Like with hardcore enthusiasm for any fandom, appreciation and respect of the material you wish to base your identity around is at best a secondary concern.
I just can't get over how Justin and Griffin record in pretty normal environments and then Travis is coming at you live from a recently divorced English teacher's living room.
In my opinion, the best Cloud Wizard segment to date. Love seeing the art, most boring hair and attire possible on some guy experiencing enlightenment preaching 90s nu metal
I didn’t look at the article while they read it in the episode, I didn’t expect the “take a shower” step to have a guy looking like he’s excitedly preaching to a choir chanting his name for the art
@@hollandscottthomas Very true; I accidentally saw them in concert in San Diego once about a year ago because they opened for Smash Mouth and I didn’t know they would beforehand; less than a single trip around the sun later, and I already don’t remember anything about what they sound like or even what genre they are

Absolutely! I'm kinda blown away. I clicked on this wanting to know about how to enjoy stuff that isn't my taste, so I knew I'd learn /something/, but holy moly it's packed FULL of wisdom. Only bit I disagree with is the disclaimer about respecting authority and complying with cops.
So I followed this wikihow article to step 16 I still haven't actually listened to Slipknot. I don't even like metal, but I guess I'm a slipknot fan now!
Well yeah, only posers just listen to Slipknot and enjoy the music. REAL maggots know that you gotta be out there in the streets obeying traffic laws and studying.
It's absolutely absurd, dour, and hilarious that a wikihow article would see fit to futureproof an article about Slipknot IN CASE THE BAND PASSES AWAY. I think the responsibility to "keep Slipknot alive" should not be given to fans of Slipknot! What a weight to put on their shoulders!
oddly enough when I was in high school I did memorize the quadratic equation by setting it to the tune of the Slipknot song Wait and Bleed (not a joke) so I did accomplish that part
Trying to generalise it (for myself) - how to enjoy anything that you initially find repulsive: 1 - Learn to appreciate life in general, and especially take a passionate interest in stuff closely related to the subject. 2 - Transform yourself into something that reflects your desire to enjoy the subject, even before you've tried enjoying it. 3 - Reject "cringe" and "cool" and observe your interests without judgement, positive or negative. 4 - Don't let your interests turn into obsessions. Keep yourself balanced. 5 - Now, apply step 3 and 4 to step 2 and realise that you don't need to perform every aspect of fandom to be a fan. 6 - Identify with aspects of the subject you wish to enjoy, and try to look beyond the superficial. 7 - Learn how to create the thing you enjoy, in order to appreciate it on an even deeper level. 8 - Invest in your interests and share in the enjoyment with other fans. 9 - Pretty much a combination of step 2, 6 and 7. 10 - Pretty much step 3. I disagree with the "you must respect cops" bit, but that's just my opinion. 11 - Acknowledging discomfort in advance helps you prepare for it, so that it is easier to overcome in the moment. 14 (wait, I guess they skipped some steps?) - Evangelise, for your own sake as much as anyone else's - persuading others will help persuade yourself (don't force yourself onto others, though!). And, learn how to let go as easily as you can stay attached. 16 - Love your neighbours. ...I should go read the full article later, this was great stuff. And maybe I'll also go listen to Slipknot, too.
@@noaheadie Thanks very much for the recommendation on where to start! I'm also NB and it sounds like I identify this way for a very similar reason as you do, although my journey here was different.
1-2 weeks before this episode, I sent in an article on How to be a fan of one direction and my name is also Myles. For about 10 seconds I was really excited... Kind of curious if they mixed up my name with someone else since it seems so unlikely that another myles would send in an article on how to be a fan of a band at the same time as me.
"Step Nine: Go to concerts". Everyone knows Slipknot fans need to maintain at least a 6 CPW (concerts per week) or else they take your membership away.
i love how griffin’s closing his eyes at 2:43, like he’s getting lost in his imaginary alternate history where travis went to julliard to study the marimba
I’m laughing so hard right now oh my god 😂 this is so good!! I’m still trying to catch up - I started listening during the pandemic and now I’m on episode 427! So I don’t know what the “cloud wizard” bit is, but, if it’s wikihow articles, IM SO EXCITED LOL. The “riddle me piss” segment is already so good (it’s pretty recent if you’re where I’m at episode wise). Whenever they say “do we have too many segments-“ in the show I’m just like nOO I LOVE THEM. I’d listen to a “only segments” episode. Thank you for the laughs!!!
Between this and that one time on Besties when Justin dropped some knowledge about a super obscure deathcore band from late 00's ABACABB.. having the Mcel-bois talk metal is such a niche pleasure I'm personally having.
"hastily made early aughts christian cgi cartoon about the dangers of halloween" is the most description there's ever been and I hate that I can picture it so clearly
christ why did you edit it like this Im going to stroke out after thirty seconds. us fans on UA-cam are in fact not the same ones that enjoy hyper simplified tiktok clips guys, we just want a clip from the show but with video attached
I guarantee that you don't know what every fan on UA-cam wants from a video edit. For example, I'm also a fan on UA-cam, and I liked it! If I want the original audio, I can go pull up the original audio from the podcast (which, spoiler alert, already underwent an editing pass). And so can you.
it makes more sense when you know the history of the bit. it was originally called wisdom of the crowd but trav and justin kept saying the name wrong as a bit so it changed to wisdom of the cloud and the wizard of the cloud
"Did you see that obedient kid's mask?!" might be my favorite Justin line in a long time!

But DO listen to other metal bands
"listen to Slipknot?" that's what *poseurs* do
It's clearly not an important part of the process.
My favourite slipknot song is "keep your grades up and respect authority" \m/
"REMEMBER TO DO WHATEVER COPS TELL YOU TO! AND YOUR TEACHERS! AND YOUR PARENTS! PRACTICE YOUR FLUTE!" Frickin rock on, man.
I just can't get over how Justin and Griffin record in pretty normal environments and then Travis is coming at you live from a recently divorced English teacher's living room.
Yes 😂
Metal bands, famous for their affection for and obedience to police and authority figures,
🤟

Here to congratulate Travis in his acceptance to Juilliard. We will miss him on his journey to become a Slipknot fan.
Griffins soaring bird laugh never fails to send me

To me that picture reads as "NPC in a RPG video game presenting you with a quest reward, also you modded their clothes away"
“Not a lot of people know this… Hoobastank is actually a Slipknot cover band.”
Most underrated line from MBMBAM maybe ever

Every time Travis says "what's up, danger?" with that exact intonation, a year is added to my life.

Two of Slipknot's classic lineup are deceased and a further two have left the band, it's not an unreasonable concern by this point.
