For those who are criticizing this guy, he wasn't discussing the legality of both drugs, he was just telling you how they're metabolized. Besides, you already know that modafinil needs a prescription.

I use Adrafinil and it works. 3 to 1 ratio 600mg of Adrafinil (Equal to 100mg Modafinil )in am on empty stomach for first time(zero tolerance) kept me awake for 20 hours and the next day sucked. I did try 450mg daily for 10 days straight and it was a bad idea. I believe it effected my rem sleep and couldn’t think straight by day 10. Best to use as most literature says to, 2-3 times a week max and take time off. Not a daily nootropic for clear thought but is still effective at keeping you awake, just not mentally sharp.

Your characterization of Adrafinil as “pointless” rubbed some people the wrong way since Adrafinil is cheaper than Modafinil and available OTC. Other than that this was an excellent presentation, and thanks for the heads up on potential liver toxicity with Adrafinil!

Great video.Thank you.As a recovering alcoholic who has been on the wagon for almost 5 years next month, and who was an active alcoholic for only 8 years, but especially hit it hard the last 4 ,and who drank alcohol like an Olympic runner drinks water,i am not keen on anything that could potentially be pernicious or harmful to my liver.I already did enough damage to this vital organ.I am surprised (by the grace of GOD)that i even have one lol. That said, though it is tougher to get in the states because you need a prescription for it,unlike adrafinil which is easy to get and cheaper,i would put my money and take my chances with the more expensive and more difficult to attain modafinil.CASE CLOSED!!!!

@@ThatOneScienceGuy Why do you say it is useless? If Modafinil isn't useless than Adrafinil isn't useless either since as everyone in this comment section knows, adrafinil partially breaks down into Modafinil. It's less useful per unit of mass, but isn't useless.

  • @videoinformer

The problem with Modafinil is that its is a Schedule IV controlled substance, and therefore cannot be purchased without a prescription. I've found Adrafinil to be one of the few neurotropics that is indeed effective to a clearly discernable degree -- worth buying. I'd purchase Modafinil only if it were legal to do so. Regarding liver enzymes, I have a healthy liver, but take N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (a liver protector, as it is converted to glutathione), and wonder if it offers protection from whatever metabolite of Adrafinil might be responsible for elevated liver enzymes. In addition to Adrafinil, I've found amazing results from caffeine and aspirin in combination (please google research on this) and, just recently, caffeine and L-Theanine (again, google for research).

    • @sonsofapollo4652

How about the fact that you can legally take adrafinil without a prescription but if you don't have a prescription for modafinil and you get caught with modafinil it is a felony charge of drug possession? Is that not a benefit of adrafinil over modafinil? A legal benefit.

    • @ThatOneScienceGuy

  • @GPhi46

First I have not used either drug. I am just doing some research before I try Adrafinil. Now if Adrafinil cause elevated liver enzymes then Modafinil must do the same. If not then the elevated liver enzymes must be secondary to the increased amount of Modafinil acid that is produced since this is the only difference I see. Both drugs metabolize to Modafinil acid per your discussion. The difference is if you take Adrafinil there 2 points where the pathway goes to Modafinil acid and 1 with Modafinil. So I don't see why one drug would increase liver function test not the other unless it is caused by the Modafinil acid. If that is the case then still both should cause elevated liver test. You would just need higher dose of Modafinil to get the same side effects. Maybe some else is missing with the Adrafinil pathway. I hope that makes sense. Use both sparingly.

Okay, I see your point and I do agree with you completely; Adrafinil is a less effective version of Modafinil. Although while it may be a prodrug and most of it is wasted being converted into Modafinil in the liver, it is legal and is an over the counter substance while as Modafinil, you need a prescription. So that being said, for someone unable to obtain Modafinil, do you think that Adrafinil would be somewhat of a viable substitute? I'd appreicate and would very much respect a response if you could, thanks. great vid btw, you really know what your talking about unlike most other videos i've come across.

Modafinil might be weaker than Adderall, but there's more downsides & side effects with the latter drug....
It seems like Modafinil gives you smoother & cleaner energy, while some people get more of a rush from Adderall. Both could give a person sleep problems, but continued Adderall use could result in nervousness, vomiting, weight loss, decreased sex drive, and heart palpations, to name a few....
Also, there's the fact that Modafinil is more legal than Adderall. Some countries require a prescription in order for Modafinil to be used legally.
Adderall, on the other hand, is banned from most sports and you can even get arrested for using it.
People are free to use either one, but I'm just giving out my take on it.
