@@justinn8541akaDrPokemon I feel like his fight with Queen is just an extension and closure of his arc that starts in Whole Cake Island, which is basically "Sanji's relationships with Judge and Sora, respectively, and how those relationships informed his moral compass." Queen is not a new arc for Sanji in and of itself; it's an extension of his relationship to Judge.
I get the feeling that if it wasn't for Zeff and the Baratie, Sanji may have had a mental breakdown at age 11. After, or perhaps during Whole Cake Island, it was probably only thanks to the Straw Hats that he didn't have a breakdown.
There's another possibility on 'keep your feet dry'. Red Leg Zeff was known for being a killer, his boots covered in the blood of his victims. From that standpoint Sanji keeping his feet dry might be Zeff's hope/reminder/wish for Sanji to be a better man than Zeff was. After all, it was being bloodthirsty enough to attack a defenseless passenger ship during a storm that was the doom of Zeff's crew and leg.
It is the first time Zeff calling Sanji by his name (even in manga or anime), he usually called Sanji as little eggplant. So by calling his name for the first time at the farewell causes even more impactful to Sanji and bawled his eyes out.
Many people wonder how Sanji and Zeff got off that rock because the scene ends there haha 😂 In the manga, right after they have this conversation about the All Blue, a ship finally is seen in the distance. Crying, Sanji starts waving and yelling "Hey!! Here!! Please save the old geezer!" Zeff wistfully talks about how wonderful it would be to have a restaurant in the middle of the sea so anyone who is stranded and starving can have this ray of hope. Sanji says "we'll do it, I'll help you, so don't die!" 😢
It was actually the ship that Sanji sighted earlier. One of the crew members thought they heard something in that direction & the ship turned around to check it out.
I love how Sanji and Zeff's relationship gets mirrored in Sanji and Zoro. They look different at first glance, but Sanji show's his affection towards Zoro the same way he shows it to Zeff, and Zoro returns in kind. The two wings of the Straw Hats are the tightest of brothers. Sanji may entrust his life to Luffy, but Sanji only trusts his death to Zoro.
I think a lot of people forget (especially since they don't mention it in the live action), but the whole reason the Baratie even exists is because of what Zeff and Sanji went through. Zeff never wanted anyone to experience going without food for so long on the ocean, so he created an ocean-going restaurant, at which anyone would be welcome.
A bit disappointed it wasn't mentioned at all in the LA. I guess we could still imagine that was the case but in the manga it hit a lot more, Sanji was ready to die to not let Don Krieg damage or steal the restaurant, simply because that was Zeff new dream after he stopped being a pirate.
@@bluelight17 I feel like it'll probably get mentioned later on, especially now Baroque Works will be a two-parter so they have more time for character moments. They might bring forward the reason for Sanji's kicking too, we don't need to wait until Wanze for that.
There was a sweet feeling I couldn't put into words, that Sanji met Zeff as a helpless child that Zeff protected, and then, when Zeff was attacked, his son, now a grown man under his wing, stood up and protected his dad. Zeff and Sanji are the cutest father-son pair I've seen in a while. Two gruff men trying to clumsily look out for each other even if they drive each other up the wall. I think their clashing was the natural symptom of a young man who was ready to leave the nest. Zeff realized that, and Sanji initially didn't, IMO.
This hits even harder if you made it to Whole Cake Island in the manga or anime. We learn a lot more about Sanji’s past & if you thought Sanji’s backstory with Zeff emotionally hurt you, trust me when I say that what happened to Sanji before he met Zeff, it’s even worse.
Life-long One Piece fan here and massive fan of your work, Georgia. I wanted to share with you the meaning of "keep your feet dry" because I think you'll love it. In the Manga, Zeff's pirate nickname is "Red leg Zeff" because his fearsome kicks would stain his boots red in the blood of his enemies. He taught Sanji this style, who's nickname becomes "Black leg Sanji", and I believe that Zeff was basically telling him from experience to "Stay out of trouble, keep the blood off your feet.". It's an incredibly subtle nod to the anime and really shows the love the director had for the die-hard fans as well. Your videos are amazing, and thank you for making content on this incredibly therapeutic show!
That's a nice sweet spin on it but unfortunately not the case. "Keep your feet dry" is just the best available translation because it's a similar saying we have in English. but the original Japanese line is literally "don't catch a cold". It's a protective, caring sentiment that a parent might say. Basically Zeff is saying "take care of yourself, son" 💗 Very sweet!
@@ArtBusinesswithNess Well maybe, but given this is an adaption, they may have deliberately added another layer of meaning. The live action does mention the blood of his enemies too.
