- So there are unconfirmed rumors around Halo getting a complete and total reboot with EVERYTHING being axed INCLUDING voice actors, ALL story (even the classic games), and starting from scratch. This are my thoughts on it.

This is the exact reason why consistency is important when writing a story, and it's critically important when you are creating a massive extend universe. What sets Bungie apart from 343 is they cared about consistency in the cannon/direction of the overall story. However since 343 has never had a solid vision on where they wanted to take halo's story; it has resulted in the inconsistent mess that is the reclaimer saga (and it's expanded lore), which is already on top of all the massive retcons they made to Bungie's cannon. Retcons are inevitable in certain situations, but should mostly be avoided and kept to a minimum. Otherwise you get an inconsistent/broken cannon where nothing makes sense and stories don't connect/build off each other.
I can see a reboot backfiring tremendously if 343 is left to handle it.

In order for a halo reboot to succeed 343 must not make the reboot and they should just continue from halo 3 ending make halo 4 and 5 and infinite not canon
Reboot the whole halo franchise would be like if Star Wars reboot all of Lucus 6 movies which would be unforgivable.
While I agree, at the same time, look at it from the lens of "you're getting the new ones like the sequel trilogy no matter what. Would you rather have it attached to the good ones and muddy the universe making it hard to even look up info on the story/universe without the muddied mistakes, or would at least rather have it be its own thing you can completely ignore?"
If it's a reboot POST HALO 3 I would totally be okay with this, as this is something I've been saying would be best for the franchise for a good while now. Kind of like Starwars legends, but I doubt this would actually piss many people off if they did this 😂😂😂

I’d be pretty annoyed. The Forerunner Saga is the best narrative in the franchise, Halo 4’s story is amazing, and most of the novels under 343 have been great.

@@NoNameTaken117 How so? I just played earlier. 7 minutes to load the menu. Crashed after 2 games. Most of the new cosmetics for S5 are overpriced microtransactions. Still a MASSIVE amount of bugs.

Plus I never gotten a crash on infinite since I play on the Xbox 1 S.
And there has been a majority of bug fixes but still there quite a few.
Now onto why Halo is being saved, we have firefight coming, a new gamemode, forgeable AI, more cosmetics including the flood cosmetics, events that will be numerous in the coming season, 50 tier battlepass, crosscore helmets, and much more to come.

If Halo was to be rebooted, it should start with the ending of Halo 3/beginning of Halo 4. Instead of Chief drifting towards Requiem, meeting the Didact, the Forerunner trilogy of books, then Halos 5 and Infinite, they should take a step back.
In the original ending for Halo, they planned on revealing that the Forerunners were merely ancient humans. Bring this back.
The trilogy, ODST, and maybe Reach are still canon, but everything after Halo 3 (and I guess before Halo Reach) is then changed.
It would be like having two wildly separate, contradictory, incongruent, and different sequels to the same movie; the first film is still canon to both sequels, but the sequels' canonicity is mutually exclusive.
Lineage A: Halo CE - Halo Infinite
Lineage B: Halo CE - Halo 3, then a new game in a completely different direction.
Steve Downes is still Chief, he still finished the fight in 2007, he's just gonna wakeup from cryosleep somewhere other than Requiem.
What does Forerunners being humans actually add to the story though? Cause I can tell you a couple things it takes away
Personally despite being a Reach fan I think The Fall of Reach is better, especially because O’Connor was involved in the writing and he seems to absolutely hate Nylund who arguably had contributed almost as much to Halo’s story as Joseph Staten himself

I remember playing Halo Wars 2 thinking "wow I'm glad these enemies are relegated to a spinoff game", was utterly disappointed not only to see them furthered as the main antagonist as the series but also how terribly they were represented in Halo Infinite. It's the "Covenant but not the Covenant" thing... supposed to be like "yeah humans are not really bad we are happy to work together" but then they are completely opposed to them in the later books and game anyway... 0 creativity in that studio.
As long as 343 is in charge a reboot is not gonna save Halo.
I think a good idea would be instead of rebooting the series, put it in cryo sorta.
If they wanna work on a "Halo that isn't halo", they could maybe make spin off games based on the fractures infinite brought in, something that won't affect the main cannon.

