2:34 in reality they didn’t remove it, they took assassins creed, added a skin and took their other exclusive missions (like Valhalla and Mirage) and reworked and tweaked it to fit the game…
Run by a CEO who is either unable perform his duties correctly, as he should have known about the allegations of sexual harassment in his company, and as such, should be fired OR he knew what was going on and intentionally chose not to take any actions, in which case he should be fired. Until Yves Guillemot leave Ubisoft, Ubisoft will not get a penny out of me. And, honestly, I don't think I've missed out on much by ignoring Ubisoft titles for the last 2+ years.
Thank you for covering this, Sid. Ubisoft has no right or reason to price their game like this. Especially after the abysmal failure of Skull and Bones.
1:58 Thank the Void Dragon I'm not the only one who sees that. I was saying the same thing at the release of Starfailed, and everyone kept saying I was wrong. And I don't plan on buying ANYTHING from Ubisoft. They have gone far out of their way to make enemies out of the consumer. And that is something I personally, will not abide.
To state it clearly: You the gamers can as customers just not buy those games longer than the corporations can remain solvent 🙂 In short: YOU have the power!
Given how AAA has been working overtime to make GaaS, and make all their games digital-only "License to Play" instead of "License to Own", subscription services are becoming far more cost effective for all the wrong reasons.
I still remember vividly, something like 10-15 years ago, when the first "day-1 DLC's" started appearing, how it caused quite a controversy, especially when it was attached to full-priced triple-A games: People felt that they weren't getting all the content even though they were paying full price, and that they would need to pay even more to get the entire game rather than just part of it. Nowadays "day-1 DLC" has become pretty much the norm, and nobody bats an eye at it anymore. Which is, of course, precisely what the big game studios wanted. To normalize the practice. And they were quite successful.
I'm gonna point out something not-so-obvious: This kind of shady practice can only be pulled off in titles aimed at mainstream demographics. Publishers expect to get away with it. Pull this kind of shit in niche genres? Expect to get sunk. You don't hear a lot of these controversy stories from nicher games. Publishers still try to tempt fate with nicher genres, for sure, but they learn the lesson quick.
The game industry making it easier and easier to just skip games. “Wow, a base price of $70 AND I get to pay 10 extra dollars for a character skin in a single player game?!” I’ll just stick to something like rim world or starship troopers extermination. 🎩 🐍 no step on snek!🇺🇸🇭🇰
Im not comfortable with not owning the game if i buy it, so I won't buy it. So ubisoft will just have to get comfortable with me or others not buying it
Let's also never forget that Ubisoft is "the" sex abuse company and still no-one has been held accountable for that. But yeah, I really don't see the appeal of any of their games. It's all the same now anyway. Large open worlds with copy pasted busy work to give the illusion of content. I honestly wouldn't even pick up anything of theirs on a deep discount, it's just not enjoyable to me.
Ubisoft has been on my "do not buy" list from day one. For me, this is a non issue because I've never bought any of their products and never will. Bohemia and Blizzard are the other companies on that list. EA....well as bad as EA is, they don't force performance killing rootkit DRM onto my PC like Ubisoft. EA doesn't force me to agree to their terms of service and instantly lock me out of my account if I don't agree, while continuing to bill me, without access to my account to cancel my services like Blizzard. EA doesn't force me to use an anti cheat so bad that games being protected by it are the most hacked games in the world. EA also doesn't try to force me to shut down my antivirus so that the only thing protecting me from these hackers is the most ineffective anti cheat software available. So yeah...EA, not the worst gaming company in the world these days. They're certainly far from saints, but the industry is leap frogging them one company at a time.
Pre-ordering a game you always get what you deserve There is a finnish saying "Älä osta sikaa säkissä" Gladly this one survives a direct translation "Don't buy a pig in a bag" You should check whats in the bag first
The milking of well known franchises needs to stop. Period. I'm tired of these gaming companies doing this because its meant to be for whales to be suckered into its "bonuses" and brag like monkeys for a meaningless trophy.
In the UK, a company is legally responsible for pausing or cancelling a persons subscription after 6 months of inactivity. Maybe other countries need to bring about similar laws so that "forgotten subscriptions" are no longer a reliable source of income.