There is a single moment when they are dividing the bagged food and Zeff is threatening him not to bother him that little Sanji gets this sad but slightly fearful expression, almost like he's bracing for something, its the tiniest nod to the fans that are in the know about the rest of Sanji's origins. I seriously loved the kid actor for Sanji, he did such a fantastic job and its a shame that if they ever did get to do the rest of the back story he would be too old to play an even younger Sanji.
Sanji's backstory hits even harder in the Live Action. The kid actors really did a great job portraying the emotions in the backstories for such a young age. Zeff eating his own leg was brutal. I can't imagine the trauma that would cause a kid.
Disagree the anime and manga version was better in all ways. Especially Sanji finding out his adopted father trying hard to make him leave for his own good. Zeff Would never admit it unlike LA that he did.
Being "Red-Leg Zeff" and choosing to sacrifice not just his primary means of attack/defense but also the crux of his identity as a person(his feet ARE his weapons after all), to save a child he just met is the essence of the caring person he is underneath all the rough edges, and that's what I love about him and Sanji
One thing you said that stuck to me: "His dream can live on through this other person" That is gonna be a running theme in One Piece. Inherited will. The dreams shared among people, living on through those who share the dreams In the anime and manga, there are several moments where Zeff looks at Sanji with this face of happiness. Zeff is happy to see his son getting a chance to go after his dream. It's the reason Zeff likes Luffy so much. Luffy keeps chasing his dream. Zeff had to give up on chasing his own dream, but as Sanji shared his dream to find the All Blue, he wants Sanji to pay the life debt not by serving under him all his life, but to reach his own dream. Their common dream. And it culminated in Zeff and all the other cooks acting like they hate Sanji's cookings, acting like it's disgusting. All to chase Sanji out of Baratie and into All Blue. And then showing that Sanji was on the other side of a door, hearing what they said as they told Luffy why they claimed it was shit. Sanji, crying as he says to himself "I can hear you, you idiots." I think you'd like one aspect of One Piece. There is a lot of men showing their emotions in a healthy way, crying. And not the Hollywood single sexy tear cry, but straight up bawling their eyes out, snot running through cheecks. Because men can cry. And that is perfectly okay, even necessary at times.
Brining up that Luffy was expecting Zeff to come back at him aggressively definitely comes from his strained relationship with his grandpa. They're similar to Zeff and Sanji in terms of how harsh they can seem to each other but they're also SUPER different. I really love details like that. I'd LOVE to see a video about Garp tbh 😭
"Thank you for putting up with my sh** all these years, old man." Never fails to bring me to tears, as I said something similar to my dad after I first moved out of my parent's place. I wasn't always the best son, and he didn't do a lot of it right either. But he still gave it hell and always put us first. I didn't realize he had been there my entire life thus far, and he never questioned it. First time I saw this scene, I had to call my dad and tell him I love him.
i don't know if you would ever watch sanji's 2nd back story (whole cake island arc) that explains even more how a kid so little could survive isolation so long.. and his line 'why would you do that for a stranger' hits even hard 🥲
SPOILER For real...his biological father abused him and refused to aknowledge his existence, calling him a "failure" over and over again, and yet this total stranger, a pirate, went to such lenghts for him. I love that Sanji said to Judge's face that he is not his father, but Zeff is, and that he didn't want to see his face ever again, like Judge told him all those years ago. (though i have a feeling this is not the last we'll see of Germa, the cover stories are focusing a bit too much on them lately).
@bluelight17 that's true but the germa as a whole is such a human tragedy as awful as they are and how horrible they treated sanji you can't help but pity them because it's literally not their fault because of all the shit judge did before they were even born. And reju deserves a chance at freedom and redemption
When I watched the farewell scene (which is excellent), I thought Zeff, who was known as the pirate of the red-stained boots, telling him to keep his feet dry was his way of telling Sanji to "be good" or "be better than he was".
I think "You keep your feet dry" could also be Zeff's way of saying keep your hands clean. Because when Zeff was a pirate he was known for having the blood of his enemies stain his shoes. And he doesn't want Sanji to become a brutal pirate like he was.
One of the things that was added to the live-action version that I loved was how Sanji and Zeff's relationship was set up in direct comparison and contrast to Luffy and Garp's.
I loved the fact that they trusted the audience with the nuances of Sanji and Zeff's relationship, something that is sadly becoming far too rare, especially for larger productions. Also I'm curious to see how far they explore the concept of 'Inherited Will' going forward in the live action series.
"Keep your feet dry" has a very deep meaning. Zeff was know by the blood on his boots (Red Boot Zeff), so Zeff is telling him to be a better man. This episode stole the show IMO. Even over Nami asking for help and Zoro escaping a well.