If anything, just let other non-343 studios make Halo spinoffs and use that as a screening process to see who may be best to take over Halo instead of 343
Lets not forget in terms of short term contractors they used them so much in the slipspace engine creation to the extent no on currently employed at 343 can fucking work it.
When i heard that info i realized what they meant by UI limitations when talking about new gamemodes for infinites multiplayer. It wasnt a lame excuse, it was literal that no one could figure it out.

If i had my way we’d have a transformers-halo crossover of dubious canonicity, a full list of the members of the FoR/First Strike Red Team, and of course make it official that Master Chief sings Ocean Man in the shower as Bungie undoubtedly intended.
If they wanna reboot then reboot the 343 spinoffs, Bungies Halos should remain untouched, its 343 thats the controversial one, not Bungie.
i mostly agree but the only thing i do like from the post bungie is the banished, IMO they fit with the story. . .though i would change it a bit to make them form after the fall of the cov. as them fitting the cov. during the human war just seems far fetched IMO.
Yeah that's one of my biggest issues with them. The other being they need a better reason to fight humans.
I'd be fine with "keeping" Halo 4 if they at least remade Halo 4 within the Bungie universe's story this time, yeah. Its story isn't unsalvageable like the other two, but it does need to be cleaned of all the gunk attached to it like the completely different universe it's set in. Halo 4 felt like there was one guy on it who kinda got Halo but was getting a lot of pushback from other higherups. But with that being said, the best elements from Halo 4, the ones to keep, are also the elements that were straight up setup in Halo 3 anyway, so you might as well still just call it a reboot from everything after Halo 3/Reach.

I would love to see a full remake of the OT done faithfully to the original games but with newer tech and no rushed development, but that would need to be a new team with talent and passion who knew and understood the original games, as a corperate mandate I don't think it will work especially if 343i and contractors are involved. Best to let them try a Halo 4 take 2 and see how they do and go from there. If they can make a good sequel trilogy then maybe touch the originals.

Grew up with friends getting together to play HALO. Have ALL the original HALO games & Canon books. Would be cool to be able to get some of the great FAN content to add to the collection but there's no reason to add any reboot crap to a great HALO Storyline.

Dude, Halo Wars 2 doesn't have any problems I see, aside from the anticlimactic way the Flood returned. The Banished being revealed was much more of a relief, since it got very bland with the Covenant always being either the main or secondary antagonists.
The banished reveal was great in the cutscenes but the actual lore behind them falls apart rather quickly when you start to think about it.
Halo wars 2 sucks.
1. how did the Banished, who weren't that big of a threat somehow a big enough one to become what's basically THE COVENANT but red and enough of a concern to stop them from getting to Earth being priority one?
2. The way the story happened is stupid, you get 3 spartans finding some AI as THE LITERAL BOSS OF THE WHOLE BANISHED comes in and literally doesn't kill them at least do the old "free a messenger, shoot the other" trope where only one comes back alive?
3. The ending of Halo 3 was literally contradicted with the flood still being on the ark and said replacement ring for Installation 04 somehow still being there, as far as I know, BOTH FLOOD AND 04'S REPLACEMENT GOT THANOSED.
4. It was so pay 2 win in Blitz I'm surprised that anyone evem bought the microSCAMtractions in ot to begin with.
@@SunnyMitten Dude, if you paid attention to Halo 3, then you'd know 343 Guilty Spark knew that firing a Halo ring not fully complete would destroy the entire ring, it wouldn't still be there. Also, I don't pay for Blitz Firefight, mainly because I don't care about it. And, in regards to the Banished, it's simple, obviously they're more organized by hiring mercenaries and keeping the main species Brutes. Besides, if the Banished weren't as much of a threat to the green troops on the Ark compared to the veterans on the Spirit of Fire, then the Covenant would have no problem wiping out both humanity and the Banished. Ultimately, it came down to logistics. While the Covenant built ships on other planets, they still manufactured literally ALL of their weapons on High Charity, while, similar to the UNSC, the Banished had manufacturing facilities spread across, meaning when one or two facilities fell, they were still able to keep up with demand. The size of the fighting force matters too: an entire empire would have a numbers and firepower advantage, but a smaller fighting force can easily win with the right training, since they're much more mobile, making it harder to wipe them out. As for why the Ark was still there, easy: it's bigger than any Halo ring, so it could easily take a lot more punishment.