And let's not forget that they took an attractive young woman to model for the main character and proceeded to make her digital equivalent as unattractive as they could. They would well deserve it if she sues them for attaching her name to this project. Star Wars games were hit or miss before Disney bought the IP, now they've just gone and fallen into a bottomless pit of bantha droppings.
Remember last year amidst all the buyouts Ubisoft made a statement saying they where interested in being bought but nobody did. It shows how undesirable they are at this point... like blockbuster.
There was a point in time when I was mildly interested in this game, not exactly looking forward to it but willing to give it a chance (pending critical reception and discounts). It's impressive how this buildup to launch has managed to sour people's perception of the game. The pricing structure, the racist community manager, the disservice done to the protagonist's appearance.
This is one game I certainly won't be paying for... I'll likely end up playing it... But won't be paying for it... Especially since Ubisoft doesn't think we should own our games, so I don't believe we should pay for them when we "obtain" them...
I no longer buy AAA games from these major companies unless it's minimum 50% off. I have no issues waiting a couple of years or some holiday special to buy a game at half price. And like your British friend stated, he's absolutely correct that buying a game on launch or early access is definitely in the worst state it will ever be. Cyberpunk 2077 is a true testament to that statement. Lesson learned. :)
The last AAA game I bought close to launch was BG3. And before that it was MH: World 6 years ago. Because both were actually worth the 60 euro price tag. Fuck AAA company business practices, seriously...
Ubisoft are a zombie company at this point, nothing new but they're getting worse and worse for chasing trends instead of setting them, rehashing old IP for an inferior sequel or reboot, going full Bobby Kottick on micro transactions in single player games and all the bs, overpriced, purposely confusing multiple editions! The sooner they go under the better, they haven't released anything worthwhile in at least a decade.
I stopped getting pre-orders years ago cause so many of them come out half-baked. Last game I pre-ordered (albeit prior to BG3 was several years before) but BG3 I made an exception cause I already knew the company from Divinity Original Sin series and met some of them in-person at PAX East and had a grand time talking about our party compositions in DOS2.
As much as people complain about this games pricing, it will really have minimal impact on sales as most people just don't get enraged by these issues...case in point on PS5 in Australia the most expensive version of Star Wars Outlaws at AU$199 was number two on pre-order sales, the gold edition at $169 at number 7 and the standard edition at $109 at number 10....there is a fool born every day
Disney + Ubisoft is a combination I don't want to fund. At all. Even if the game is good. If consumers keep funding s***** practices then the practices will continue, even worsen. In a way, the game being successful is the worst thing that could happen because it will effectively ratify the godawful pricing, 'early access' and 'salami slicing' of content and charging you for it. Last purchase I paid full price for was Helldivers 2, £35 on Steam. If Ubisoft start showing me that kind of deal then they'll have my attention.
(old man voice) In my day $130 got me the Halo 3 Collector's Edition with Master Chief's helmet that housed the game and a bonus disc with behind the scenes videos! And I still have it! 😂
I wonder if the crazy price that Ubisoft is asking for SW Outlaws is related to that rumor of EA cancelling future SW games because Disney was asking too much for the IP.
Just remember this fact before buying ANYTHING including this from UBIsoft and like minded cpmpanies. They consider every digital transaction as this. You're paying real world currency for a commercially sold digital product that you do not and WILL NOT ever own according to their EULA that you digitally acnowledge and agree to the second you hit that submit payment information button and the transaction is processed.
Glad that I have no plans for getting the game in the first place, much less a preorder. They can ride that downward spiral to brokeville without getting a cent from me.
I always wait for the GotY editions, and only when it is on sale for less then a tenner. Win for me even if I have to wait several years. I'm not fussed.
How did they handle their pricing? Well, it is a single player game. So luckily for me, there is a vast sea to sale with much cheaper, better, freer games to play than their overpriced garbage.
Because people buy Assassin's Creed and Far Cry like people buy FIFA and Madden games. Too many gamers just buy the yearly release from familiar franchises, no matter how much they suck.
Why would anyone buy an Ubisoft game at launch? Their games always go on deep discount within a few months. Of all the major publishers, Ubisoft is always the quickest to discount their games. And they are notorious for releasing the buggiest, most broken games.
well, probably mimicking a lot of other comments: Ubisoft has not proven that they deserve my money for a long time so I'm in the "wait for a deep deep sale" camp. For those who are subscribing to Uplay: you can make a reminder in your calendar to cancel it in a month.