I loved Whole cake arc... because I share same pain Sanji gone through... My only Father was/is Abusive and Drunkard, my mother had no time for us... or me and my Big Brother wud be on streets... My Big brother abused me every single day for 10 years of my life... (6-14 years of Age) ranging from Black-Blue beatings, Disgusting Body fluids, Torture, Public humiliation, Emotional brainwashing about me being worthless... When I grew up Adult, I realised... I am Neurodivergent, and Honestly ITs ROUGH being split personality, not being able to control what personality I'm gonna be and How I'm gonna treat friends.. n Family( just mom) Like Sanji I am such a Positive Vibe outside, because If we don't Act Weird, Funny, Tough... we wud go back inside our mind and Feel Flashbacks of our Past, almost like reliving Trauma in Real-time... I really hope someday I'm gonna find my Strawhats.. someone I can trust
@@GeorgiaDow I would highly recommend you to read the manga because this is just the tip of the iceberg and Oda (the author) just keeps upping his game with each backstory (season 2 will have Chopper, we are not ready for it). Plus a small spoiler but we only get to see half of Sanji backstory, the happier half...
I fully agree the most beautiful thing He ever tells him and the one that shows his caring most is "quitting is staying here." it shows how much he cares about Shanji and him having his chance at his dream.
You know, I don't see people really talking about it but the child actors they got for One Piece are pretty good. I can feel the desperation an anger from young sanji and same goes for the other flashbacks of the straw hats
in 12:30 where you said he never in a relationship or know anyone would do that for him, yeah, you are absolutely right the things he went through before he met Zeff was something no child should ever experience at all and the fact that a stranger made him feel like he's worth something says a lot
20:38 I did wounder why he said that to Sanji, but somebody who read the manga answered that question in the comment section of another reactor. Sanji fighting style revolve around kick, because the hands are for cooking. It is reasonable to assume that it is Zeph who taught him how to fight like that. So saying 'keep your feet dry' is a way of saying 'keep out of trouble' for both of them.
When I watched the scene, I thought it was because Zeff was known as the pirate of the red-stained boots. I imagined that him telling him to keep his feet dry was his way of telling Sanji to "be good" or "be better than he was".
It’s worth noting the the original series Zeff tells Sanji “don’t catch cold,” so while it is probably this, I think it might also be that being on a ship like that your bound to get wet (primarily the legs since the deck can collect water) which would increase the odds of him getting sick, so I think he’s also saying “Take care of yourself.” Which is also sweet thing for him to say
@@3redstreeter256 yeah, that's what i thought about as well, just a different way to tell him to stay safe and not get sick, like a parent would when their kid goes away from home.
Zeff told Sanji not to come by unless he sees a ship, but the reason he actually said that was because he didn't want Sanji to see or know that he ate his leg.
The relationships that develop in a restaurant kitchen are so... strange and specific, I have to congratulate the show on capturing that odd mix of competition, ego and cameraderie. I worked as a cook for 9 years, and during service we would bicker, argue, joke around, get frustrated and sometimes even vent violently (on inanimate objects, i.e. kicking a bin in frustration), but at the end of the shift, we would all work together to clean down, chefs clearing and wiping tables if they needed to, to get everyne done at the same time, so we could hang out and relax until the manager was done, and we could all leave together. If anything, and I mean ANYTHING threatened a member of our team, we were all ready to go to war for that person. Never assume that just because the person waiting your table is a minimum wage college student that nobody will care if you're rude and insulting, at a good restaurant the cooks in the back are just as ready to kick you out as anyone else, and they AREN'T being paid to be nice to you.
Zeff's line "Keep your feet dry" might also be a reference to his earlier pirate days, when he was Red-Foot Zeff, and his boots were wet with the blood of his enemies. He wants Sanji to be a pirate that can fight, but not one that attacks other ships and kills people.
Zeff sacrificing his leg has another layer. Zeff was a fearsome fighter who used a kick fighting technique, he is the one that taugh Sanji. So he sacrificed not only maybe his survival, but his way of fighting as well. He gave up his position for a kid that shared his dream, to survive
another thing i love about Sanji and Zeff's relationship it shows the true meaning of the father and son relationship. (in anime we meet Sanji's Biological father and how much of not a father he is compared to Zeff)
Sanji is one of the best written characters in one piece and I'm so glad the Live Action managed to capture the emotion relationship and dreams of both Zeff and sanji
Glad they didn't try to do same sanji's love for women joke More of like suave Not a pervert In anime fine it's funny from time to time In live action it would be just creepy and wierd
One of the reasons Sanji is a simp and perv in the manga/anime is because he would otherwise be too perfect. Not only is he strong and kind, he is clever and often finds a way to help his crew escape or overcome a situation as seen during Little Garden, Alabasta, and Enies Lobby. In my opinion Sanji doesn't even do anything to cross a line until Law switches his mind into Nami's body. He needed to have a flaw and heart eyes and exaggerated simping are ok with me.