Fully agree. Decanonize and gut 343. The Bungie era gave us something mythical and timeless. Everything 343 has touched so far has turned to ash and spits in the face of what came before.

It has nothing to do with me I'm really not relevant at all at the end of the day. I just speak my mind and call it out because I guess it makes me feel better to document the horrid things 343 and Microsoft have done to what was once one of the largest franchises to ever exist.

It was interesting to me that you talked about redoing Halo 4 with more respect for Bungies story, that’s actually a project I’ve been slowly trying to work on story, art, and gameplay wise while maintaining the current bones as a framework.
Rebooting 2 decades worth of history would kill the franchise. Alienate any remaining player base left. Even though Halo 5 and Infinite weren't the best, they still contributed to the storyline. This includes Halo Wars 2. Rebooting would pretty much nuke most, if not all of the media including literary works. This would be a horrible idea.
Halo 5 RUINED the story. To the point where it infects everything it touches. Halo can’t be saved unless 5 is removed from canon
@@Arander92 I don’t really see it so badly honestly. It’s odd sure, but I’ll give 343 slack in that the ending of Halo 4 is not easy to build off of. Halo 4’s ending worked, it made sense, and lore-wise (legalities of CIM) it makes sense that Cortana effectively had to die. Halo 5 attempts character development to an extent with the obvious Arbiter fan service cameo, nothing too horrible there. I’d be interested to see how someone can do Halo 5 correctly as it’s not as easy task. Halo 1-3 were easy to build upon, there was an obvious and easy to grasp story. Halo 4 and onwards basically looked to expand the story and whatnot because let’s be honest here, rehashing the same badass chief for another 16 years would get old, and not everyone is gonna like the way it plays out.
@@chiefeugene Following up on 4 is easy. Don’t turn Cortana INTO A MASS MURDERER! And bring the Didact back as the main villain and let us actually fight him this time. Maybe introduce the Banished as a third party. It really is that simple. But 343 didn’t want simple. They wanted character assassination

One idea I feel could work as a middle ground for the reboot crowd and the current crowd is a Metroid: Zero Mission style remake of Halo CE.
What I mean by this is for people who haven't played Zero Mission, is it would be an overhaul of Halo CE which keeps the same feel and key moments of the original, but redesigns the worser parts of the game (such as replacing the copy pasted rooms with unique ones) and adding in mechanics from later games and well as slightly altering the story to fix up a few plotholes of the original and making Halo CE fit in better with later games.
I feel studios like Raven Software and Beenox would be perfect for this remake as they did a amazing job with Modern Warfare Remastered (2017) and Modern Warfare 2 Remastered (2020).

Yeah zero mission is an amazing game and if their gonna do a reboot halo ce has janky gameplay (even if I think it’s really fun) and make the game brought up to… well I would say modern games but I think halo 3 standards would be good for map design
343i should reboot Halo after Halo: Reach. Basically wipe their slate clean. Chief wakes up, Cortana says it's been how ever many years it been since Halo 3 (so if it comes out 2027, Chief was in cryo for 20 years). Then 343 just has to not fuck up.... then they can reboot Halo again and have it be 40 years since Chief went into cryo.
For a good Halo game: Include all old weapons/ Vehicles all included. Forge world also included. For every new Halo game they must include a new weapons and must include the old weapons. Same story for the vehicles. No Gambling crates and no signs of greed in a game. DLC is no good either as many players won’t buy them so I say maybe just a season pass is a little out rages but season pass should be alright now since the other games push that logic to every game we play now. The campaign must include multiplayer and other storylines and all enemy factions playable to have their storylines. That will great the best Halo game ever. I’m not sure what a reboot would ultimately accomplish other than make people mad that all the existing lore is no longer relevant. They nailed the gameplay with Infinite. Just build on that.
Fullied agreed, especially with that Halo 4 reworking. After that, 343i if they arent completely scuttled can stick to maybe MP development and their fracture spin offs like another user suggested. Then get abunch of different dev companies/modders to make spin offs using their specialized skill set/genre that branch off from the re-done halo 4’s lore or the lore before.
ODST and Halo Wars were signs attempting deviations from the main focus of the main line games can work and has a better chance of finding a successful foot hold than trying to make direct sequels to the series when the direction and staff arent right for the job. Maybe one day a new mainline series can happen but not for several years if not a decade.
Side note: what is your thoughts on that Joseph Staten novel that added that Covenant Remnants and Prelate Prophet soldier stuff? Never got to read it so I wanted to know if its a salvageable story/entry like halo 4 can be.

