if I had to guess people don't want foils because of the bending issue. You can get kicked from a tournament for "marking cards" simply because your foil cards are slightly bent and your non-foil cards are straight.
For anyone thinking about getting into magic, I’ll say this as a long time player: The game is as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be. If you want fun, interactive and powerful decks, they can be made easily with a budget of 50 - 100. But the more you go for format staples, the most powerful versions of certain effects, and the “rarest” or most sought after versions of cards, then you will be paying a pretty penny. With the above in mind, magic is the most fun I’ve ever had with a game based hobby, and I would encourage trying it out if you are interested!
I'm 30. I got into magic about 2 weeks ago when I started playing Magic Arena on my laptop. Since then, I have spent my entire savings on booster packs and commander decks. I'm taking this addiction to the grave. I even went to a Modern Horizons III pre-release event and lost every single round because I barely know how to play. Still had the time of my life and learned a lot. Watching Charlie and Wubby opening packs on UA-cam is another one of my new addictions.
@mackattack42 it's a bot string. The UTTP account constantly Copy/Pastes that same thing while this @Bfkcjscbsnjc account seems to be on every comment thread with UTTP. It's odd, BFK seems like a real person while also copy/pasting that comment you replied too. Idk what the bot is supposed to gain from this Lmao
DO NOT LOOK UP PRICES BEFORE THE SET IS OUT. the prices will all drop drastically in the first week of the set being out and nobody knows pull rates until boxes are opened. I've seen it happen dozens of times where sought after cards on prerelease sell for $100 and then flunk down to $1 a week after. do not price out cards before the set has time to soak.
Yeah the total pull price shown in the video should be taken with a grain of salt, the numbers will surely drop within months as the market gets flooded with everyone else chasing rare pulls and selling off their bulk. These numbers only count if you plan to flip your valuable cards immediately, which Charlie does not seem interested in doing, so the value of his collection opened in this video is very likely to depreciate somewhat over the next six months or so.
I saw the title and thumb now and just couldn’t help but think about Charles doing this video with an internal monologue about how he’s caving to his addiction knowingly 😂
I stopped playing back when they lifetime banned The Quartering for his comments on a cosplayer. My good decision was confirmed when they later hired the Pinkertons to threaten a guy who obtained product early and leaked a set.
These boxes are like $400 each so he's actually making profit (compared to buying the singles individually - you can't actually sell at 100% of the listed price unless you're a large store so you'd probably around break even if you sold the cards)
@@tordana This is not true. If you take prerelease prices into account then sure maybe you break even if you are lucky, but prerelease prices are usually 20% higher. Collector boosters are only useful for specific pull cases.
Also consider that whatever the P&L is at the time this video was recorded, those numbers are going to look a lot different six months from now. We're basically talking about day trading Magic cards at this point because the prices on new cards are so volatile.
The foil for some cards can be less expensive since foils aren't really competitive playable, and that more collector packs are probably being opened than normal packs.
this is too true unfortunately when i ordered a playset of spirebluff canal a while back the seller accidentally “upgraded” the order to foil and im still pissed, they’ll probably pringle to the point of being unusable by the end of the year.
Hey Charlie, I hope you read this but what I like to use in my bulk and deck boxes for my foil cards is keeping those silica packs from your shoes and stuff in there to keep the hydration out
Speaking as a former addict, the only way to break free is to go cold turkey long enough that you fall out of touch of the latest mechanics and meta, such that the thought of getting back in kinda repulses you with the expected slog of getting back up to speed. For me, the pandemic forced that upon me.
i got disillusioned by prices of cards (specifically sports) in a 2 week hiatus. you take a back seat and think about the actual odds and prices of cards and just realize its all bullshit and essentially pump and dump schemes by influencers half the time lol and especially with magic theres really no "investment" because of how aggressively meta decks get pushed out
@@larrydavidcs It's been a while, but I don't recall influencers having a lot of impact on card prices in M:tG. That being said, I think Wizards maintains their card prices by having two formats, Legacy and Vintage, which allow the use of older cards. And since the tournaments have (had?) cash prizes, one could conceivably treat cards as an investment of sorts, in having value aside from just being a collector's piece.
@@larrydavidcsif you're not playing the game then you shouldn't buy product. If you are playing the game then you shouldn't buy product. The only time you should be buying product is at prerelease and drafts when the game is constructed around opening packs.

