The six was noticeable more clear with the kinda rock music. Ive used a flip five for a few years in a welding shop. Im very impressed 120F+ down to -0. Dropped constantly weld spatters landing on it always covered in steel dust.....not a single problem yet.
Mine got ran over by a car and I work in landscaping and it sits in the hot truck dash board all day, not going to lie that car running it over bent the left side bass it’s never sounded the same since but it’s still working. Flip 6 I’m coming for you and when I get you I will put you through the same torture count on it!
Got a flip 5 on sale, it was about 30$ cheaper than the flip 6. I appreciate saving money. I love the flip 5, but in my opinion the flip 6 looks better without the red jbl square.
flip 6 s better because it has a separate twitter it can keep the twits clear while bass is going hard. Wonderful JBL idea. Sony is not even close to this results unfortunately they are stuck using 2 speakers setup for the stereo effect that kept the bass low and create cavernous sound . Sony should learn more.
Some notes on the Flip 5, I've been using it about 2-years in a work setting where it and I move around a lot. It definitely has a tendency to roll, which can be very problematic. I find that the battery life per use is logically dependent on the volume level that it is used at. At full volume, I generally get no more than 4-hours usage out of the battery. By modulating the volume, the battery will last longer. I work in a very large freezer and in there, one can determine the limits of Bluetooth range, and this can be problematic as well, although I cannot determine if the fault lays in the Flip 5, my phone, or just Bluetooth itself. Given everything that I know about the Flip 5, I would purchase another JBL product such as the Flip 6 if I needed a replacement. In all, I have been very happy with it and it sure beats the pants off of earbuds.
The 6 is a lot louder. I have both. I've been using the five for years, but when I needed a second speaker for a different application I checked the prices on just replacing the five or going with the next model. A year after the six was introduced, the price for the five is down to $69. The price for the six is only $89. For $20, why not do the upgrade? So now I have the six sitting on the same desk running off the same device as the five did for all those years. There is a noticeable difference. I am no music expert, so I won't give you any opinion on sound quality, although both sound great to me. But in terms of volume, the six goes a lot louder than the five did.
Agggh!! I got the Flip 5 before watching this and I’m aggravated the 6 highs come through clearer than 5 but alas bass is more important to me so sticking w the 5. This review was very helpful.
Just got the flip 6 having the flip 5 already. I will say the sound on the flip 6 is better at highs volumes compared to the 5. However, I love the bass of my flip 5 so I'm returning the 6 to buy another 5, as I didn't enjoy the bass of it even connected together by partyboost 😢
I'm listening to this video Review from my Flip 6. The Flip 6 sounds noticeably clearer and louder than the Flip 5. I just bought the Flip 6 last week. I'm enjoying it🤩! JBL, as a whole, is QUALITY👌🏽! No matter what line of JBL Bluetooth Speaker (Flip, Charge, or Extreme), you are sure to get quality sound!
I just purchased the JBL 6 to replace my lost OG JBL. I liked your review! I will say although certain parts of each song sound the same but in several sound bites the Flip 6 sounds more crisp.
personally I think partyboost should have a stereo option, where one can be left and right for the different channels. Would be sick to see that implemented
FLIP 6 has a nicer sound signature and slightly deeper bass than the FLIP 5. They are selling on Markeplace right now for about the same price, but after some research I have decided I will go with the FLIP 6. $100 CAD new in box. Cool review. Thanks! 👍👍
I'm currently debating on whether to get the Flip 5 or Flip 6. Right now, I can get a brand new Flip 5 on Ebay for $75, or I can get a Flip 6 for its retail price of $110. I'm leaning towards getting the Flip 6, but idk, the prospect of saving $35 by getting the Flip 5 is very tempting.
Thank you so much for the review! Does the rubber kickstand on the flip 6 stop it from moving around at high volume? On my flip 5 when I play it loud it starts to slowly spin around on the table
Definitely sounds like the flip 6 has more breathing room and it's interpretation of that guitar in the second song sample is very satisfying. I think the bass is the same degree of aggression as the flip 5 but the clearer sound interpretation makes it less costly for the rest of the mix. My only concern is the midrange being washed out sounding but I guess it's good from what I can tell :D I should've given this one a try instead of getting the Anker speaker (that one sounds pretty balanced but can be unnecessarily strong right around 4Khz which is good for some guitar and cymbal sounds but not the rest of the treble range)
Must say to me the Flip 6 sounds better. What gets me is that I've seen the 5 selling for more than the six. I think because both look, and sound similar people must not be too concerned with what model is what. Getting the 6 tomorrow.
I think the flip 5 is exactly what I need... not loud or bass like flip 6 but u get the exact portable feel u need... if u have jbl flip 5 there no reason to upgrade..

The 5 sounds very mid heavy and closed off. The 6 sounds more wide and expressive of the whole sound map and it is much more crisp. The new Bluetooth rating definitely has something to do with that so it's more so that you're paying for the new rating there than crazy upgraded drivers
Just the tweeter difference..... Nothing else. Flip 6 has 10w twitter which actually sounds sharp but low bass. Flip 5 has muffled sound and punchy bass .

I can't hear sounds above 4k Hz (trebles) and I like bass. Even so, through my tablet's speakers, I could notice the flip 6 has clearer and louder highs. On the video, the flip 5's richer low and mid bass appeal more to my taste than the flip 6. I have a flip 5 and on bass heavy songs, played at high volume, the sound becomes distorted. I don't have a flip 6 to compare to, but a dedicated tweeter should theoretically help with sound sensitivity, separation and wider hz range, which is probably why I could pick up the trebles better on the 6 in this video. That said, on this video, I felt the 5 had a deeper, warmer sound on mids and lows, which I liked better. Like others say, the 5 is a beast for its single drive, size and price. Will update this comment, if I ever get me a Flip6! 😄

Notice the 5 moved occasionally when playing? That is due to that ridge you didn't like on the 6, that also keeps it from rolling.