Ok so say they do reboot 1, 2 and 3. Alright and by some miracle they make both 1 and 2 good enough for there to be a halo 3 reboot and this doesn't blow up in their face...
Where the hell do they go after that? Like seriously ok say they make a reach and odst as well. They will find themselves in the exact same issue 4 brought all those years later. Do they just make a rebooted 4, 5 and infinite too? If they fallow through with this they'll only be digging themselves back into the hole they're trying to crawl out of.

This haha. Ever since the tweet came out and some Halo UA-camrs started doing polls and community posts I've seen the pretty bad takes that may or may not have had me left a comment. I don't know where the strawman of reboot the ENTIRE franchise came from but that was not what critics of 343 have ever said but I digress. But yeah agree with almost everything. I do like the Halo 4 compromise with it being the start or a revised version. I also personally don't like Halo 4 it was the true start of everything wrong with the franchise. Funny thing is 343 did have a lore consistency guy and it was Frank o Conner he was the Franchise Director. Yeah the Halo Wars 2 story line doesn't make any sense. I do like the Banished well the idea of the banished a bunch of pragmatic rebels that reject the ideology of the Covenant. That said 343 did literally just treat them as Covenant 2 Electric boogalo. Where they're not theocratic but are also fighting a war of annihilation against humanity for some reason?

I knew Frank the Plank was a lore guy but the issue was he wanted to change everything from the very start. He had no respect for what came before him.
Make Halo 1 Combat evolved TV show where every level is an episode, then with renewed interest in the game release an updated version of Halo 1 but not MCC type of update, but a Counter Strike type of update, meaning keep the game as it is and just tweak things to make it better. Then rinse, wash, repeat, Halo 2 series and updated game, Halo 3, and Reach.
Do like Terminator, only reboot everything after Reach.
I completely agree. I would love to see a redo halo 4 and make 5 halo wars 2 and infinite non canon this would be my ideal world. I don't really care for the novels but seeing microsoft listen to halo fans and pruning all the bad content, would, for me be a step in the right direction.

I am friends with a 343 fan. I tell him, no one wants to read 30 books to know what is going on. Plus side content like Spartan ops, only 5% of people that played halo 4 actually completed a single mission. So like in Halo 5, no one knows who Jul is, no one knows why Halsey's arm is missing, no one even knows who Roland is, unless you keep up with the extra lore. His response, oh it's their fault for not keeping up. And you need to read books and play past games to know what's going on in reach or 3. Sure you need to play past games for Halo 3, but I never felt the need to purchase the books to know what was going on. My sister definitely didn't, she pretty much loves reach.
I recently replayed every halo game on heroic, except for wars, with my sister, who is a big bungie fan. She loved and enjoyed the Halo stories and gameplay up until Halo 4, then it was just downhill. They are just not fun or enjoyable, and no one knows wtf is going on unless your a hardcore halo fun. The best part about 4 was skipping as much of each level as possible, I can't imagine doing the mammoth level legit anymore, not when you have areas built for vehicles, and you look down and there are no vehicles in the mammoth.
Halo 5 the best part was just killing our AI teammates, I like blue team from the bungie stories, but from my sister's point of view she didn't know who they were, or why chief needed help. So to her they were just about as bad as fireteam Osiris. Except Buck, Buck was always the one we were fighting over. Vale, my god, some books hype her up as this intelligent person, even in the games she claims she can learn the elite language in a few months. She is easily the dumbest character in the whole franchise, just sits there shooting with a plasma pistol, Yeah vale is 100% intelligent, can't even use the EMP feature.
Halo Infinite I thought my sister would enjoy the most out of 343, but the game is still buggy, we ended up loosing quite a bit of progress quite a few times. We would get to the tank area, or the very last boss, then we would die, and next thing I know we are at the very first mission location. She also hated how the weapon would talk about the obvious, and she and pilot would keep talking down to chief. I liked it the first time I played it, but at the time I only really played crappy games, so seeing my sister's point of view, I agree. I also thought there would be a teleport feature when we are apart, like every halo game ever. But no it just kills your teammate when they are too far. So had to add another hour of having to travel without a vehicle between the towers, because there is barely any life in that massive map.
We saved ODST for last, and oh boy that was like getting ice cream after eating some horrible food. It felt amazing playing an actual good Halo game. I know the 343 people believe halo should keep changing to be something unrecognizable. But I think we would be happy with a classic halo game that actually has standards, like any bungie halo game ever. I would not shed a tear if 4, 5, infinite was removed from cannon. But removing the classic games would just solidify my choice to never buy a modern halo game again.