In other words, this scummy and greedy company isn't charging 60 or even 70 dollars for their "full" game anymore. They actually dare to charge 110 dollars for it. And we all know they dare because there will be plenty of idiots that will buy it.
Not if skull and bones going on sale in 2 weeks after it launched is any indication nobody buys ubi games anymore thats why they gouge the ones that still do
Something people don't factor in with the bs behind the 3 day "Early access". They are using the early access as a means to draw out more money for people afraid of spoilers. "I have to avoid spoilers for 3 days if I pay less, I'll avoid the stress and buy the $110 version".
Far cry 3 was the last time I've ever trusted ubisoft. This doesn't surprise me at all, and its pricing editions scheme is pretty much why I avoided their games for a long time now.
I haven't spent more than £10-£15 on a game in years. I'm quite content to wait for sales and bundles and I have literally hundreds of games in my backlog to keep me busy.
remember folks. ubisoft has shown that they will kill their activation servers for older games. and this game requires and online connection just to install the game even with the disk version. so goodluck installing it 10 years from now.
Ubisoft releases the gaming equivalent to fast food. It looks pretty, it tastes good, but it has little to none nutritional value, most likely made with the sole purpose of being as addictive as legally possible.
We should also assume that the Season Pass won't even include all of the DLC. Valhalla had 3 dlc and only the first two were included in its season pass.
People need to simply stop giving these people money. There are MORE than enough existing video games you can buy for 5 to 10 dollars that you can play from now till the day you die without ever having to buy another AAA current release.
The premium bundles are only value, as you stated, if pretty muuch only in the included DLCs. BUT, you end up paying upfront for that content in a game you don't even know if you will like enough to go ahead and purchase DLC for it. That's my logic for never buying premium game packages, unless I get it long after release at a big discount.
I don’t think I’ve spent more than $10 on a Ubisoft game, and that was years ago at this point. Everything they’ve made since SC: Blacklist and R6: Siege has been forgettable, and I can’t imagine this will be any better. Honestly though, selling people on avoiding spoilers is the biggest scummy practice here. At least nowadays one can watch streams during the “Early Access” period to see the game in action and unfiltered. It will unfortunately sell though and Ubisoft will keep doing it.
I love StarWars, but I hate Ubisoft even more. I will unfortunately be missing out on this game because of their business practices.. I will how ever give even more money to a company that values my time and fun... Time to DIVE!
Blizzard was left out of the dirty devs list. While they have their own EXTENSIVE list in the last 10 years alone, the next expansion has a "hero edition" solely for the 3 days early access they're trying to play off as for the people who are adulting and cant no life it. Its a shallow fomo cash grab. As for Ubisoft, the internet requirement is a red flag in itself especially after the whole 'you dont own what you pay for' bullshit from the CEO. Not to mention after they tried to remove content people paid for from Black Flag. It will likely be a long wait for it to be cracked, but at least you'd own a copy that runs better and have content you paid for removed.
Coupling this price gouging for a game that let's be honest nobody is hyped for with sentiment of having to be ok with not owning our games suddenly piracy seems like a good idea. All I'd have to do is wait for about a month or two after launch and I'd be able to get literally all of the deluxe edition content for free. Getting gold for free? Sign me up. And no I won't apologize for this stance.
I only buy at launch if I want to recognize a studio that has given me value over the years... I believe the last 2 AAA games I bought at launch were Elden Ring and Cyberpunk... so yea... not many studio's get my money at launch anymore. And none on the dirty dev list... in fact I never pay full price for titles from them (wait for bargain bin) because they don't deserve full price from me... they'll need to fleece the whales for that.
Just to have access to the full game (including the mission DLC) you need to fork out around 150$ Canadian... Why would I spend that much on what amount to be a shitty story with most likely shitty gameplay involving badly written and designed characters that just look ugly?
I'm just waiting for one game developer to price a new fantastic game for $50 or less because that will be an easy way to make a lot of money. Hey SidAlpha, You should do Duoyi Games and 505 games of what is happening with the console "Gunfire Reborn." The reason is that 505 Games stopped updating the game for the console.
