Both the eastern and western rattlesnakes are beautiful, but honestly I like the eastern better. Their colors are amazing. I'm learning a lot from your videos. Thanks for helping an old lady keep her love of nature going. What an amazing thing to have captured my attention. Truly fascinating!!😊❤
I just today started watching your videos. I love the educational aspect of your video’s. I’m 48 and bedridden person. But I love nature so much and I love how you educate people in your video’s. Thank you so much. I’m hooked on your channel. Thank you and god bless stay safe.
We just found a 3’ western diamondback on our patio in Tuolumne County, California (near Yosemite NP). Heard it’s distinctive rattling as my cat had it cornered near our bbq. They are pretty common around here and usually not a problem. We ended up squirting it with the garden hose until it moved on away from our house. Our neighbors pride themselves on shooting them but we prefer to live and let live. I’m an ER nurse and the vast majority of the significant bites that we give Crofab for is due to people bothering them or surprising them on rural trails. Fascinating creatures.
Thanks, Will. Since I'm in NC naturally I love eastern's. They're beautiful and plentiful here in the Uwharrie's. (U-R-eees). I'm a Uwharrie National Forest girl. Been one all my life. People come from all around the world to these forests and mountain terrains for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, horse trails, ATV (and other ORT vehicles), boating, etc. Most people know to bring a snake bite kit in their first aid kits because like I said, eastern's are plentiful along with Copperheads. Thanks for another informative video!
your thinking of the canbrake rattlesnake, eastern diamonndbacks only range southeast from around lumberton then south of kenansville and james city to the atlantic coast in north carolina
Hey Sandra! Fellow Uwharrie resident. I see Timber rattlesnakes on my property on occasion. They are typically very chilled out, although the last one I saw was looking for food I think, it was feisty. According to the charts, we should be slightly out of eastern dbacks range, but they are around here. You see one that has been run over on occasion and I’ve also had a rather large one on my property
Timbers/Canebrakes are very common here but, we do have eastern diamondback's as well, just not as common this far north. My ex-husband used to remove them from people's houses. Hi Chad! Glad to meet a fellow Uwharrian! Lol
@@eddiewilson3724 you can actually find them in the southern Dismal swamp area, along with the canebrake and pygmy. Though not as common as the canebrake. The canebrake around here are huge.
Interesting fact: Crotalus adamanteus venom can be different in geographic distributions. A toxicologist from FSU found that west of the Suwannee River to Panhandle have a neurotoxin with the hemotoxin. Majority of the peninsula distribution have hemo. In Jekyll Island Georgia the C. adamanteus have myotoxin that causes prey to have paralysis on the lower half of the body.
I love the way you said, “So he’s only shed for me 6 times in the past 2 years”. Now that he knows, I’m sure he’ll try and shed a few more times than usual. 🤣 I can relate to the way you feel about your animals. I too, feel like what they’re doing is for me. Although, like you, I know their not and it’s just the way we talk but it’s really cute. This is a weird comment but I couldn’t help it. Lmao!! Please tell that gorgeous girl, Lori, that I say “Hi” and one day I’d LOVE to meet her!!!!🐍❤️🐍 Super informative video. I love those kind! One day I’m going to research how Evolution by natural selection progressed to eventual fangs.
I don't think the diamondbacks were actually in "hunting mode" when they struck those rats. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they only rattle when they're defending themselves from a threat, not when hunting.
Crazy to think there are rattle snakes out there longer than you are tall 🤯 love the color on the eastern, really pops. Such well behaved babies ❤️ meanwhile Lori just eyeballing you like “can I come out to play too dad?”
I’m sitting outside Gore Municipal Complex in Oklahoma. My mom is borrowing some money off one of her friends.💰 I’ve watched this about 4 or 5 times. I love the black striping under their eyes.♥️ 👁 I love the western Diamond Backs Coon tail Striping. ♥️ ♦️
Your eastern diamondback is incredible!!! Is this the snake that locked up a few months ago? Can't wait until she gives birth!!!!🤯😬 I feel like a little kid "are we there yet!" Hahahaha!
So much delicious new knowledge! Gotta watch this again with my notepad. So much good stuff to add! So, am I correct in thinking Viperidae all have hinged fangs but Elapidae all have fixed fangs, or are there exceptions?
I've been studying rattlesnakes for the sake of some worldbuilding, and I must ask: Are easterns and westerns related closely enough to yield viable hybrid offspring?
I love rattlesnakes. Beautiful creatures. Thanks for the education. I’ve seen many Westerns in person but never an Eastern that I know of. Can they breed with each other?
I wonder what would happen if you took a king cobra and cottonmouth of similar size and put them together? Which one do you think would eat the other? Both eat snakes.. I know king cobras almost exclusively eat snakes, but cottonmouths have more variety. I've always wondered about stuff like that. Stuff some handlers have probably seen, but there's no really documented studies of things like that.
Hahhh I was about to mention that video of those people lifting up that old ass shed and they had 100's of diamond backs under there. I have never seen something like that. Blew my mind hahaha Could you imagine how loud that area would be if you approached it and all of them had their rattlers going. SHOOOOOT, THAT WOULD BE NUTS!!!!!

