Harley 2022 Street Glide CVO KST Punisher Bars Install - Harder than you think?

- This 2022 Harley Davidson Street Glide CVO doesn't need much, but upgrading the bars is a top priority. The stock bars just won't do so I took on this set of KST bars and the install drove me nuts!
Another video in the new upgrade series and this one took me a lot longer than expected. So if you're thinking about tackling this project, you might want to watch this first.
Great vid, I fell that pain indeed LOL. I installed 13” Arlen Ness Modulars last month myself. First time doing bars. Tons of mistakes lol. Even put them on backwards. New stainless lines, chrome reservoirs, everything new, lengthened the wiring myself. Timely and tedious, but wow they look beautiful. Can’t wait to try them out, after the other 4 boxes of accessories make it in this week hopefully. Going full chrome Empire package, chrome forks, stage 2 Rockford with amp. April will be busy in my cave!
Thank you for reinforcing my joy when I installed my Mustang Super Touring seat and realized I loved my riding position with the stock bars! Phew! P.s. Welcome to what's it's like for the rest of us. :)
My super touring is sitting on a shelf. I just hate the look of it but it is very comfortable lol

Ron - looked like there was no shortages of obstacles to overcome to get the new Bars installed on your beautiful 2022 CVO SG. All part of the learning curve. I'm convinced now, order bars with prewired option. Thanks for making the video. Tom M., '21RGS & '22FXLRS
Tom go with the 14” KST Spearheads for your RG. Those are easy to install. They are 3 separate pieces.
thanks very much for your vid, i have just buy a cvo street glide 2017 and it will be very helpfull...i did it in my fat and before removing the cables i knotted a guide to them that made it easier to put the cables back in..thanks again and good job it look awesome

Hey Ron, I’ve this vid a few times and I have 2 questions. First, the rubber sleeve on the clutch cable that hods it to the factory bars, what did you do with that? Did you cut it off? Second. The clutch cable down under the fairing I don’t see how that comes out of its holder to get more slack. Any tips? I have a 21 SGS that I’m putting 12” KST patriot bars on. Hey Larry thanks for watching! Yeah I cut the sleeve to get more room and there is a red tab that you need to get to in order to get more slack on the clutch cable. You pull up the black tube around it to get access then push in from the backside of the red tab and it pops up giving u the slack you need then push the tab back in when done.
Thanks for the quick reply. So you didn’t remove the cable from the little clip that holds it up by the goose neck? I’ll take a look at your advice. Thanks for the info. Glad you got a Street Glide. I didn’t have as much trouble running the wires as you thought. I Vaseline them and they slide right through. Again thanks for the vids.
Ron, I’m new to the channel. Just a quick question. How come you went from a SG to the RG? Aside from the CVO options. Beautiful bikes!
I wanted the steel blue CVO and something different. The street glide handles much better around town if you ask me. On the highways, the road glide is definitely better with the fairing and lowers. Basically I wanted to switch it up. 😆
Stock bars suck . I just picked up a 21 CVO . Put on 12 twin peaks . I had them on a previous Street glide and loved them . Now , Too high for my aging arms . Went with the same bars @10 . Perfect for me . Bit of a pain changing them twice .
Ron....so that sheathing you used....when I do bars, I put that on ALL the wire, all the way up to the controls, to where ALL of it is encased in that sheathing....and it will all go right through the bar as easy as your first wire.... :D Instead of doing it one set of wires at a time, do them all at once...makes it super easy.... For me, I have a 2015 SG, and we have done probably a dozen SG's...then last year I got my Road Glide and couldnt remotely believe how EASY it was on an RG (except for wiring the bars...LOL). Also, if you have a compressor, just blow air through the bars and it will shoot the wire from top to bottom in seconds...super simple....