2:25 Good on Sid for calling out how weird the term "season pass" is for a game like this. Publishers want us to think of the season pass as "all of the DLC", but they can always decide to declare a new "season" with its own "season pass". For example, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 has several "season passes".
I've purchased an impressive ZERO games from Ubisoft out of my current total of about 1,000 games. The last thing they need is monetary rewards for stale degeneration.
And lets not forget the last release Ubisoft did and the boring state it launched in. Skull and bones. A game they're asking the same price for. Its long since past time to just give Ubisoft the middle finger and walk away, leave them to rot and fold as a game company.
While the pricing for this game is gross, I think focus on the strange internet requirement for the physical console versions of the game also deserve attention. I find it idiotic (even by Ubisoft standards) that a single player game needs an internet connection in order to be installed on a console for a physical copy of said game. Its stuff like this is why I refer to Ubisoft as "French EA".
Imagine paying for 3 days earlier access in a time when games release in a state where companies should give you a discount if your play in the first month or whatever it takes to get their launch-shit together.
I uninstalled Uplay years ago and have no intention to reinstall it. For years now Ubisoft have treated their games as a challenge to try and squeeze ever monetisation method possible into it. This game will be no exception, it will launch, and performance will be terrible (as it will not doubt have Denuvo snuck into it). It will have separate microtransactions, a battle pass, a season pass, xp boosters (plus the artificial grind to justify them) and more. Thanks to Disney and the “AAA” games industry, my interest in Star Wars has never been lower.
I love the honesty and breakdown you bring to the reality of gaming and greedy corps. Thank you. I will be a loyal subscriber for as long as you remain honest and not fall into payoffs like I've seen from other good critics. Cheers my new favorite go to for game info guy.
Unfortunately it will may never crash until gamers really use their wallet to vote. As long as game companies gets profit, they will continue doing these kind of practices because many gamers just complaints but at the end of the day do not have conviction to put their money where their mouth is. So yeah, we will continue to get abused over and over again by these companies until we realy make a stand and vote with our wallets or we will just sit there and just enjoy being abused over and over again.
Ubisoft are sitting on some amazing IPs and yet they seem to be hellbent on running themselves into the ground ... I just don't get how a company can be that clueless.
Please do not use one month of their subscription to rent this game. Or any game. It’s a predatory practice that wants you to think you’re gaming the system because they know it will be more profitable. A lot of people will forget to cancel. A lot of people will have gotten far enough into it and think an extra month is still beating the system… and by then there’ll be DLC and they’d have sunk enough cost into it that it would be irresponsible to stop now. Right? Wait. It’ll be on sale before you know it. Pay less for a finished game.
im shocked he didn't bring up how ubisoft games are some of the most quickly discounted games ever. the ultimate version will be $30 this year for sure
Not to mention to investors the subscription service is likely way more lucrative than just one sale. Game sales almost always drop off over time, whereas you can only estimate the direction a subscription service will go, assuming there is a good number of people who want to buy a discounted version of the game, it'll make the optics on their subscription service look better even if most of them cancel within the next month.
shiiiiiit if you think that's bad for cut out day 1 content being sold back to you, wait until someone shows off all the outfits & skins you can buy. example assassin creed odyssey A pack can cost from 500 credits to 1.5k which you can buy 1.k for 10 bucks or 2.4k for 20 There are also the "time saver" mtx which that game was infamous for. which vary from 200-2.k credits. So i'm curios to see how bad the pricing is going to be for this latest game with their mtx, it's ubisoft i doubt they aren't going to have them.

But Sid Ubishaft aren't AAA according to Yves they're AAAA!
It's pronounced "AAAAHHHH!"
rip totalbiscuit
Ya I won't be buying this at all.
$130 and as Ubisoft say " You won't own it "
Ubisoft just keeps shooting themselves in the "foot". Eventually they will just go away because no one will be buying their bs.
Far cry 3 was the last time I've ever trusted ubisoft. This doesn't surprise me at all, and its pricing editions scheme is pretty much why I avoided their games for a long time now.
And the only reason why people are surprised and outraged by this games pricing is because it's on a huge franchise.
I haven't spent more than £10-£15 on a game in years. I'm quite content to wait for sales and bundles and I have literally hundreds of games in my backlog to keep me busy.
