Ryan could you analyse the strengths and weaknesses of Riekerd and Lachlan which allows for their back and forth in terms of when they go into their press/hook positions? I.e why is Lachlan able to pull through Riekerd in a deep supinated hook? It would be really interesting to pick your brain for this
I'm not Ryan but I can give my 2 cents. It looks to me like Lachlan requires a deep Cup for him to have access to his power. This is true both for his Toproll or for his Hook. Riekerd is really dangerous fresh. It seems like he has a superior (crazy to think about) wrist and hand when they are both fresh but after a period of pulling the hands equalize. The better leverages compared to Lachlan gives him an anatomical advantage stylistically with his Press vs Lachlan's Drag Hook and style of hand control. Basically - Riekerd can easily access his power relative to Lachlan. Endurance and conditioning plays a role as well. You can see as they pull more and more it leans more Lachlans way since he is way more conditioned to high level pulling and training. But yeah. Riekerd in a deep supinated hook doesn't have the arm power to stop Lachlans hook at that point.
