That's how all that divine belief stuff works - it makes no sense, and it proves nothing, but it makes people feel secure in their ways. I've seen people do ALLLL kinds of crazy stuff thinking that it was part of god's plan. It's kinda like reading your horoscope - it's generic enough to fit whatever you need it to fit to perpetuate what you want to perpetuate for your own purposes, and the people who really believe in it don't realize they're doing that.
