"We tread the icy path slowly and cautiously, for fear of tripping and falling.
Then turn abruptly, slip, crash on the ground and, rising, hasten on across the ice lest it cracks up.
We feel the chill north winds coarse through the home despite the locked and bolted doors…
this is winter, which nonetheless brings its own delights."
- Antonio Vivaldi
III. Allegro - the final movement of Vivaldi's "Winter" from his Four Seasons performed by Ray Chen with the Rockport Chamber Music Festival Orchestra.

Dear @@Daria-ut6en
I feel the same.😢
I used to watch it almost every day,
and I was impressed each time.🍀
❤❤❤ I LOVE TONIC SO MUCH
Watching from a faraway place, I have always dreamed of performing with Ray Chen or Hilary Hahn or someone like that. You are my motivation to practice!
Ray's bow hair just can't handle the passion.
Hope you enjoyed this movement! Let me know where you're watching from!
From Korea! Your music is cooling down this hot, sticky weather ;) Looking forward to your concerts in Seoul this August
Hello from Hong Kong
Greetings from Germany
UK.... and I would love you to come here, Ray. I never tire of Four Seasons. Loved your interpretation. I know one shouldn't put limits on goals but this is one piece that will elude me.... Am only 2 years in, learning violin and currently nursing a fractured right wrist so am sorely missing playing right now.... hoping also that I will regain full mobility.
California :D
The passion, sensitivity and virtuosito that Ray puts into his performances is unmatched IMO. I love the strong emotional connection that he makes with each piece he plays. And he was smiling by the end of this stellar rendition! A fan from the USA.
Calm down, don’t cream your panties.
Well said and soo true ❤
Totally agree. He finds joy in every piece he plays and that comes across to the listener.
I love how I can never tell how old this dude is. He literally never ages, and his playing only gets better. Props to Ray for being Ray Bae and a Violin champ!
Thanks!
I've never heard it interpreted like this before. It's lovely.
Its actually garbage, completely ruins the piece. Its supposed to be baroque, not romantic
All of the musicians played with such passion in this video, I just loved watching and listening to them. What a privilege it was for those who were able to be there in person.
I don’t know where to begin. I think I first saw a collaboration with a piano guy and from there went to watch other videos and clips. The passion you had playing with him and how you show him where to jump in for effects, I could see you both had so much fun. I got suggestions of many other violinists after that but there was something missing for me personally. I wanted the fun in how you guys played together and honestly I love your interpretation of four seasons, I’ve listened to them so many times now that I actually recognize your way of playing other pieces too 😂 It’s amazing how one person’s passion for instrument can give another person a rollercoaster of emotions and passion for music they never favored before. There’s a show on a movie/tv platform where it’s very suitable, I hear it there too 😁 well one in particular but I hear you in more. Thank you for getting my ears back to wanting to hear music again ❤️ Sweden here btw
Ray, I love your playing.
Ray Chen ROCKS!
I love how Ray Chen brings something new and unique to every piece he plays. He's incredibly creative and artistic as well as technically exceptional, and he gets you invested in the music no matter what he's playing. Wonderful interpretation 👏👏👏
I love Tonic. When you are feeling down, you can go, and listen to people practicing, so suddenly you are happy, feel much better, and motivated to practice 🤩🤩
I heard it when Ray practiced it at Tonic's practice room! But now when I see it, it takes my breath away. I love the original by Vivaldi. But the way Ray plays it here with such concentrated energy and virtuosity, I'm incredibly fascinated. Thanks for sharing here and thanks for Tonic, Ray Chen🎻❣️
I have Tonic but I still can’t figure out how to listen to him practice!!!! I followed him but I still can’t hear him practicing…… How do you listen to him on Tonic???
@@hayoolleeviolin9779 Sometimes the notification works on Tonic, sometimes it doesn't. I often look at the list of who is currently practicing. With the time differences, it is often more difficult. Good luck, eventually you will hear Ray!🎻😊
Look at that bow fly! Whew!
Yep, indeed.... Makes me wonder if I could ever play this piece.
Wow wow wow wow wow love love love love love this interpretation. Thank you Ray and all the other musicians for this electrifying performance.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
These would be my words too.... though I'd have added an extra Wow! Have just re-listened to this today....
Winter is my favorite of Vivaldi's seasons, and I love your interpretation here. Fantastic performance!❤