@@KyouOneZilla eh those simp moments are just exaggerated trait as a joke though sanji shows he is respects and treats girl kindly without the perv etc..
In the manga, anime and dub for this Netflix show, Zeff actually says "don't catch a cold." Just something I think was cool. The keep your feet dry is just as good as the cold one. Also, I think that the acting was exceptionally good because Zeff and Sanji worked together before.
Hopefully this continues with Season 2 & hopefully onwards. Out of all the characters who’ll be introduced in Season 2, there’s no one else who has more depth than the Demon Child.
You see a lot of perfect parents and horrible parents being portrayed nowadays, no in between. I like the relationship between Sanji and Zeff, because, despite its many flaws, there's love underneath, and it feels very real.
I understand entirely about teasing as affection. I do that myself. The way I see it, if I don't care about someone, it's not worth my time to come up with silly, fun, and creative little jabs like that. There is so much more to Sanji's past that isn't revealed in the series until around 800 or so chapters into the manga (if the live action series runs long enough, I imagine it'll be around season 9 or 10) that really adds even more depth to his character. Stuff like that is why I say you should read the manga or watch the anime and do a separate analysis of each character in that version. A really good analysis here. In the manga we saw a lot more of Sanji growing up with Zeff on Baratie that adds even more depth to Sanji's character and builds even more on the relationship between them. I'm hoping live action season two will show some of that in flashbacks as there's one character trait about Sanji that didn't come up yet in season one but will be relevant in the Alabasta Saga. In the meantime, I can't wait to see your next character analysis. Wonder whether it will be Zoro or Usopp. Also curious whether you're only going to do the Strawhats. I'd kind of like to see analyses of Garp, Coby, Arlong, and Buggy as well (although, in the case of Buggy, most of his character development happens well after what we see in the live action series so far).
Flashbacks are often the butt of the joke in anime, but the author of One Piece uses them so effectively. They always completely change your understanding of previous scenes. Silly random things are suddenly emotional and meaningful, and the conflicts are heightened by new context about the stakes or motivations.
Man, why am I doing this to myself. Here I am, finishing my lunch bawling my eyes out. I love this story. I hope they can keep doing this live action series so that everyone could watch this story I love so much.
The original One Piece manga is my absolute favorite series of fiction. The emotionality of this series is just next level. To me, it's unmatched in that specific quality. The number of times it gets me to cry is kinda mind boggling.
I'm so glad they adapted their relationship as good as it is; in the OG, their relationship is much more slapstick and just barely bordering on abusive, so that wouldn't fly when adapting it to live-action.
Hard to keep your feet dry when 1 of his primary jobs is deepsea diving to save his drowning captain 😅 forgot he was a cook and not a rescue swimmer at 1 point
Oh my goodness, back-to-back-to-back !! You see, this series One Piece had set me on a trajectory. A trajectory that had led me to really, REALLY enjoy the heck out of "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish." I am very happy that you've made video series for the characters in both of these medias of the year.
I was doing so well holding back my tears for most of the video and then your voice broke up at 19:25 and they went full blast, snot and all, lol. Love watching reactions where people show emotion, I'm gonna stick around ♡
Thank you for doing a video on this character. First time watching One Piece (happens to be the live action on Netflix) and this character instantly took my heart. I love Sanji and his relationship with Zeff. I cried like a baby.
Thank you for the video n making me cry at work ! 😭😭 that leg reveal hit me hard the first time and I'm like damn. Holding back tears now. Ugh its such a great story
I would LOVE to see how this analysis changes or expands after watching round 2 of Sanji's backstory of the anime❤ The relationship between Zeff and Sanji gets a new meaning, and even explains a bit little Sanji's way of acting. The way he is so shocked about Zeff's actions and the way he shows barely any fear of dying when he faces him...
I love the characters in this show, I'm so happy to see you analyzing them, it's really interesting to see. Sanji is my favorite, he's just such a good guy. ☺
Without huge spoilers, for those who don't know the reason Sanji is as dedicated to Zeff's teachings (kick based fighting style, the Baratie/feeding those who need food) as he is is because Zeff is literally one of the only two adult figures in Sanji's life who did their due as an adult and showed affection. In turn, Zeff feels a fondness and connection to Sanji for their similar passion, love of food and cooking, and dream of finding All Blue, so he tries to spare Sanji, which very much ties in with One Piece's theme of passing on the torch/inherited will. Speaking of which, the reason Sanji loves cooking as much as he does is tied to both of the loving adult figures in his childhood. To seriously stay tuned to the show if you don't want to check the anime or manga.
I love these analysis videos. And I love how you point out that it’s not exactly what is said but how it’s said. Even in an aggressive tone it’s still done with tenderness. It’s a boundary that is seemingly naturally established between the two. Would love to get a character analysis on Usopp from the anime. I feel he’s one of the deepest characters. Awesome vids!