Waiting is a superpower.
remember folks. ubisoft has shown that they will kill their activation servers for older games.
and this game requires and online connection just to install the game even with the disk version. so goodluck installing it 10 years from now.
Ubisoft releases the gaming equivalent to fast food. It looks pretty, it tastes good, but it has little to none nutritional value, most likely made with the sole purpose of being as addictive as legally possible.
Don't forget the mild nausea that often occurs afterward.
I never thought a group of artists could make characters so fugly, it does reflect their souls if they even have one...
I would just wait until their is a very big discount on any and all Ubisoft games, that I might want to play
I'm thinking about getting Mario Rabbids 2, but I'm waiting for it to drop to $20.
So the Standard Edition is:
+ Base game
+ Pre-Order bonus (cosmetics, only when pre-ordering)
- 3 days penalty.
Cool.
correct
I love StarWars, but I hate Ubisoft even more. I will unfortunately be missing out on this game because of their business practices.. I will how ever give even more money to a company that values my time and fun... Time to DIVE!
Been boycotting Ubi for around 4 years now. They just continue to give me reasons to not buy their games
They just keep giving more reasons why pirating their games is not only acceptable, but the morally correct thing to do.
I am shocked and surprised that Ubisoft released a game with terrible, greedy monetization… Said no one in recent memory.
Buy the game, or pay their subscription. But wait, there's a third option, just pirate the game when it comes out!
That’s what I’ll do, never giving money to that shit company
For me if a game has the ubisoft logo is an instant skip
Never going to give ubisoft another dollar, that simple.
Is Beyond Good and Evil 2 still in development hell or did they can it?
Ubisoft having out of touch pricing? No. It can't be.
Nice to see you are back
I quit caring about release pricing because I wait for a discounted price I am willing to pay anyways.
Ubisoft hates gamers
The last thing they need is monetary rewards for stale degeneration.
i always do the subscription thing with ubisoft, cancel it right after the payment and they only get 18$
I truly don't get why anyone would buy these editions. Am actually baffled by modern gamers. Want change, but don't vote with their wallet
It's just to get money from people afraid of the story being spoiled.
I like how it's 3 days because they likely didn't want to copy blizzard's 4 days, but they couldn't justify making it 5 days.
It's ok, they don't want us to own any Ubisoft games, so you know what that means.
I want to play a Star Wars game, I'll buy a GameCube and SW: Bounty Hunter.
There are a lot of great Star Wars games out there... unfortunately they're all EXTREMELY old.
Thanks to Disney and the “AAA” games industry, my interest in Star Wars has never been lower.
for those that do not know Sabacc is the card game that Han won the Falcon off Lando
I love the honesty and breakdown you bring to the reality of gaming and greedy corps. Thank you. I will be a loyal subscriber for as long as you remain honest and not fall into payoffs like I've seen from other good critics. Cheers my new favorite go to for game info guy.
The AAA gaming industry cannot crash fast enough.
It really seems like it wants to. Like it's right around the corner.
Oh it's happening right now. In slow motion.
Ubisoft are sitting on some amazing IPs and yet they seem to be hellbent on running themselves into the ground ... I just don't get how a company can be that clueless.
The CEO doesn't respect your freedom. He wants to corner the market like a cable sub. Complete control freak.
I agree. GOG will have it on sale before Christmas.
im shocked he didn't bring up how ubisoft games are some of the most quickly discounted games ever. the ultimate version will be $30 this year for sure
@@mimivrc4148 $30 would still be overpriced.
Do not buy it, do not support it. Easy.
It's so simple... Yet people will still get it
shiiiiiit if you think that's bad for cut out day 1 content being sold back to you, wait until someone shows off all the outfits & skins you can buy.
example assassin creed odyssey
A pack can cost from 500 credits to 1.5k
which
you can buy 1.k for 10 bucks or 2.4k for 20
There are also the "time saver" mtx which that game was infamous for.
which vary from 200-2.k credits.
So i'm curios to see how bad the pricing is going to be for this latest game with their mtx, it's ubisoft i doubt they aren't going to have them.
Oh undoubtedly it will be bad but we won't know HOW bad until launch.
the subscription payment is WAY worse because they WANT you to forget your subscription and just keep paying them
