- Here's another video for Katie's class. Just some fun facts and a quick view of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Hope you enjoy.
Also, there is a little footage of an Arctic hovercraft ride. Pretty sweet
I have a friend who’s biking from Key West Florida to Prudhoe Bay.. He’s at Dawson Creek, BC today. He’s been biking for 50 days and has 2000 miles to go.
Did he make it
Bro holy crap, please give us an update/story behind all of this!
I'm leaving for my first job there in 2 weeks, pretty excited.
Are you liking it so far?
How did you apply I’m trying to get a job up there
Been there, worked there, loved it. Almost 10 years.... worked for Nabors & Parker.
Thanks for posting was good to see the place again.
Much more scenic and tropical than I remember. Roughneck Sag River 76'-'77. Peace.
Back about 20 years ago, I took an engineering job in Prudhoe Bay. In March 2001, the temperature was -49 deg F (the coldest temperature I have ever been in). The oil drilling site in PB was BP owned then. Sure, enjoyed it then.
Hey I worked for SOHIO in the early eighties. Been to Prudhoe twice. This brings back memories. I really liked the co. Jet ride from Anch. to Deadhorse, they'd fly below the clouds at about 4K feet in a 727 what a trip. Good Luck!
OH, Prudhoe Bay looks amazing. Thank you for the video and for the Fun Facts about Prudhoe Bay, Alaska!!!!! We love you very much. Mom, George, and Grama Darlene

Why was there just one snippet of northstar in the middle? Where’s the rest of that video?
great video
How did Prudhoe Bay get its name? I come from a small town in Northumberland, England, named Prudhoe. It would be interesting to know if there is any connection.
Maybe a gardening Capitol where frozen foods started
Best part. Magic carpet ride.....
I love flat Earth confirmation, thanks.
How much on average do guys get paid to go work up there?
As a carpenter in Tacoma, WA we built huge pump stations for Prudhoe Bay. We installed 2' and 3' stainless pipe. I was told the pipe would last 2 or 3 years because of the rough oil. I wonder if they are still there, this was 1983.
Mike M Probably not there anymore.
have you been out on the arctic ocean ?
Christian Thompson
yes. There are yearly “polar bear plunges” that go on where people jump in!!!
Are you paid weekly
How do you get to work there?
Fly out of Anchorage into Deadhorse airport.
LMFAO Schlumberger?
What his wife name
Spend 10 years in DeadHorse/Prudhoe Bay. Made a lot money and divorces. We never had a bear problem but the environment has changed due to climate change.
How do I get a job up there
Summertime mosquitoes.
how tf can anyone afford a flight from wherever every 2 weeks?
Company pays one way. You pay the other. Big money being made on the slope.
@@joshk3476 ticket from europe is over $1000. that must be some really big money.
It's really only one round trip ticket every 4-6 weeks for the "normal" schedules.
The plane this guy got off of there is the Shared Services 737 operated by Conoco Phillips but cost is also shared by all other companies...they basically buy a ticket on the plane for you and send $ to Conoco. So, if you live outside (what we call anywhere that isn't Alaska) all you have to do is get yourself to Anchorage and your company pays the Shared Services ticket to Prudhoe Bay.
Some people make good money, some don't make as much. The advantage is the "normal" shift is 12 hrs/day, though many times we work up to 18. So you hit overtime pay pretty quickly compared to a standard 8 hour day. The normal hitch is 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, or 3x3...but I know many people (single men mostly) that work 8 weeks or more straight, then take 2 weeks or so off, and come back for another hitch of the same. It all has to do with company policy, manning, and amount of work that needs to be done at any given time.
There isn't much to spend money on up here; t shirts, smokes, sodas and energy drinks is about it. No bars, restaurants, coffee houses etc. So the money you make, you don't really spend for half of your life (if you're on the normal 2x2 or 3x3 rotations). Most of the people that work up here live outside, so they have to take that cost into account. Instead of all the other things you spend money on during the course of the month, they spend on an airline ticket. I have discussed this with several guys living in the lower 48 and most say that even with the cost of the airline tickets (averaged around $700/month from L48 at the end of the year), they have more money at the end of the month due to the higher cost of living in Alaska.
I've only known about 5 or 6 guys that came from overseas, so I can't speak for them all. Those guys were on a 4 x 4 schedule, primarily due to the cost of the tickets. So that's only one RT ticket every two months. If someone is normally assigned to work somewhere in Europe, but is up here on special assignment for one reason or another, the company will pay both ways of the flight.