I believe that Western Diamondbacks in the wild are a lot more defenses and nervous than Eastern Diamondbacks exception being the babies the yearlings tend to be quite defensive initially as they grow older they get less so with the Eastern Diamondback Western Diamondbacks in Mojave never seem to settle down at all
Hey Will, awesome video I was wondering if a eastern can mate with a western like western and timber mix that Tyler has they are monsters till next video stay safe, healthy and God bless
What can you tell us about the personalities of the two species? I've heard that Easterns are calmer, and that some of them, skilfully handled, can become quite tame.
Anybody got any input on husbandry and snake enrichment? Being in a bin for a snake is that like being in jail for a person. They can survive but it's no fun?
Enrichment can be as simple as cleaning the cage and changing the bedding. lts new smells and things have changed a little. Also at times Will will take the big snakes out and let them slither around on camera, as you know, and that is enrichment.
Eastern Diamondback rattlesnakes primary venom is Hemotoxic . Canebrake rattlesnakes that live in the Coastal plains and long leaf pine forest have hemotoxic and Neurotoxic venom.
It's all good Will. Just thought with your background they would have been huge. Bet they will be in a few more years. I for one would never handle one like you do.

always great will your favorite snake rattlers ty for your awesome videos
I like the western dimand back rattlesnake because its size and color. And my favorite climate.
So which of the diamond backs is more venomous?
Both have hemotoxic venom it would come down to which one injected the most venom.
I've been studying rattlesnakes for the sake of some worldbuilding, and I must ask: Are easterns and westerns related closely enough to yield viable hybrid offspring?
That looks like a very dark colored Western Diamondback. The ones I have seen before were much more sand colored and with a less vivid pattern
Great video! 🤓
Thanks Will.
Beautiful snakes 🐍
I’ve seen baby westerns in the wild up here but I like Easterns better honestly
Iv heard that westerns could be 8 ft also and that they’re more aggressive and some HUGE bulky westerns too
Thanks enjoy it .they are both pretty but scary in my books .thanks
Their scientific names sound like Harry porter spells lol
We have beautiful Timbers where I’m at in NJ but I’ve always wondered about the differences between Atrox and Adamanteus thanks

Could you breed a cross species between the eastern and western. Has it been done before?
Idk what kind of job you have but he'll with that dear god I would be a walmart greeter before I do that shit lol
So which one is more venemous and also which one can produce ore amount of venom ?
The western diamondback has double fangs.
Would be interesting to know if there are hybrids in the wild or in captivity. Are there any morphs in captivity? Stay safe, Will. Good video.
Do you mean between the east and the west? I’ve never personally seen them if there is any I’ve heard people talk about it but that’s about it.
@@WillNace hey will obviously they won't bite each other and i take it the genome wouldn't work on each other.
I wonder how long it is until we get a hybrid Weastern Diamondback.
It's not the eastern or the timber rattlesnake you need to worry about in the south. It's the cottonmouth you should be worried about👌
You should do the red diamondback next
Anyone know if there are any hybrids with these two snakes? I've always wondered, but can't find any information on the subject.
Hello please setting for CC captions please fix update because hard speak and I am deaf ok make sure setting ok thank.
Eastern diamondback venom is a little worse because there is more volume of venom with Eastern diamondback
