Exactly what I was thinking, I remember seeing him on that horrible "The Man Show" or whatever and I loathed the guy. I felt sick just watching him on the screen, but lately he has really been pulling through and his speech about his son was very heartwarming.
Jimmy is probably so relieved to see that his son will be able to do something like what Sean does and that this won't have to be an enormous deal for him if treated with enough care.
My son was recently born with the same heart condition, and I felt relieved knowing he has a chance to do such amazing things, just like Sean. Definitely a scary situation still. So many unknowns. Everyone and every story is obviously different. But there is so much hope ❤
You can tell how he really wants to know what is going to happen to his son from how much of a scar it leaves to how frequently he has to be tested. My heart breaks for him. Toughest job in the world being a parent.
LOL Yeah. Never mind being a oil rig worker, special forces soldier, coal miner, crab fisherman or deep sea diver etc. Being a PARENT is the toughest! LOL
It's so hard to realise that Jimmy is REALLY trying to not show that much emotion when he's asking these questions. He's very interested in what could happen to his baby. 😣
My newborn nephew just made it home after about a month in the hospital, he had the same disease. Now a days heart surgery isn't limiting so long as it's done early enough. Jimmy's son will live a perfect life so long as Jimmy allows him to.
I have a heart problem called Marfan Syndrome and cannot thank you enough for bringing light to heart problems in the media and spreading awareness!!! Wishing nothing but the best for your family and son!
@@alexbandow what a difficult condition! My family was hit by this syndrome 3 generations back I guess but most of them didn't make it!Died from heart issues!I am badly affected too!I know what you going throw!
I didn't know this young man before but I love how reassuring he is and more power to you Jimmy, your kid will hopefully be as healthy as this young man is.
Quinn moore First of all you need immediate help with your anger management issues if a UA-cam comment makes you this furious!! Second: funny enough you don't seem to know him that well either since you spelled his name wrong lol
I think Jimmy found comfort in seeing someone with such a great track record as Shaun because if he can do it, so can Billy. Jimmy, it’s going to be okay, friend. We won’t let you or Billy down. We love you and are keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers, always.
Deveney Henrion I reckon cause they're very normal people who have to work very hard to be good. Can sometimes make them a bit rude as they are the best at their sport but often they seem like really decent people
Good on him for coming in, out of the blue, just for the show just cos he had the same condition. Sorry for the bad pun, but that takes a lot of heart! ;P =D
It was very kind of Shaun to take a break from his training just to do this show. He really is an inspiration to others with this same condition, and to others in general with medical problems. Never give up hope, your diagnosis doesn't define you! It helps make you :)
A friend of mine has cystic fibrosis, CF. I'd go see her in the hospital when she was ill. Whenever we heard of another child with the same thing, we'd go see them. One day, we were 16 and heard of an infant who had been diagnosed and on the same floor. We went to visit and baby's Dad was there trying to feed baby and was too stunned to begin processing his new baby's diagnosis. We played with his baby and made teenage jokes. After a few minutes, mt friend told him she has CF and she plays sports and was a normal kid most of the time. He started crying and we left. Years later, I'm an adult and given the same awful type of diagnosis for my kids. I realized 25 years later, baby's Dad was crying because his daughter had the possibility of a happy childhood. We thought our teenage antics upset him, but those antics is what gave him the tears of joy. My guess is the Flying Tomato knew that...and that's why he went. It wasn't to be on the show or meet Kimmel. It was to encourage a parent who desperately needed it and give him hope of a normal life for his son.
At first I thought, what coincidence that he was booked on the show (I'm not that bright). Kudos to Shaun for coming on the show on short notice and take away some of Jimmys fears.
A similar thing happened to a student at my school. He was playing soccer on the field and suddenly just dropped to the floor. However, he didn't pass out, he was dead. Turns out that he had a heart condition that went undetected and it killed him within an instant. Situations like this made me realize how important it is to be careful because you never know what may happen. - RIP
Shaun White what a great guy .He does so much for Children Hospital's. He an amazing athlete with a giving soul .Thank you Shaun for being you and caring so much for others.
I have Tetralogy of Fallot. I had surgery when I was 3, and will eventually need a valve replacement. I've never met anyone with it; crazy to see/hear all these stories now.
Chaundra1030 no way!!! I was born with it too and I had my op at 5yrs Old. I'll have to get a valve replacement one day as well ( I'm 32) currently awaiting an MRI to check the size and function of my heart to see if it's now time to replace the valve 🙀 so glad you left your commment❤️ you're not alone!!
Flutterby 84 I'm 35 and see a cardiologist every 2 years. They told me I couldn't get a replacement until the leaking gets bad which confuses me. I'd think you'd want to fix the problem before it happens!
Chaundra1030 same!!! It's so nice to speak to someone who's going through exactly the same thing. They do all these test every couple of years and I always prepare my self to think that this will be it. They'll finally replace the valve. And then they just say no. You're coping well with it so we'll leave it until it's necessary. That worries me though because how bad does it have to be for them to replace it?!
Flutterby 84 EXACTLY!! If its causing a side of my heart to slowly enlarge from the blood flowing backwards then just fix it. Its a big procedure though so maybe that's why? Did they say you'd need another replacement every 20yrs or so after your first? I was told human valves don't last too long so I'd have to do a pig or metal valve (which I heard can click in your chest and leave you taking blood thinners so clots dont form). Scary stuff. No one can undersatand the feeling but us!
I got a surgery on July 2016 at the age of 28 (29 now of course). Doctors never knew why the previous doctors that treated didn't put me under surgery. I got a valve replacement but apparently, since it's animal growth or something (from a pig actually), I won't need a new one.
Good luck to you and your family, Jimmy. I know your pain. My son has a severe cardio myopathy that threatened his life at birth. He thankfully survived and seems to be recovering. He's now 2 years old. The fear for his life you'll experience every day will not go away. I didn't take the emotional stress seriously at first because I felt it's a man's job to be strong. Now, two years down the line, I'm a mental wreck. This experience will impact you even more deeply than you realize. Don't let the fear win.
