from companies I’ve worked with. As for actual raw data, help me understand what you’re looking for…do you want the temperature data points in the example? I’d encourage you to go and find data, stratify it and apply the formula in the video. The learning points are: how to use the formula and to define six sigma. Not to provide raw data…

    • @learnkaizen
      @learnkaizen  2 роки тому +1

      So, is there a reason you seem upset about the data? I’d like to clarify if possible - I just don’t understand your logic. Do you mind clarifying?

    hello, I'm a student of industrial engineering. I am working on a machine utilization/productivity improvement project. I want to calculate the six-sigma level for the machine's utilization. Due to the improper flow of the raw material, the machine is required to shut off. If the current utilization is 25% and looking forward to increasing it to 95%. how can I calculate the six-sigma level for the machine's current utilization rate and after improvement?

    • @learnkaizen
      @learnkaizen  Рік тому +2

      If I understand your statement: Your problem is that steady flow of raw material is insufficient causing 75% utilization loss of equipment. Current State = 25%, Target = 95%.
      You have everything you need to solve the problem. Why do you want use six sigma? Utilization is the correct measurement to determine success after improvement. (OEE could also be used but brings in other variables like Quality and Performance based on CT, so not really necessary in your case)...
      I would not use Six Sigma for what you're trying to use it for...if someone is asking you to do this, a boss or professor, I'm sure you can force the formula but it's absolutely unnecessary and should never be done in my opinion. After 20+ years in various industries (Automotive, Aerospace, Life Science, Biotech), I've never seen Six Sigma used for Machine utilization...because we use utilization and OEE.

      @@learnkaizen Thank you for your response. My project flow is: Define the problem, Measure the necessary data, Analyse the measured data (utilization rate, efficiency, and productivity), Improve the situation, and control (if required). This flow is almost similar to the Six Sigma DMAIC. So that's why it is asked to calculate the current six sigma level.

    • @learnkaizen
      @learnkaizen  Рік тому +1

      Ahh. Okay…I see where this may be confusing. That’s why I have a love/hate relationship with six sigma…DMAIC is a great methodology for systematically solving problems…but think of it as a tool that accompanies six sigma…So technically, Six Sigma and DMAIC are separate tools…six sigma is about reducing variation to improve yield rate…DMAIC is like any other problem solid tool..PDCA, 8D, 7-Step, etc…does this help? If not, let me know.

    • @dixit-rohit
      @dixit-rohit Рік тому +1

      @@learnkaizen again thank you.
      So it is necessary to calculate the current six sigma level in this situation?
      Is it okay if I write the thesis title as "Application of Six sigma DMAIC for productivity improvement" without calculating the sigma level?

    • @learnkaizen
      @learnkaizen  Рік тому +2

      I wouldn’t include six sigma in the title because technically you’re not using six sigma…an interesting research would be to utilize six sigma to understand the variation/fluctuation in raw material…that’s the underlying issue causing insufficient machine utilization. Even then, it’s a stretch but you could get the necessary numbers to complete the six sigma formula…this is where I’d focus my energy…if you use DMAIC, during the M(easure) phase, you’d measure the current state utilization…under analysis, you’d evaluate why..which leads to the variation in raw material delivery…then use six sigma to set controls on the material delivery with signals that escalate if delivery variation reaches exceeds parameters. This is just off the top of my head. You have way more knowledge on what you’re trying to accomplish. I don’t want to take you off course..these are just suggestions based on the limited information I have. Hope it helps and doesn’t confuse you…

    My frustration comes form the squaring done at 7:35 in the video and maybe you can help me. We are forced to use a very basic calculator for the certification test. When you multiply .83*.83 you don't get .682 The calculator gives us .6889 What am I doing wrong? I am fixing to go insane here trying to figure that one issue out.
