Originally known as Kewhira, the town of Kohima was founded in 1878 when the British Empire established its headquarters of the then Naga Hills. It officially became the capital after the state of Nagaland was inaugurated in 1963.
Kohima district is the land of the Angami Naga and Rengma Naga tribe. It is situated in the foothills of Japfu range located south of Kohima District and has an average elevation of 1,261 metres (4137 feet).

Nagaland is equally compatible to our highland Cordellera region in northern philippines we also have the highland city of baguio coolest temp. in southeast asia. You are called nagas we as igorots sharing similarities on culture etc.,,,, Ancestors once noted head hunters But latter converts of christianity by friendly colonizers in the 19th century, ours is of 6 provinces and two cities as a distinct administrative district, we are composed of at least 9 ethnic tribes who usually play gongs on feastivities. Here in the philippines I am wishing someday I would visit Nagaland district where I kept in mind as the biblical, historical far away relatives. 😁🏇🏇🏇
