I'm proud to say I co-wrote Heart of the City with Dean McTaggart, and the refrain goes: In the heart of the city In the heat of the night Things get electric They build up inside Those are the actual lyrics, folks. They were written by Dean, after he and I roughed out the tune at the Arrows' Toronto rehearsal space, back in '85. That was a fun year. I also co- wrote a bunch of singles with Zappacosta, including Turn It On, I Think About You and When I Fall In Love Again. Good, good times.
Thanks to you and Dean for getting this song out there. What a great tune! One of my favourite songs! When I Fall in Love Again...another great tune. You got some serious talent man....Props!
Huge fan. Years ago, I couldn't get a cd of their greatest hits anywhere! Found a blog where someone had Dean McTaggert's email and they said just to email and ask where I could find one. I did - got a reply in 5 min. He said if I bought a copy of his new music, he'd send me a burned copy of the greatest hits for free. Done and done! Was super nice of him! The Arrows (and the Spoons) were the best Canadian 80s bands. We had some really good 80s music - so underrated.
I was in The Arrows music video... In the Heart of the City back in 1986.. it was grand in Toronto, ON.. trying to reach Dean .. I am a T.V. producer/hostess of my 14 years of my T.V. Show, "Patty's Page,"
I equate "the city" in this song with the Christmas season, which my family and I don't treat as having truly started until Advent begins. So on December 1st, 2024, I say, Happy Advent to all who celebrate or observe; it's always great to be back in this city! 😊
I saw The Arrows back in 1986 at Barrymore's in Ottawa. The best small venue gig I have ever seen. The Arrows never got the respect they deserved. Thanks for the memories.
I am in the Arrows video Heart of the city the blonde in the left hand corner the late sax player Earl Semore put me in this video and i enjoyed every moment and am glad it was uploaded to UA-cam!!!
Canadian music in the 80s was so rich with talent Doug and the slugs, loverboy, harlequin and this long forgotten and talented band who had the great vocal talents of Dean McTaggart whatever happened to this band love to see what you're all doing now
80s the Best decade of AOR, Westcoast, Melodichardrock, Hi-tech AOR, Melodichardrock, Hairmetal, Pop&NewWave, Soul, Funky, Jazzfunk, great Soundtracks era 👍👍👍🎸🎸🎸
80s the Best decade of AOR, Westcoast, Hi-tech, Melodichardrock, Hairmetal, Pop&NewWave, Funky, Soul, Jazzfunk, Top Movies, great Soundtracks era👍👍👍🎸🎸🎸
ONE PERSONA OPINION...DONT CARE FOR IT...MEET ME IN THE MIDDLE AND EASYSTREET...MUCH BETTER...I DONT THINK THEY EVEN NEEDED THE BITCHES BACK THERE IN VOCALS, CERTAINLY NOT FOR JUST SHAKING THEIR ASSES, WHAT A JOKE...
Earl Seymour played on a recording of mine. He was able to ad lib some brilliant soprano sax parts after only hearing the song once. A true genius and a gentleman!
THE ARROWS have some of Toronto's FINEST Musicians, although Many are from All OVER THE PLANET! The Sax Player EARL SEYMOUR has played with Many Artists including HEWEY LEWIS & THE NEWS. THE ARROWS had a 'Second SECRET Name', BTW... They were often playing around as THE LINCOLNS when they could not feature They Awesome Vocalist, DEAN McTAGGERT (Sp?), I recall. Hopefully, THE ARROWS will Return as SWINGIN' Upbeat BIG BAND Music is Still SO VALUED! UME released THE ARROWS' Album on CD after realizing that They OWNED IT... It's AVAILABLE via ORDER, as when Polygram and A&M merged, THE ARROWS were Not out on CD... and their Albums were not Internationally Available. Apparently, the Band was able to arrange to Release a GREAT COMPILATION with UME's (UMG in Canada) support. I did get a Copy, myself, and it's WELL DONE! Thank You for supporting Talent and Valuing Artists' Work, and for allowing and Reading my "long-winded" comment, Too! It's Appreciated. TRULY! ❤
This was our anthem way back in the '80s. Also this: God save our gracious queen, long live our noble queen God save our queen Send her victorious, happy and glorious Long to reign o'er us God save our queen. What may seem strange and incongruous to you is a very happy memory to me.
I'm assuming your dad was Earl....I saw the band back in 86 in Kitchener Ontario....The band was fantastic, but your father was amazing.....Kept waiting for a mistake....Joke was on me though...He never missed a beat.....MEMORIES!!!!! We lost a great one
their two albums are among AOR fans top albums of all time.their sound was awesome... hi tech AOR with a great production... and fantastic arrangements.... keys sax and hard edged guitars all competing in the mix.....I recall I had to order "The Lines Are Open " from HMV in Canada Toronto..boy was I dedicated to this band!! Ive yet to hear the first EP they had out..with 4 tracks on on it..its nowhere online.... can anyone point me to it?? cheers..Neil from Liverpool UK
I had such a hard time finding this song! I called radio stations, checked playlists, called people that might know, I loved this song, and finally gave up, although people thought it sounded familiar. I finally found it on my own playlist!! So happy now and calling radio stations to let them know! LOVE THIS SONG!!
Yeah, even a good vinyl rip to digital is better than absolutely nothing. Old bands should put the stuff on the streaming sites because there’s always somebody that the stuff meant something to them and they consider the music a very important part of their life.
@karmah65 Earl seymour is my uncle :) man its crazy to see him with his 80s hair lol....he was a super great guy. I still have an old LP of theirs signed by the whole band somewhere...
Did this band ever achieve any fame in the US at all? I only know them from hearing this song on Night Heat. Now that I've heard it here I LOVE it to death! :)
@sw33t714 wow thats tragic sw,hope your doing ok .Earl was very well liked and had tons of friends,Someone should put a video together or a site dedicated to him, love to see more of his stuff as im sure others would ..he really deserves it .

Thanks to you and Dean for getting this song out there. What a great tune! One of my favourite songs! When I Fall in Love Again...another great tune. You got some serious talent man....Props!