The apology is very different in the manga/anime, where it has a traditional dogeza of gratitude by Sanji as he is about to leave. It is very impactful in its own right, whereas this one is far more nuanced. I'd love to know how you'd have interpreted some of Sanji's behavior if you knew things about him that are revealed later in the series. Little Eggplant probably has one of the most impactful backstories in the series. Just think about it: why would a kid his age be on his own, serving as a cook in a galley, with parents nowhere in sight? There is history there, and it isn't one that involves roses and sunshine.
I kind of like the way they made it so that Zeff ate his own leg because in the anime he just got it caught in some chains while he was trying to rescue Sanji at the bottom of the sea.
It was eating his leg in the manga, too, which is essentially the original source material, and the chain thing I believe was the anime looking to be more accessible to younger audiences since that part of it was coming out a long time ago. I'm really glad they stuck with the manga's version of it here.
The keep you're feet dry ment to me he doesn't want him to become a killer because when Zeff was a pirate his feet were strained blood and we know Sanji only uses his feet to fight
The layer Sanji's character has is the reason why he's my fave strawhat. I wonder if her view of sanji changes, how it differs, after finding about whole cake arc
Whenever I hear "keep your feet dry" I think about Zeff's moniker "Red Leg" and how his leg was red because his boot was dripping in blood. I think he doesn't really mean "don't get blood on your shoes," because the Japanese expression basically means don't catch a cold. Must say more about me than the story that it's what I think of.
!!!BIG BIG BIG SPOILER ALERT ABOUT SANJI´s EXTENDED BACKSTORY!!! - - FOR ANYBODY WHO DOESN´T READ THE MANGA OR WATCH THE ANIME AND ISN´T ON THE CURRENT STATE OF THE STORY - turn arround! - - - - - Ok, here we go. - Sanji grew up as a failed genetic experiment, and his biological father abused him for not being a perfect child soldier. After Sanji's mom passed away (the only person who truly loved Sanji), Sanji's biological dad put an iron mask on him and abandoned him in a prison cell. One day, Sanji managed to escape from his abusive dad's clutches and met Zeff afterward. Nobody ever sacrificed anything for Sanji or accepted him the way he is until Zeff came and became the dad he never had. Sanji truly appreciates and loves Zeff. Also, when Sanji was a toddler, he used to feed mice, and his biological father really despised that because, in his opinion, strong people should look out for the weak ones.
Wow these examinations are amazing. The Live Action knocked it out of the park conveying the depth, and nuance to these characters, and you are doing so damn great a job picking up on things.
“Keep your feet dry” is such a beautiful moment to me because in the midst of all this cheffy nonsense and performative roughness, that’s an honest piece of advice from a parental figure. If your feet are wet too long you can develop trench foot and all kinds of nasty things, and Sanji’s Black Leg Style requires his feet. So it’s an honest, loving word that lets his guard down and shows his feelings.
Also parallel with Luffy and Sanji in their mentors. Shanks lost his arm protecting Luffy and Chef lost his leg protectjng Sanji. I love One Piece so much. And this adaption is so good.
something to consider: sanji and zeff exclusively fight with kicks in the anime and manga. "red leg" zeff comes from the fact zeff's kicks are lethal and the blood would end up coating his legs and feet. zeff didn't just end his career pirating or give up his dream for sanji, he removed his primary means of threatening anyone. side note, sanji's epithet later on becomes "black leg", for his black suits and his kicks. like father, like son.
In the anime, Zeff and Sanji were a bit more antagonistic against each other. There was a lot more yelling, and Sanji has a short temper especially against Zoro, pretty much the same relationship. But it was still pretty much the same kind of relationship. The live action makes Sanji and Zoro a lot more calm than they are in the anime. When it comes to love languages, anime Sanji has only ever known arguing and shouting, and has picked that up. A lot of people think Zoro and Sanji hate each other because of how antagonistic they are to each other, but no. The two of them have the ultimate respect for each other. Sanji is utilizing the only love language he has ever known, which shows just how much he respects Zoro, and Zoro sees Sanji as his biggest rival and matches the energy that's thrown at him, just like he did with Kuina.