@@RealRonTV LOLZ....I am going to do a friends SG here in a few weeks...maybe I will film how I do the wiring....the first ones I did just like you, then I found sheathing, and I took it a bit further than most and put it all the way up all the wiring so its literally all encased and it made it is simple. Granted the SG fairing is still an A1 pain in the ass... :D

Thanks man..idk bro after watching this maybe i should just stick to having a shop put them on for me. it you went with a 14 would you still have to re route your mirrors?
If you go with the 14 KST spearheads it’s a much easier install and just might clear the mirrors.

I feel the pain Ron...lol I installed a set of 12-in meat hooks on my 15 Ultra Limited after and when I finally got it back together and running the wires through the inside come to find out I cut my heated grip wire and was shorting out, I didn't want to go through the crap again so I took it in and had HD put the new heated grips on and rerun the wiring. But that is a beautiful bike Ron! I just got the Road Glide CVO blue steel fell in love with that the first time I seen it. 40 plus years I've been riding never owned anything but black and chrome, although blue is my favorite color guess I get the best of both worlds looks black alot of times and blue in the daylight. I just figured the older Im getting maybe it's time to change it up a little LOL I'm looking to put on some 14s possibly going with the same bars you got but don't think I'm going to go through putting them on I may just let them do it LOL but anyway I enjoy your videos as always, we appreciate it! and thank you for your service sir. Hey David! If you want 14’s go with the KST Spearheads. Much easier to put on because they are 3 separate pieces. 😀

I got 2021 ultra limited cvo and I got fat baggers 12” handlebar, did you extend your brake cable and wiring.
I have the clutch cable extension and the wiring but not the brake cable.
I didn’t have to extend the cables. Just the wiring extensions.

Guess this is why the Harley dealer charges 8 hours labor for the install. Always heard it's a pain and the heated grips make it worse. Nice new ride Ron enjoy.
Anyone that has experience in these can do it in much less than 8 hours. It took me that long because I never had to deal with de-pinning before and had to teach myself a way to get the wires through.

Save your self the pain and watch the owner's "BRET" of KST, UA-cam video on the install of a street glide. He uses air to blow a string through the bars. It really works. From where you live you could ride up to Daytona and purchase the bars from KST and they will install in less than a hour. Bike Week, Biketoberfest they are setup beside J&P . BRET is great at the install and depinning is not necessary. I have done a set on my 2020, and am about to finish up my 2022 . Both street glides. Sorry you had a difficult time with.

Definitely not the brake. The clutch is a little snug but you definitely need to move it over in the fairing first.
The apple air tag thing is F’N genius!!!! What does that cost you? And do you have to pay a monthly fee to have it active?
It’s like $20 and it’s free with your iPhone.

Are your clutch and brake line have enough slack when have the bike turned left and right ?
Yeah I had to adjust it slightly to get more slack but no issues at all
So you mentioned wire extension, clutch and break cables reached?

I don’t mind trying to do things but wiring can’t stand it and know it don’t have nothing to do with this it’s all but plumbing is another one kinda like Costanza on episode on Seinfeld can’t stanzed it and for the mirrors myself like them mounted on the bars did the county give u crap over the ticket just wondering LOL not funny but it is the Troopers are different animals

Use any soap you like , dry it then use windex on the chrome and lemon pledge on the bike seat fender windshield, plastic.

I am in the same boat. I did bars on my 21 street glide special. Plus I added heated grips since I live up north. I will NEVER do bars on ay bike again. I will gladly pay someone to do it.

How does the apple car play work on this bike
It’s ridiculous. The only way to get it to work is by using the piece of shit sena that headset that came with the bike and I don’t wear a full face helmet if I wear one at all so in other words… I don’t have car play.
@@RealRonTV what about these plugs that the guys are buying off eBay and Amazon? It’s a plug with a jumper wire on it

@@RealRonTV ok so from what I found is that the blue tooth head set has to be paired to the bike and on and plug in your iPhone to the bike and apple car play should work ! Try that and let me know .
@@garyhansel577 I know that but the only way around that since I don’t put that shitty unit on my helmet is to keep it in the tiny glove box and that’s a pain in the ass and not worth the trouble.
