    Thank you, Gary for another incredibly useful tip. I have been wanting to link notes to notes because I have scattered similar information across multiple notes. When I did not remember I already had a note in a particular subject. Rather than taking the time to consolidate the notes, I’m going to use your technique to collaborate with myself. This is brilliant! Also, as a sidenote: when I am in Safari and collaborating with others, on a social app, I find the command K and the command V is very useful, and allows me to highlight a sentence or part of it and take the other user right to the link that I intended. Thank you for everything! Your extensive knowledge benefits me every time!

    Notes, limited as it has been, is my most used Mac app. Currently around 400 and an instantly available reference on all my devices. It’s my store of thoughts, to-dos, lyrics, essays and plans. Once a Note has outgrown its app it becomes a Pages or CAD document or whatever suits. My iCloud Notes is pretty much the breeding ground for my creativity and the reason is simplicity of use and access.

    Thank you so much for this! Whenever I mark up pdfs in Notes, iCloud never syncs and loses all my markup. Pretty much renders pdf markup useless in Notes. I was looking for a way to add a link to the original file in a note so I can just mark it up directly in the Files app and you're the only person I've found that has a solution for this!!! Also, clicking on the link in the Notes app on the iPad directly opens up the pdf in the Files app! So happy I found this video, thank you!!

    Interesting. I hope with Sonoma's native Note Link feature that it's a sign Apple plans to expand it to other documents as you showed. That way it is built-in system wide and not so much a trick. I think it'd promote Pages more, which would be nice. And it would enhance people's workflows with more options. Thanks for sharing.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Рік тому

      Depends on what you mean. Do you mean a link where you click on some text and it takes you to another sheet? Or do you mean a link where you can use values from one sheet in another. You can do both right now.

    • @60beats44
      @60beats44 Рік тому

      @@macmost Thank you Gary, I meant the latter scenario. As far as I can see, it is not possible to link a cell value of one 'Numbers' spreadsheet with another cell in another 'Numbers' spreadsheet, something I used to do when I was still living in the 'Windows world'. I know that this is possible if the cells are on the same spreadsheet file. Having totally transitioned from 'Excel' to 'Numbers' now, I don't know if the Apple 'Excel' version would allow this function? Thanks as always, for responding to rather complex scenarios that I occasionally come across in my 'Apple discovery journey'.

      @@macmost Thanks Gary, Yes I meant different documents/files. At times difficult for me to describe things accurately. I have just downloaded the free Mac version of 'Only Office' and created to seperate files for experimentation purposes. And the copy cell content between these 2 files works. So hopefully, Apple will make some advancements in this area and I might just have to abandon 'Numbers' for the time being. Thanks again for responding.

I also use this link to organize and utilize notes, files, etc. I'm curious if this link has an expiration date set like the Photos app's shared albums, where it expires after 30 days. It's frustrating to think that the organized links will disappear after 30 days. Do you know a way to create a permanent link? Thank you.

    Is there an updated version of this video for Sonoma? Has any better method become available through Sonoma for linking to live iCloud documents in a Note? I know you can drag and drop a document onto a note but it saves an archive version of it there in it's state at that time so if you edit the original document later you won't see those edits when you open that embedded version from the note.

    I run a public burial ground and use a Numbers sheet as a 'map' showing each grave. A cell represents a grave and contains various bits of data referring to legal documents which I have scanned as PDFs. I really want to link each piece of text in each cell to the relevant PDF so that I can find the information I need quickly. Is this possible using this method or is there a better way?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  10 місяців тому +1

      This is good for a few links, but it sounds like you have a lot. I would just use a good naming system. Have a folder for each grave and name it with whatever designation you use for each one.

      Well, I might argue that Notes wasn’t originally created to be a text editor. That’s what TextEdit is for - although TextEdit doesn’t have Markdown functionality either!! I’ve always treated Notes like a memo pad and not a place where I would do long form writing necessarily. Having said that, though, I think Markdown functionality in Notes would be a cool feature and I could see how many people would like that.🙂