Yes I think their care for each other is shown when they fight and protect each other and one up each other. I think it was pretty nice especially where zoro is enjoying Sanjis food which is his love language for sure
Lifelong One Piece fan: I love your work. This is my first video from you and u definitely have my sub. Sanji is my favorite straw hat because I am like that too. I argue alot with some of the people i love the most and like him i also have my code that i live by. Hes very relatable to me.
seeing Zeff's reaction to Sanji's departure reminded me of my father's reaction when my little sister went to college and no longer lived at my parents' house anymore
Wait, so when you said “when we’re alone, isolated or scared, all our negative thoughts come back to haunt us.” And that happens when we’re alone, or trying to sleep, Is that why people talk about thinking about something stupid we did in our pasts and we cringe when we think about it? 😂😂😂
You know how people will say what their fighting over isn't the real issue? Well with these two it really was about the oregano, in part. Their fights weren't about personalities but about their dreams and what they are doing. They are both passionate about what they are doing. Zeff;s whole thing about criticizing the food is for Sanji to leave and go do it somewhere else. If Sanji left and opened his own place and served the food he dreamed about Zeff would be the first one there.
Nice reviews. Both Nami and Sanji. When i was a pupil at school i watched One Piece alongside with Naruto. I wasn't planning it but probably will reconsider my decision to watch it again as a movie.
In the manga Sanji watched the fight Zoro had with Mihawk, screaming at him to give up. He didn't understand why Zoro would sacrifice his life for his dream and it's a good parallel with Sanji who had sacrificed his dream for Zeff's sake.
And that’s actually one of Sanji’s biggest flaws that make him a great character: he’s too self-sacrificing. He shoulders too much of the burden so the people he cares about don’t have to, & he’s too willing to give up on his dream for other people to achieve theirs.
@@Phanthief95 exactly! While Sanji is one of the strongest fighters in the crew his character arc was never about becoming stronger like Luffy or Zoro but about reconciling his past and acknowledging his self-worthiness. Such a well-written character.

@@bluelight17 It might be mentioned on season 2
@@Phanthief95 I would blame you for putting super powers in my head. But it stays on my head regardless
Thank you so much makes sense
In LA in first scene Zeff appears in the backstory, we see his boots stained in blood, wet with it.
@@ArtBusinesswithNess
Well maybe, but given this is an adaption, they may have deliberately added another layer of meaning.
@@mayaha200 The anime could be debatable but the manga version 100% is better in all ways.
One thing you said that stuck to me: "His dream can live on through this other person"
That is gonna be a running theme in One Piece. Inherited will. The dreams shared among people, living on through those who share the dreams
In the anime and manga, there are several moments where Zeff looks at Sanji with this face of happiness. Sanji, crying as he says to himself "I can hear you, you idiots."
I think you'd like one aspect of One Piece.
Whole cake island broke all of us and reinforced zeff is the only dad he wants in his life
SPOILER
For real...his biological father abused him and refused to aknowledge his existence, calling him a "failure" over and over again, and yet this total stranger, a pirate, went to such lenghts for him. I love that Sanji said to Judge's face that he is not his father, but Zeff is, and that he didn't want to see his face ever again, like Judge told him all those years ago. (though i have a feeling this is not the last we'll see of Germa, the cover stories are focusing a bit too much on them lately).
@@bluelight17yeah we’ll probably see more of germa, especially now they met vegapunk
@bluelight17 that's true but the germa as a whole is such a human tragedy as awful as they are and how horrible they treated sanji you can't help but pity them because it's literally not their fault because of all the shit judge did before they were even born. And reju deserves a chance at freedom and redemption
Don't forget his relationship to women either. It stams entirely from his relationship with the women in his life...
Georgia: “Don’t cut off your leg.”
Also Georgia: “But it do be a real G move doe.”
hahaha
When I watched the farewell scene (which is excellent), I thought Zeff, who was known as the pirate of the red-stained boots, telling him to keep his feet dry was his way of telling Sanji to "be good" or "be better than he was".
The rabbit hole that is Sanji's childhood gets better and worse
I think "You keep your feet dry" could also be Zeff's way of saying keep your hands clean. Because when Zeff was a pirate he was known for having the blood of his enemies stain his shoes. And he doesn't want Sanji to become a brutal pirate like he was.
Oh beautufl yes a perfect nod
One of the things that was added to the live-action version that I loved was how Sanji and Zeff's relationship was set up in direct comparison and contrast to Luffy and Garp's.
The conversation between Zeff and Garp was one of the best additions. Its officially headcanon for me lol
I loved the fact that they trusted the audience with the nuances of Sanji and Zeff's relationship, something that is sadly becoming far too rare, especially for larger productions. Also I'm curious to see how far they explore the concept of 'Inherited Will' going forward in the live action series.
I think Zeff and Nami has the greatest performances of the cast. Zeff really did amazing in these scenes with Sanji
excellent acting
"Keep your feet dry" has a very deep meaning. Zeff was know by the blood on his boots (Red Boot Zeff), so Zeff is telling him to be a better man. This episode stole the show IMO. Even over Nami asking for help and Zoro escaping a well.
Imagining Sanji's full backstory with the live action actors faces hits me even harder😢💔
If they show further backstory for Sanji, it'll be even more important and lovely that he got to have a proper dad.