I knew Shaun had a heart condition but I never realized I had the same one as him. I always do stress tests and everything too and it makes me happy to see someone else has it also because everyone I know is normal. This just makes me so happy to see people that I look up to discuss a topic I relate to so closely. I hope Jimmy's baby has the same healthy life I was blessed with despite this condition.
My son just got diagnosed he's 7 days old. This video these comments are making me wipe my tear and strengthen my back bone for my family God bless you all
Wow. Thank you jimmy and shaun for this. I needed this. My boy has a congenital heart defect too and is a little younger than jimmy's boy. It's so hard when you find out something is wrong with your little baby and you can't do anything but have faith in strangers (the doctors and nurses) to make it all ok again. Even though as a parent you just want to rip out whatever they need from your own body and give it to your child. Thank you jimmy for sharing this very personal experience with the world and thank you shaun for being an inspiration like jimmy said. I have such gratitude for this
We never held out son killian back. He is a keen parkour and extreme sports enthusiast. Well done He was treated no differently and this is what made him what he is today x good luck guys
I'm really impressed by how you not only shared your son's story, but are using it to educate both yourself and your audience. Believe me, the calm, let's-get-educated approach really helps. My late husband had a lot of health problems and we asked a lot of questions so we knew what was going on. And my weirdest job benefit ever was that I worked at Scholastic on the Babysitters Club books, which depicted one of the characters calmly dealing with Type I diabetes; when my husband developed Type II, I was almost too laid-back about it, while he was feeling overwhelmed! Good luck to you and your family, especially Billy.
My oldest daughter had Tetralogy of Fallot and had open heart surgery at 4 months old. Her doctor, Hillel Laks, a brilliant surgeon saved her life. She is now 47 years old and the mother of three.
Wow, really great spirit from Shaun to come in out of nowhere and talk about this. And very brave of Jimmy to do this interview so professionally -Good luck with it all!
I have TOF myself! Two open heart surgeries under my belt at 20 years old and now happy and healthy 😀 much love to jimmy and his family, my parents cried the whole way through the original video because it hits so close to home, great bringing light to this condition ❤️❤️
One of the best Jimmy Kimmel ever. His words was so strong and personal. My grandson was born with a Hypoxemic Heart, My grandson Elijah has had 3 open heart surgery's and he's only 3yrs old. It hit our family extremely hard. The affordable health care act need to be seriously looked at, but not taken away
As someone with this same heart condition, it's inspirational seeing someone succeed like Shaun White has. But also, way to make the rest of look bad, dude. I always got the "no restrictions" talk from my cardiologist, but between my parents being overly protective and me not liking gym class, it's a miracle I can even walk without injuring myself.
I think this is so beautiful how these two could bond over something that they share a commonality with. I like that Shaun White can sort of be the ensuring factor that just like himself, Jimmy Kimmel's baby will turn out fine too.
My son had a similar issue, born with VSD (a hole between the two chambers), and had major complications when he was 6, and had an infection in the heart muscle tissue, which was eating away his heart, and spread to his lungs and caused lung damage and he had to have surgery to fix the damage to his heart and close the hole. It was devastating and he was left so weak. A doctor told me how exercise can actually help the lungs grow larger capacity (ala olympic athletes), and that maybe my son could expand his capacity to the point where he made up for what was lost. SO, after a long recovery, he asked to be on swim team, the doctor said yes, and I let him. I was terrified he would pass out or something!!! But, I didn't tell the coach about his situation because I didn't want them to treat him differently or not push him...you better believe I was always right next to the pool and watched him like a hawk so I could jump in and save him! He did great, had no issues, and a couple years later was tested and had almost 100% expected capacity. Kids are amazing...they just get with it and recover. My son is a strapping handsome 18 year old. The military won't take him because of the heart surgery...butttt, I'm pretty ok with that! :) I sure wish the Kimmell family all the best.
Just a few months ago I went into heart surgery at 14. It was one of the scariest times and I had an artificial valve put in and my pulmonary valve taken out. Seeing this and your other video about your son really hit me hard. I know this video is old but it’s something that means so much to people.
Thank you so much for having Shaun white on your show jimmy talking about his heart surgery he had when he was a baby. This helped a lot thank you! Shaun white is such an amazing person ❤️
I was also born with tetralogy of Fallot. Shawn White is kind of one of my heroes. I don't know of any other celebrities that have it. I have a lot of trauma from my 2nd surgery and his work has helped me to start to become more comfortable with it. Thank you Shawn.
A family member of mine had this condition as well. He had surgery as a baby and is thriving now. We are very grateful for him and the surgeons that helped him.
My nephew has this as well. He had to go through surgery when he was 6 hours old. He is a miracle baby and it's great that jimmy is promoting! San Diego radys hospital is the best!
As someone who had brain surgeries as an infant, I can totally relate to these experiences and it is revealing to see how different it is for those who have no experience with this sort of thing. It is such a different world growing up where doctor visits and surgeries were normal. I had no idea that this is such a foreign thing to almost everyone. So great for Shaun to help Jimmy and his family in this way and by virtue of the show many others in similar situations.
I was born with Tetraology of Fallot. I had my first repair at 5 months. Everything seems fine, but I'll be having another surgery to get a pace maker in a couple months. I'm 19 now. It's really inspiring to hear that despite the defect, Shaun White became an Olympian.
Shout out to Shaun Whites parents, they raised an excellent son.
The Pun of Harts Shaun sexually assaulted his drummer and forced her to watch scat porn with him.
Is that proven or is it just an allegation?
The Pun of Harts How do you know they raised an excellent son? Because he gives good interviews?
The Pun of Harts No no no they didn’t raise him he raised himself
They are the true hero.
I haven't seen him in ages he looks very mature now...
Still is