For anyone thinking about getting into magic, I’ll say this as a long time player:
The game is as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be.
Remember guys, its not a loss when you hit big in the next pack.
You don't lose your battle against addiction of collectables, you learn to live around it.
Take the good cards and make a deck. At least your gambling addiction gets you some very gorgeous cards. Next step stunt/flex on your local game store
Doesn't sound healthy my man. You should probably proxy cards while you're still getting a feel for your play style
Sounds awful.
“feet pics… i do that shit for free” 💀💀💀
It's bots like these that ruin the UA-cam experience for everyone
@UTTP-Clockworker yoo you are straight targeting charlie wtf
@@Bfkcjscbsnjc Brother, what are you smoking?
@mackattack42 it's a bot string. The UTTP account constantly Copy/Pastes that same thing while this @Bfkcjscbsnjc account seems to be on every comment thread with UTTP.
It's odd, BFK seems like a real person while also copy/pasting that comment you replied too. Idk what the bot is supposed to gain from this Lmao
@@Bfkcjscbsnjcgambling is amazing though? You can either lose 100% if your money or win gazillions
“It isn’t card collecting I’m playing these cards” ok sure it’s definitely not a addiction
He's already stated he is not going to sell them, probably just using this for content.
I mean I doubt Emrakul and Ulamog are dropping under 10$
@@laurentrobitaille2204 if they get banned in commander they'll be 50c by the day after
how do they drop before theres a set market value? they arent dropping ,they start lower
The 5 seconds of Charlie not knowing what he was holding with the retro border ragavan was wild 💀
I very much enjoy watching people open packs. Dont open them myself or buy them, but i love to watch.
"Chasin' the Ulamog" is Charlies equivalent of chasing the dragon. Best of luck on your pulls man.
Charlie you are not collecting you are gambling in a nerdy way
Charlie the kinda guy to lose his battle against addiction
I saw the title and thumb now and just couldn’t help but think about Charles doing this video with an internal monologue about how he’s caving to his addiction knowingly 😂
Charlie’s mind could not comprehend the pauper format. Just because a card isn’t expensive doesn’t mean that it’s dogshit
As I've heard one person put it, "we all end up worshipping something."
"You should not accept addiction, you must fight it"
- someone
"your mind is like a weapon, keep it sharp"

Watching Charlie fell into addiction is also my addiction.
@@chayadol lol
My income versus what i get out of boxes ended my addiction.
I stopped playing back when they lifetime banned The Quartering for his comments on a cosplayer. My good decision was confirmed when they later hired the Pinkertons to threaten a guy who obtained product early and leaked a set.
@@DnBGolf the quartering is a sexist, transphobic piece of garbage, no reason to watch him.
He's a grifter.
So perplexed by these type of vids on one hand it’s so cool to watch these pulls on the other hand im jealous i cant play magic everyday with friends
The fact that mtg is so expensive is because of people like Charlie.
seeing him look up localized destruction with a 35 clam grief sitting on the table hurt my soul
The title had me worried for Charlie a moment there
Man was gonna come in snorting
You should put a total spent under the total pull to see the loss
Thought the same. Just showing the pull is kind of pointless.
did he say $400 per box in the beginning?
The foil for some cards can be less expensive since foils aren't really competitive playable, and that more collector packs are probably being opened than normal packs.
this is too true unfortunately
when i ordered a playset of spirebluff canal a while back the seller accidentally “upgraded” the order to foil and im still pissed, they’ll probably pringle to the point of being unusable by the end of the year.
Please give us more, I love this
for the most part, foils will sell less often because of the pringling that happens to the cards.
I knew the moment I saw the title it would be cards.
Cards literally effect people of all wealth ranges. Its incredible.
It’s okay Charlie, happens to the best of us
Hey Charlie, I hope you read this but what I like to use in my bulk and deck boxes for my foil cards is keeping those silica packs from your shoes and stuff in there to keep the hydration out
The little smile when he starts opening the first box lmao
I love these man, great content as always
Brother 15 boxes here in Aus is close to $10,000...
That's exactly how I am but man do these vids make me want to restart my collection
@@djharris6822 Oh, that thought has definitely crossed my mind. The painful thing about being a collector is not having pieces. As someone who tried to collect all the Planeswalkers, the thought of trying to make up for the missing years is a terrifying thought. "Do I have to buy all singletons? Can I trade to offset some costs? Are my previously money cards still valuable to others?
Some people don't like foils cuz they tend to pringle when u have em for a while. Love the addiction, keep it up.
Since watching these pack openings I've gone from owning 0 magic cards to owning 2000 cards,4 decks,a magic arena account and so many questions...thanks Charlie!

I thought the next sentence would be "we would break even"
😂
Magic has claimed yet another victim
the reason people dont like foils is because of curling issues
We lovingly call them pringles.
Not just a quality problem its also quantity. Foils are overprinted and no longer special. So its easy to get an entire tube of pringles lol

Kaalia of the Vast (pronounced kollia) is a commander staple which lets you cheat dragons, angels, and demons from your hand onto the battlefield provided you protect Kaalia as she is a little frail (but turn four Avacyn or Griselbrand is sick).
Kaalia decks run heavy on mana rocks, equipment/enchantments to give Kaalia haste (and shroud/hexproof), and finally the most ridiculous creatures with unreal casting costs which you can dump from your hand by attacking with Kaalia.
If you're playing a group game and everyone knows you're playing Kaalia, you've effectively painted a target on your back.