I loved Whole cake arc... because I share same pain Sanji gone through...
My only Father was/is Abusive and Drunkard, my mother had no time for us... or me and my Big Brother wud be on streets...
My Big brother abused me every single day for 10 years of my life... (6-14 years of Age)
ranging from Black-Blue beatings, Disgusting Body fluids, Torture, Public humiliation, Emotional brainwashing about me being worthless...
When I grew up Adult, I realised... I am Neurodivergent, and Honestly ITs ROUGH being split personality, not being able to control what personality I'm gonna be and How I'm gonna treat friends.. n Family( just mom)
Like Sanji I am such a Positive Vibe outside, because If we don't Act Weird, Funny, Tough... we wud go back inside our mind and Feel Flashbacks of our Past, almost like reliving Trauma in Real-time...
I really hope someday I'm gonna find my Strawhats.. someone I can trust
I think its the first time I see Georgia being on the verge of tears for the majority of her analysis. Its beyond touching!!!
yes I found their story so beautiful
@@GeorgiaDow just wait for Chopper's backstory in season two 😢
@@GeorgiaDow I would highly recommend you to read the manga because this is just the tip of the iceberg and Oda (the author) just keeps upping his game with each backstory (season 2 will have Chopper, we are not ready for it).
Sanji's is the only one I thought did alright. I might be a bit harsh tho
as a sidenote, Zoro's child actor makes me think of the kid from the old Naruto Shuriken shooter toy commercial
The actor is brilliant in Sweet Tooth too.
in 12:30 where you said he never in a relationship or know anyone would do that for him, yeah, you are absolutely right
the things he went through before he met Zeff was something no child should ever experience at all
and the fact that a stranger made him feel like he's worth something says a lot
@@3redstreeter256maybe in anime, in manga he says "keep your feet dry".
Zeff told Sanji not to come by unless he sees a ship, but the reason he actually said that was because he didn't want Sanji to see or know that he ate his leg.
Yes exactly
You go through a lot of things when you're essentially stuck in a room with each other several hours a day, several days a week, lol
Zeff was the first father figure to give Sanji any real kindness. Sanjis "real father" is the absolute worst.
another thing i love about Sanji and Zeff's relationship it shows the true meaning of the father and son relationship. (in anime we meet Sanji's Biological father and how much of not a father he is compared to Zeff)
Sanji is one of the best written characters in one piece and I'm so glad the Live Action managed to capture the emotion relationship and dreams of both Zeff and sanji
Glad they didn't try to do same sanji's love for women joke
More of like suave
Not a pervert
In anime fine it's funny from time to time
In live action it would be just creepy and wierd
One of the reasons Sanji is a simp and perv in the manga/anime is because he would otherwise be too perfect. Not only is he strong and kind, he is clever and often finds a way to help his crew escape or overcome a situation as seen during Little Garden, Alabasta, and Enies Lobby. In my opinion Sanji doesn't even do anything to cross a line until Law switches his mind into Nami's body. He needed to have a flaw and heart eyes and exaggerated simping are ok with me.
@@KyouOneZilla eh those simp moments are just exaggerated trait as a joke though
sanji shows he is respects and treats girl kindly without the perv etc..
The most realistic father-son relationship I've ever seen
So much so that Sanji sees Zeff more as his father than his actual father.
It's always so awesome that in One Piece, there is no man that is "too cool" to shed tears
Has Minhawk ever cried? (I'm catching up and I'm in Punk Hazard arc)
@@Xharalyno. Or if he did was offscreen 😉 ah I wish I was back at punk hazard. Enjoy.
"Father and son" the best words to define the Sanji-Zeff relationship.
In the manga, anime and dub for this Netflix show, Zeff actually says "don't catch a cold." Just something I think was cool. The keep your feet dry is just as good as the cold one. Also, I think that the acting was exceptionally good because Zeff and Sanji worked together before.
You're killing it in that suit!
Read my mind !
You really are. ❤
I love your commitment to cosplaying the characters for each of their analysis!
Thanks !!
nothing makes me more happy then knowing that this show succeeded in getting it's depth of characters through.
Trust me when I say this, there are a lot of horrible parents in One Piece.
This also applies to Sanji, & I’m not talking about Zeff.
I LOVE love all the cosplay outfits you use/have!
So on point and dope af
Read my mind
Sanji is a dope one piece character happy to see you analyzing him.
Flashbacks are often the butt of the joke in anime, but the author of One Piece uses them so effectively. They always completely change your understanding of previous scenes. Silly random things are suddenly emotional and meaningful, and the conflicts are heightened by new context about the stakes or motivations.
Sometimes they are in One Piece. One example is Buggy’s flashback with Shanks that explains how he got his Devil Fruit.