Yeah to be honest I've read all the books and most of them are blatant filler. Some aren't badly written but they are just filler.
343 seems to cater the most to basement dwellers. People who have absolutely no lives. You can see it with their virtual requirement to read all the books, the MLG pro wannabe BS they push as well as their absurdly grind progression systems.

I really feel skeptical on 343i's ability to manage the halo franchise anymore, that doesn't mean the designers and key creative people are to blame, it's the previous management and leadership at 343i and part of the consumers who buy into and support these egregious forms of video game monetization schemes found in games like Fornite, modern COD games, to list a few. It's already too late to revive infinite or attempt to regain it's player base that would've skyrocketed over counterstrike's player base for a while at launch if infinite was done right. 343i had dragged the franchise by it's feet for over 10 years at this point, and they have done nothing worthwhile to making a good game that a good majority of halo fans want that bungie was able to achieve in their games. It's disappointing for me and many others similar to my views to only imagine what infinite could've been but never executed or in the game at the end product of halo infinite.
I’ll like this so called reboot of the following conditions are met:
1. 343 stripped of their Halo rights
2: Open world game like Infinite, but in a much better quality
3. New weapons (?)
4. Story and character changes should be minor at most. Some story aspects from previous campaigns can change as long as the concept of Halo doesn’t.
If they changed anything about the classic Halo games they need a better explanation for how the heck humanity didn't know about the portal at Voi for thousands of years.
Not gonna be cool with a full reboot. The universe has a great story and lore until halo 4 came into play. I loved the themes of desperation of humanity to survive and hide from the onslaught of the covenant. Contact harvest, ghosts of onyx, reach. So many story's not fully told in the mainline. Just because the last few games have tarnished a legacy I don't think makes it fair to blow it all up. It'd be better to give the main line a long break and focus on the side stories in the universe to figure out the mechanics and aspects of halo they want to develop and move forward. I always thought their biggest mistake was making an iconic franchise so experimental.
You could see each halo from 343 as a semi-reboot because each entry fails in some regard and they try to reboot, the "reclaimer trilogy" was all about that, i think regardless if they will reboot the series or not, after these 10 years i dont have even hope in my imagination to create a world were 343 doesnt make Halo, so the only realistic "wish" i would have its for them to forget about Master Chief or anything directly related to Halo canon, and create their own isolated stories with some mentions of the classic trilogy, because with that, when they are shit, you can just exclude from your mind and keep the good ones intact. But i think in 343's mind, they already rebooted the series with Halo Infinite and if they rebooted again, they will make themselves look like a joke in their eyes, and we all know how prideful 343 is for making absolute nothing, so buckle up, Master Chief time travelling with cringe Cortana adventures it is for the next 10 years.

I honestly don't know how I even put 50 hours in halo infinite, but I wish I only put 20 in. modern halo is a tragedy and it makes me real glad that I switched over to ps4 for cod's dlc "exclusivity" back in 2015. I wouldn't have played bloodborne or god of war had I not.

