Here's something interesting to consider: Any World War 2 veteran still alive today has to be at least 94 years old if they turned 18 in 1945.

I personally know one. Dr. David Toy of Milwaukee WI. His Chinese immigrant parents owned a famous local Chinese restaurant here also. He finally retired as a Dentist in his 80's. He also fought his HOA over putting up a bunch of tiny American flags on the community mailbox mount, and won. He served during WWII in China.

Could be as young as 92 as many 16 and 17 year olds lied about their age to get in early
My Great-Grandfather did that and jumped on D-Day with the 82nd airborne though he had turned 18 by then

I also know of two 94 year olds, i.e. one who was drafted in late 1945 , who only served
11 months before being discharged in '46, only to be drafted again for the Korean War!
And, my former co-worker, who enlisted at age 17, in Dec.'44 & served only one year
in the Navy, but was in the Pacific at War's end! My own 18 year old uncle also was
drafted in '45, but passed away in '97!

When I was in the Air Force serving in Kansas the Air Force reneged on their promise to pay for college classes. They said they needed the money elsewhere and if you wanted to take college classes you would have to pay 100% of the cost out of pocket up front and some time in the future they may or may not pay back part of the cost. I fought this all the way up the chain of command to the Pentagon but failed. It was one of the reasons why I had re-enlisted, it was an recruitment/retention incentive was a college education. This was before the new GI Bill and it's generous benefits. So I called Bob Dole's office and in less than 24 hours they had fixed the problem and restored all of the money for college classes. That is what we need in D.C. today people who knows of a problem and can fix it within hours, not rhetoric. Leaders like Bob Dole are missed.

I liked his debating techniques against mondale. He was the Mohammed ali of debaters. Thats the way a debate ought to be. And he admitted afterwards it would be presumptious to say that i won. Trump should take a lesson from him. I had as much fun watching bob dole debate mondale as i had watching ali box george foreman. 33rd degree is when the Mason finds out they worship Satan. Your step father can eat it too!

I interned for Senator Bob Dole when I was in college in the summer of 1993 (even though I'm a liberal). Dole took one Armenian intern every summer out of loyalty to the Armenian doctor who saved Dole's arm, which he injured in WWII, and convinced Dole away from suicidal thoughts. The internship was great. I did everything from walking his dog, Leader (a very appropriate name as the dog walked you, you didn't walk the dog), to getting Dole to agree to cosponsor John Glenn's landmine moratorium bill. Dole was extremely kind and one of the better Republicans this country has ever had. Rest in peace and thank you for your service.

The type of leader who led based on principles and values! As an independent, admired him and miss his brand of Republican.

I remember Bob Dole I was a very young woman But he gave us hope along with John Kerry Which is why I was so disappointed with John But luckily I never voted for John but I did truly root for Bob Dole. You see that's all we could do before Now. I didn't vote for him. I couldn't. We where we're not allowed to interfere with people. Because people like me we never interfere. The affairs of life. BEFORE now we could not interfere. But the rules have changed.!!!!!! And now ...I am able to vote. So I voted twice for Donald Trump

Senator Dole was the first person who I voted for for president. I look back on the devolution of the Republican Party since then and how far they have fallen since. Thank you for your service to this country, Senator Dole.

The more I read about Bob Dole over the last 10 years, the more I grew to respect him (although I am not a Republican/Conservative voter). His political career stands in the starkest contrast to 90% of the modern GOP and Republicanism in general.

One of the last of the sane, moral, and intellectually competent Republicans.... today's Republicans would call him a RINO, kick him off of committees, and try to primary him out of the party.

His verbal comment of the newer generations need more nerve, harder workers and grit is o so true. The today's generation is so lazy and want everything for nothing. Work ethic is minimal at best. So many older generations worked hard to get what today's generations take for granted or disrespect. Not all but certainly the majority.