Man, why am I doing this to myself. Here I am, finishing my lunch bawling my eyes out. I love this story. I hope they can keep doing this live action series so that everyone could watch this story I love so much.
15:28 I love what the filmmakers did here panning over to Luffy after Sanji's line about about someone losing a limb for you.
The original One Piece manga is my absolute favorite series of fiction. The emotionality of this series is just next level. To me, it's unmatched in that specific quality. The number of times it gets me to cry is kinda mind boggling.
Sanji and Zeff are by far my favourite, their backstory is so beautiful and they're so funny about the whole thing too
I'm so glad they adapted their relationship as good as it is; in the OG, their relationship is much more slapstick and just barely bordering on abusive, so that wouldn't fly when adapting it to live-action.
Sanji and Zeff are the definition of "tough love" and the live action portrayed that perfectly.
Hard to keep your feet dry when 1 of his primary jobs is deepsea diving to save his drowning captain 😅 forgot he was a cook and not a rescue swimmer at 1 point
I find it so tough when she goes "alright gorgia dont start to cry now 😢😤"
Because that makes ME want to cry 😂
Again im like " GOD DAMMIT IMMA CRY NOW 😭 "
Would love to see one on Garp. You do wonderful breakdowns too.
thank you i just may
One on Garp without knowing his character up to the Summit War, which is like 500 episodes ahead wouldn't give him justice.
As someone who grew up with tough love i understood their relationship from the get go.
Watching Georgia get choked up over emotional scenes is always so heartwarming.😢
Dammit. Even tho it's a review, that goodbye still made me tear up.

Thank you for the video n making me cry at work ! 😭😭 that leg reveal hit me hard the first time and I'm like damn. Holding back tears now. Ugh its such a great story
yes so touching
I would LOVE to see how this analysis changes or expands after watching round 2 of Sanji's backstory of the anime❤ The relationship between Zeff and Sanji gets a new meaning, and even explains a bit little Sanji's way of acting. The way he is so shocked about Zeff's actions and the way he shows barely any fear of dying when he faces him...
I love the characters in this show, I'm so happy to see you analyzing them, it's really interesting to see. Sanji is my favorite, he's just such a good guy. ☺
Wow, I love these One Piece analyses! Your videos are so insightful and easy to think along at the same time.
Glad you like them!
Your sanji cosplay is great. Cooking video when. Their relationship is great one of my favorites I think the love action did a great job.
thank you = ) more to come
The apology is very different in the manga/anime, where it has a traditional dogeza of gratitude by Sanji as he is about to leave.
I'd really love to also see an analysis of Coby too. He kinda feels like a main character in live action.
Sanji is definitely one of the best written character in One Piece
I kind of like the way they made it so that Zeff ate his own leg because in the anime he just got it caught in some chains while he was trying to rescue Sanji at the bottom of the sea.
i knew he rescued him !!!! this was more beautiful
It was eating his leg in the manga, too, which is essentially the original source material, and the chain thing I believe was the anime looking to be more accessible to younger audiences since that part of it was coming out a long time ago. I'm really glad they stuck with the manga's version of it here.
@@MalkuthSephira oh ok that makes sense I never thought that the manga would be different to the anime
Shout out to the cosplay, haven't seen a UA-camr do Sanji before.
thank you = )) happy you noticed it
Whenever I hear "keep your feet dry" I think about Zeff's moniker "Red Leg" and how his leg was red because his boot was dripping in blood. I think he doesn't really mean "don't get blood on your shoes," because the Japanese expression basically means don't catch a cold. Must say more about me than the story that it's what I think of.

Sanji grew up as a failed genetic experiment, and his biological father abused him for not being a perfect child soldier.
So it’s an honest, loving word that lets his guard down and shows his feelings.
there are so many moments in the manga and anime where Sanji refers to Zeff as his Father.
aww that makes me tear up
Love your videos, glad you’re delving into one piece!
its a fun one
Stop making me cry every video DAMN
Hehe sorry
Also parallel with Luffy and Sanji in their mentors. Shanks lost his arm protecting Luffy and Chef lost his leg protectjng Sanji. I love One Piece so much. And this adaption is so good.
I haven't watched the anime yet but the live action really got me hooked, very unexpectedly.
I'm hoping she will do a series on Balder's Gate 3. I want to see videos on on Astarion and Karlach, Lae'zel, shadowheart, Gale, and Minthara
something to consider:
sanji and zeff exclusively fight with kicks in the anime and manga.
Very curious to see what you pull out of Usopp, because he's more of a slow burn character that hasn't come fully into focus yet as of season 1
If Sanji left and opened his own place and served the food he dreamed about Zeff would be the first one there.
thank you = ) I am happy it made you feel