Previous halo games do NOT get another chance if 343 f**ks it up. There is no turning back at that point, you've already gone too deep if its bad.
But i would, personally would like a remake instead. Maybe 343 could test the waters. Like what capcom did. Don't reset everything persay, but if it goes well then perhaps we could accept it. Just don't go make everything worse. Tie up plot holes, make the gameplay better and fix glitches, improve the multiplayer, and improve graphics and it should be good.
Sadly at this point I wouldn't trust 343 to take out the garbage.
But this is a better idea than what was proposed but supposedly it isn't happening anyways. I don't know. I saw some headlines the other day that said it's not but I didn't read into it yet. Been too busy with work.

Very good analysis and idea process! I agree with this message… sadly. Halo has been in a bad place for years and I have been forced to accept that now in recent months. I really would like the series to get a new developer like ID Software or even a new team that has tons of experience with Halo and first person shooters and knows both of them exceptionally well. Heck, hire some people who made some awesome Halo mods online!

what could be a good compromise would be to move away from the Chief-Cortana side of the story and move into, for example, Gray Team or the Spartan IIIs prior to or during Operation Prometheus and Torpedo

Just start from Halo 3 again easy
Just reboot the 343 bs. Just go from Halo 3's story. And make a game where the Spirit of Fire finds the Forward Unto Dawn and Chief fights against the banished on the ark. Then get off the Ark to find Halsey to make a new Cortana. Then bring back the flood for the ultimate ending. Then just make some spinoffs, a ODST game between Halo 3 ending and Spirit of Fire game. Arbiter hunting down the covenant. It'd be so easy for anyone with a brain, just make content that connects the universe. The franchise has been rebooted 3 times now: 4, 5 and Infinite were all reboots respectfully. Microsoft and 343 are always behind the trends and they always pay for it.

I think it goes without saying but as the franchise essentially committed suicide after the release of Halo 5, the disastrous launch of MCC and Infinite being a huge letdown, as long as 343 is in charge they will continue to drive Halo into the ground until its rotting in a gutter like so many other franchises out there.

And although I personally like some of things by 343, but seeing the mess 343 created in their management it makes me feel my patiences with them as in the last year or two due to Infinite's awful microtransaction system with no real way of getting a bunch of customization without actually paying real life money, the incomplete state it's in from the features that wasn't there at launch, and lack of respect from the tv show. I have to say I wouldn’t be against a remake of the og trilogy in the right hands the problem is 343 is very shall we say incompetent in the art of making good games. I feel if we’re gonna have a reboot we need to give Halo to someone like ID or a company like that could actually do a reboot justice.

@@BrokenCircle1 Perhaps reboot isn’t the right word but I wouldn’t mind seeing the story and gameplay tweaked a little bit CE is an amazing game as is 3 and 2 is pretty great too (The campaign gameplay holds it back sadly) but there are things I wouldn’t mind seeing get an update to mix things up CE in particular had a problem with copy paste rooms and repetition due to there not being that many weapons and AI types in the game so I wouldn’t mind seeing more of course you have to balance this out with keeping the sandbox from being bloated as this became a thorn in the series side starting with Halo 2 and it wasn’t till Infinite that the problem got addressed in any way (Infinite of course has it’s own problems but that’s a whole different discussion) I could spend all day talking about what I’d do with Halo CE and the rest of the og trilogy for that matter they all have their own interesting quirks and issues that you’d have to work around which is what makes them so much fun to talk about.
Halo reboot would be horrible and uncessary. I'd be interested in pre-Halo trilogy like, Halo: Harvest, or follow an OSDT group across several colonies, from Rebels through first contact. But... at some point, we should just appreciate what we had and look forward to a new IP.

If BUNGIE got back Halo and made a Halo game that let you play through the early phases of humanity all the way to Halo 3, and then a timejump as the endgame teasing a potential Destiny reboot, where Humanity would be put back in the underdog position by that same giant orb actually being the Librarian's "guardian of secrets" being shattered by the "Endless Reunion", made up of the endless, and Cabal, along with jackals, brutes, hunters, elites, drones, grunts (that are made more human like the XCOM 2 sectoids), other humans and shansayume, and this time merely wanting to enslave humanity to use them to rule over the galaxy they were so long trapped away from as payback, and the endgame of said Destiny reboot is having a war wage in a live service tactical and guerrilla warfare on each sode, (basically a semi-real time halo version of battlefront 2 but the conquest mode), and after live service ends, Humanity's victory against the endless is the update to replace it.
