  • In Episode 339 of Hidden Forces, Demetri Kofinas speaks with Nathaniel Whittemore, host of the AI Breakdown for a timely conversation about the latest news surrounding the firing of OpenAI’s CEO and co-founder Sam Altman.
This was recorded on Monday, November 20th as part of a Live Q&A for members of our Genius community that we opened to all of our newsletter subscribers. Nathaniel and Demetri discussed what is known thus far about the reasons behind Sam Altman’s firing, why it’s being described as a "coup," who the various factions are, and how much of this has to do with concerns around AI safety vs. accelerationism. We also discuss the opportunity this creates for OpenAI’s largest shareholder (Microsoft), the implications for the AI industry, as well as the largest players in the space for AI foundation models, and much, much more.

This technology is easy to replicate, just a matter of acquiring enough training hw at this point. The Genie is out of the bottle. The OpenAI construct have ensured that the technology is now distributed widely and in the hands of everyone (and any state) that wants to take advantage of what this technology can do.

people have to learn that the best defense is broadly shared peace and prosperity instead of winner take all and the greed of what we have now of the .01 percent.

I agree with both statements but the missing component is that people need to accept that widely shared and open access for all means horrible things can happen.
There are responsibilities that come along with a free society that I do not see people ready to carry.
I wouldn't change anything because of that, but society is not ready to carry that reality.
