  • The carburetors are back on the Austin Healey 3000 after cleaning, getting new gaskets and new jets. After putting in fresh fuel we get it running so that it can be test driven

My friend’s MGB has dual SUs that kept acting up. After disassembling and cleaning, they still acted up. He finally found that the fuel line between them was partially clogged

Yeah, that can happen. Also, the line between them can deteriorate, letting bits of rubber get stuck in the needle and seat on the rear carb, and make it overflow.

@@mgbgtguy Good to know. I’ll bet that’s caused by ethanol gas

Pity you did not describe exactly what setting you put the jet down. Normally between 0.06 & 0.08 down from the bridge. But also in the last 50 years someone may well have put the wrong needle in the carbs. In your previous video when you were assembling the carbs, you never mentioned checking it had the right needles. The SU book for the engine and HD8’s suggests UL for weak, UH for standard, UN for rich. But in fact all 0.125 needles are the same at the idle end, it is just the amount of taper lower down the needle that gives the variation in richness.
