I wouldn’t say “Mirror” is an overall tragic song. The whole point of the album that he reiterates over and over is that he ideally wants his listener to be happy for him, to be happy that he wants to grow as a person. However it’s mentioned throughout that he’s realized it’s unrealistic to expect this, so going with brute honesty and an attitude of “hey, I’m just going to do me, I’m sorry but that’s how it is now”, may actually work better. Kendrick is inviting the listener to view him as an artist through an unconditional lens, rather than conditional on what kind of album he brings out. This is what true love is as mentioned - it’s unconditional. Though the line sounds apologetic, it’s simultaneously unapologetic because of the overall up beat vibe of the song - he’s sorry but not sorry, he’s got to put himself first. The “I chose me I’m sorry” - that’s down on the listener to be happy that he’s choosing this path. Basically, he invites the listener to join him in being part of the journey. He’s holding up the mirror to the listener for them to question their relationship with his music, him as an artist and as a human being. Are we here to just consume, ready to throw away an artist conditional on if we like what they have to say. Or, can we step back and appreciate an artist also as a flawed human being. It’s the age old saying that you have to put yourself first sometimes to be there at all for other people. Everything starts from the self, otherwise a person isn’t able to help others.

Thanks for reminding me....that this album should be re-released as an instrumentals album..if anything, for that Savior interlude with those Spike Lee joint scores behind Keem. Seriously though, this album helped get me through college this last time around.
Wow, you’re really good and breaking this album down. I hated how the initial discourse went. I didn’t listen to it all the way when it first dropped bc it just felt way to overwhelming to listen and join the 2 week long convo. So I didn’t, and waited. A while. It just feels nice to hear what he was saying bc it’s a heavy album, it shouldn’t have been consumed that quickly.
I think of this album as pent up anger. in the first disk he's trying to get it out but can't and realizes the only way he can let go of this anger is to find love in himself amd forgive those he's most angry at (himself and the world) and he then realizes the only way he can do that is to forgive how God does (something must die either metaphorically or literally) so he metaphorically kills himself (or takes off the mask kills this "savior in him") and is now letting the world know how angry he is, we commonly think we need to take out our anger to get rid of it but truthfully we don't we just need to let someone know how angry we are to get rid of it and now he's doing that which will allow him to forgive the world allowing him to find peace and love

Im a diehard fan of kendrick, when this album first came out i liked it, but could never pick up on the meaning of it, tpab was about the comunity, damn was about wickedness and weakness, but mm&bs? That's the kind of album u appreciate more and more the more u listen to it. Your videos are a great help cause now you're adding contextual visualization. Anyways i really appreciate your work. Your videos alone could turn a lot of ppl into kendrick fans🫡

Wow, amazing
Thanks for this
Man this is a great think tank channel.
Thanks for reminding me....that this album should be re-released as an instrumentals album..if anything, for that Savior interlude with those Spike Lee joint scores behind Keem. Seriously though, this album helped get me through college this last time around.
Love this video
Great analysis
Fire!
Why this video so good?🔥
Amazing video I wish this had millions of views
Wow, you’re really good and breaking this album down. I hated how the initial discourse went. I didn’t listen to it all the way when it first dropped bc it just felt way to overwhelming to listen and join the 2 week long convo. So I didn’t, and waited. A while. It just feels nice to hear what he was saying bc it’s a heavy album, it shouldn’t have been consumed that quickly.
It’s wild that some artists/rappers can have this much depth and some just don’t.
THE CAT IS OUT THE BAG 💜🤞🏾🙏🏾
