Prusa MK4 Build Kit Assembly

  • Follow along as we tackle assembly of the Prusa MK4 3D printer. We saved over $300 by opting to have the machine shipped to us as a kit and without assembly. Our experience proved that even first-timers can manage the assembly of this machine. The steps were clear and concise and we had no difficulty following (especially the steps with gummy bears).
This video contains a total of 8-hours worth of assembly time, split over a few days.
Feeling hungry after the build? Grab your own gummy bears! amzn.to/3wGdY3e

Prusa pretty much nailed it with the belt tension app.
So many issues with new builders were usually tied to belt tension or bad z height. They pretty much fixed that with this machine.
Great video! Hope you are enjoying your printer

The prusa bear upgrade did this 2 years ago

Thanks! Loving it so far. Agreed that the app made a huge difference. It was so nice to know that we had the tension right before moving on.

The app didn’t work for me. I just set the tension to feel right, and it works fine!

Thanks for making video on this. Looks like you had no regrets with the kit purchase - I'm on the fence with kit vs assembled unit. Saving $300 would be nice - could be used for an MMU.

same thought as me. you then purchased it as a kit?

IMO for anyone that’s not using this for a business where down time is a major factor the kit version is the best for the average user/hobbyist.
You really learn how the printer functions.
Not to mention, in the US, you don’t have to deal with the import fees bc it’s under $800 not including shipping.
Least that’s how it was with my Mk3S+. Got a MK4 on the way but it won’t be shipped for another few weeks. I did NOT pay any kind of import tax on the MK3 when I bought it last year.

Agreed. We actually liked the assembly process for that exact reason. Being new to 3D printing in general, we now feel like we have a much better understanding of how the machine works after physically putting it together and learning and understanding each step.

It’s fun. Problem is I enjoy building these things as much as I do everything else. A Voron is next on my radar. After I build it I’ll prob sell the MK3S+.

@@DD-sw1dd The Voron looks like a fun build as well for sure.

That is one of the reasons that sealed the deal for me. Knowing how the thing goes together and being able to fix it is a big plus, compared to proprietary offerings like the Bambu.

I added an extra sheet to my MK4 kit, and brought the value over $800...I got a surprise message from DHL asking for import fees. Keep it under $800, which is the bare bones MK4 kit, if you want to avoid paying fees. My mistake!

I have different 3dprinters. The prusas are the only ones still running because I assembled the kits and learned how to service and tweak them without fear.

Great build video! The soundtrack volume was a little excessive, maybe I'm getting old. Hoping to get a kit soon and that the wait time is less now..

I currently own a Ankermake M5, which has been really great so far. I'm now leaning toward getting a 2nd 3D printer and very much looking at the MK4, as I really want to build a printer to learn more about 3D printing.

next time, grab a metric bitset and a screwdriver and dont deal with the allen keys unless you have to. Saves so much time and wrist strain.

Assembled my own and had some trouble getting the z-axis to pass it's initial check. Turns out, you can try adjusting as much as you want, it's a waste of time and it won't pass the check. But you can have it pass if you stick a pencil near the front end so it doesn't move past a certain distance during testing. Not sure whatsup with that.