Loved it! you are amazing. From UK
Perfect ! Great .
Now that was🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
So intense!!!! Love this! That smile at 3:33 says everything.
I am envious but moreover inspired, Ray-you tackle so many different, varied projects. And you bring so much to every one of them.
Nice interpretion, love it❤❤❤
This guy plays amazing! bravo!
Me encanta como interpreta hasta con el rostro. Dios... Amo verlo tocar el violin❤
Epic stage bro! Fitting the playing perfectly!
Amazing! I’m from Toronto Canada
JOY and PASSION!!!
I usually hate the hyperbole that always gets thrown around whenever someone plays a piece but this was undoubtedly the best interpretation of this piece i have ever heard, its so interesting and dynamic. It wasnt different for the sake of being different but it really added a lot to the piece itself. I love that Ray is at a point in his career where he is just heavy on adding his own interpretations to pieces he's no doubt played many times. There will be some misses due to individual tastes, but we will also get some amazing gems like this
World class 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Watched your Tchaikovsky concerto live in Sydney Opera house on Wednesday night🎉. Thanks for making my first violin concert experience great!
Bravo Ray Chan😀😁
Really awesome ❤
My son is learning the violin for 6 years and love watch your performance.😊
I’m watching here in HongKong. Nice performance.
Beautiful❤🎉🎉🎉
This is amazing
We live in an incredible time where we get to interact on an almost personal level and get insights from probably the best young violinist in our century.
Bravo !!!👏👏👏👏👏☺
Greetings from Iran🌹
Have re-listened to this SO many times - as doubtless have others - and shared it as well. That 'view' tally should be more like 100K imo. 🥰
Wow, thank you! And thanks for sharing 😊
*Ray:* Is talented and handsome.
*Me:* focus on the talent, not the handsome... focus on the talent, not the handsome... aaahhh dammit!
lol
It's the type of passionate playing where you can imagine that somewhere in the heavens, angels were taking bets. "Okay, how many hairs is he gonna lose on his bow this time?"
Vengerov: ~"If you didn't break some bow hairs, you didn't play it right".
Ray played it right!! 😅
Truly wonderful performance - passionate and authenticate. I like to think of it as the first ever performance of this work, back in the 1700s. 😃
ME ENCANTA
Absolutely outstanding!
The app even works wonders for this 72 year old violist! 😊
Hola buenas noches, muchas pasión hay en tus manos al tocar el violín...estás hecho para grandes logros....felicitaciones...soy tu fan...exitos infinitos 🎉 maravilloso....
Dear Mr. Chen! It's me again! I got into a little altercation the other day, thankfully I got home safe. But what I learned was, the meaning of life, such as time, the universe, nature, science, all revolve around your voice. It does what your voice tells it to do. That "voice" is God.
Damn, I love this interpretation so much. Keep it up!
Happy New Year 2024 !!!
To you and your loved ones.
May this next year continue to bring yiu much joy , and happiness. 😊

Gorgeous, of course!! And I can see you becoming a conductor in the future...
The next video came up automatically and it was from 7 years ago in Venezuela, the CRAZY Bach double concerto...with Ray holding a baton! WooooHoooooo! I had no idea when I made the comment above about you becoming a conductor! 😺
Nova no seu canal. Você toca muito, rapaz! 😮🎻💜💛
1:03 omg it's perfect
The broken horse hair flying around emphasizing the intensity of your playing.
If I remember correctly, the view of this concert hall is awesome. Too bad it was film at night. 😅All joking aside this is a wonderful performance. Thanks for sharing.
1718: my masterpiece!

Great work! I have to ask, do the wires on the end of your stick ever get in they way, or tangled?
✨👏👏👏⛄🎄⛄👏👏👏✨
Wonderful performance. Where can I find the other two movements?
The eyebrow raises and cut bow hairs are a sign of skill.
한국!!
wow! i hope you upload more videos of you playing on stage, such a beautiful interpretation.
Man, you know you missed the good stuff when the video starts and he already has four or five frayed bow strings. We Demand Movement One! :P
