You can put a little bit of grease on the inside of the keeper to stick them to the end of the valve during reassembly. works wonders!

I keep needing grease for miscellaneous things, yet, I have yet to go buy some 😂😂😂

So when you tapped out retainers with socket and hammer did you stuff something in the combustion chamber to keep valves closed tightly? Usually valves are bit binded to locks at first.
If not, that is a great way to slightly bend valves and usually they hold vacuum fine after that making good compression for a while . Then it drops valve cause of slighty bend valve straightening every time it touches seat also other issues might arise. Leaking and burning valve, ovaling of valve stem, etc.
You probably already knew all of this, just wanted to point this out because video didn´t.

Ah mannn, I didn’t think to place something underneath the valves when breaking loose the valve keepers. The only thing I had supporting the valves was a layer of cardboard but I did aid it a bit by soaking the valve keepers with pb blaster the night before and again before breaking them loose

@@Rawrkee might be just fine, but this is something to consider in future. Similar cases happens a lot with timing belt failures in engines which have valves straight (diesels)so they dont visibly bent that much. They usually bust some rockers and by replacing them and timing kit engine runs just fine but not for long.

Just did all this work to my z6.. i used the same method with the socket but unfortunately I also had to put them back with a wrench. I held the spring down while the wife set the retainers.. my hand did not appreciate that 😂..
But like everyone else already said i would have cleaned out the build up on all the parts.. Lude is coming along great. I'm about to do the 1st start of my ej1 after a year of work to the engine...
