Laker fan here, wow San Antonio has been blessed with big man as long as I can remember, from David Robinson to Tim Duncan and now Wemby not to mention mr marathon man himself a legendary hall of fame coach Greg Popovich! The truth is if spurs want to win a championship you need to surround him with players who can and will support him cuz what I’m seeing right now that what you have around him is not cutting it!

Blocks (alongside steals) is one of the two most difficult stat to pump up, result why quadruples and quintuples don't happen. Now seeing him getting 8 blocks nearing a 10, if he gets more minutes and more assists, we might get a quadruples in his career and make him a legend among legends. Quadruples need to happen at this point of NBA narrative :D

The SAS play reasonable basketball but they have a hard time keeping the fort in the 4th quarter. We had hoped that they would have been able to keep the advantage going into the 4th, but again the same result as previous games.

Spurs has no power game. Depend too heavily on finesse shots that look nice at the start of game but turn into bricks when the pressure cranks up in the 4th Qtr.
Once Wemby muscle up in a couple of years, he might dominate the post and get your guaranteed points under pressure. As it is right now, he's just a very tall jump shooter, and an erratic one.

@@Zett76 Yes, an amazing 8 blocks, yet there are meaningful blocks and there are less meaningful ones. Most of his blocks end up giving back possession to the other team for another 14 seconds. The team around him need to recognise his block threat and get those loose balls. He will learn to not just to block those shots but towards his team mates. Yes it's a tall ask, but good shot blockers do that.
These are all ifs, that we hope he can grow into to become the great player we hope he is. But even if he does not, he'll still be a good player.

@@sleepyheadz agreed, but blocking still gives you a chance to turn the game around by reducing the amount of shots made. But yeah hopefully wemby makes his blocks more meaningful. That would make spurs a stronger team.

Well .. i guess this season spurs are letting guys play and Wemby adapt to nba because it is the first time that i see a chaotic gameplay whit Popovich on the bench.

I was watching this game almost all the way through, but Spurs need a point guard badly, especially a veteran one, and experience.
Sochan is not a point guard, and it looked for the good amount, Wemby was relying on jump shots rather than trying to take it down low for a high percentage shot when he's 7'4".
Even if the tail end, Kyle Lowry could be an asset, and heck, why not bring in John Wall or at least tried to get Kemba Walker, who knows how to play that position. A little concerned with Spurs trying to tank, and the direction that they want to take.

You are right about the point guard. I think Pop is trying to test Wemby so the team can be built around him in the future. Tanking is a viable strategy, the team is young, they are not and will not be a championship team. In order to become a championship team they need to build a cohesive, long term roster around their 19 year old.
I would say Pop knows exactly what he is doing. He is playing the long game and focused more on giving Wemby valuable experience with his first year in the nba rather than overwhelming the teen with pressure to win. The kid already has enough pressure as it is.
Spurs issue is that none of their players know how to pass the ball to Wemby in the paint. Whats crazy... is Wemby shows them how to do it. Spurs need a veteran point guard and shooting guards. Wemby should avg 25+pts a game if they new how to throw him the ball in the paint. Issue is... these new players want to shine by shooting 3's and forgot about the center and power forwards in the paint. That's what Spurs main issue is.

You cant do that in today's nba. Voluntarily switching to avoid defending the three ball will WORSEN the defense since there is a communication lag time that most sharpshooters can exploit.

I see so many highlights where players are shooting threes and no one is on them or the attempt to guard them is very feeble.Are the defenders instructed not to guard the three point shots.Something is not right and it's hurting the game.

Look at it that way: there's a reason why San Antonio got the first draft pick last year. And a generational talent - as a rookie - is not enough to change the fact that they're still not a good team. It's the same with Cade Cunningham. He's definitely a good player on a bad team.

Probably lied, Spurs are young team and won't want hear old Popovich slamming them and say they suck hard. Also Pop told the truth, they have good team in couple of years. If they get another great pick next summer,who knows If we are looking another Spurs dynasty starting. In North American leagues, because of draft style there is only 2options. 1content for ring 2 suck and suck very much. Spurs been doing that greatly past 25years. I expect Spurs to be in contention in couple years,suck until then. Develop the young guys and accumulate more great talent trough draft. Maybe Spurs will go after some players too in future. If Spurs is still in same hands than before they should be just fine.