The look of relief was subtle, but it was there when Shaun said his parents didn't limit him. Perfect thing for Jimmy to hear right now.
Shaun's a real bro
seamac206 So ur fake
What more could a father want than to have someone come in and say "I have the same condition as your baby...and I'm an Olympian."

Not football players.
Most actors are fake. They're speaking for the camera and the crowd, not being their true self.
This is really good. You can see it is therapeutic for Kimmel. What a nice guy for coming in and reassuring him.

Meghan Albright I was crawling expecting to see comments about how pretty he is but was sorely disappointed.
Agree , but he’s always been cute to me, now he’s handsome!!!!! Very !!
Amazing what a great haircut and working out can do
And also a winning attitude and spirit

It hit our family extremely hard. The affordable health care act need to be seriously looked at, but not taken away

I’ve got tetralogy of fallot as well, surgeries at the age of 2 months and 16 years old. Thank god we have amazing doctors also here in Finland.
Poor Jimmy, having a child with Tetrology of Fallot is extremely stressful and worrying. Just goes to show how amazing medicine truly is.
Shaun seems such a cool person. He gives great advice in a way that makes you feel better about the situation

:) I sure wish the Kimmell family all the best.
happy for him!
Just a few months ago I went into heart surgery at 14. It was one of the scariest times and I had an artificial valve put in and my pulmonary valve taken out. Seeing this and your other video about your son really hit me hard. I know this video is old but it’s something that means so much to people.
Hope you’re doing well!
My son who is 2 months old has Tof PA MAPCA's. This gives me some hope. Stanford do your best.

I was also born with tetralogy of Fallot. Shawn White is kind of one of my heroes. I don't know of any other celebrities that have it. I have a lot of trauma from my 2nd surgery and his work has helped me to start to become more comfortable with it. Thank you Shawn.
aw jimmy i think needed shaun to tell him itll all be ok :)
Joe Murray yeah he definitely did. it was so nice of Shaun to go down there and bring him some comfort and hope

Shaun White is awesome! Love his parents! Good job!
A family member of mine had this condition as well. He had surgery as a baby and is thriving now. We are very grateful for him and the surgeons that helped him.
This shows that Shaun has a good heart....literally!

Little did he know he would win a gold in 2018... I met Shaun once cause he’s from my hometown and he is literally THE NICEST MAN EVER.

I LOVE THIS DUDE WHEN I WAS YOUNG!
They're both great! ❤️
I was born with Tetraology of Fallot. I had my first repair at 5 months. Everything seems fine, but I'll be having another surgery to get a pace maker in a couple months. I'm 19 now. It's really inspiring to hear that despite the defect, Shaun White became an Olympian.
I can really tell Shaun's a very kind & honest person
what a chill dude.
What a lovely guy Shaun White is.
Oh no! My son's gonna be a snowboarder! lol Keeping it light Jimmy!
I have this same heart defect and Shaun is such an inspiration for me
