@VELLE BUE ANIMATION yes her unforced errors went up and up and her serving was poor, but why should she dissect her own game in public? What would she gain from that? Do you think it is possible she will look at her performance in her own time and with her coach to work out ways to improve or do you think she will ignore this match as just another loss and move aimlessly on. Perhaps the clue is when she says she is a professional tennis player, part of which is developing the personal qualities to deal with a requirement that she go before the press after every match. Speaking in public is known to be THE most anxiety provoking experience in the general public. Would you be able to speak publicly about yourself after a bad day at work, a day in which you knew your every move and gesture was being examined in slow motion and commented upon? Would you not want to to do everything you can to cut out mistakes. Would you not want to succeed and feel aggrieved if someone used words like presumably to describe your lifetimes ambition? I think the reporter initially made a valid point--that perhaps Konta's mental strength (or lack thereof) had a bigger part to play in the match outcome than her opponent's play--and Konta responded with an equally valid response. She said she stood by her decisions and her play, and that people can choose to agree or disagree with that answer. That's where the line of questioning should have ended. She gave the reporter her assessment of the match and reaffirmed it...but because he disagreed with it, then tried to patronize her into, basically, admitting that she chocked. Just because you don't agree with a player's perspective of events, doesn't give you the license to keep prodding them to validate your perspective. The reporter should've just agreed to disagree, and move on. It's her career. Kudos to Konta for calling him out.

Older tennis players (Serena/Federer/Nadal/Djokovic) seem to be dominating the game, suggesting a lot of young (but well paid) mediocrity coming through. But at the end of the day Tennis players/golfers livelihoods hang on their own performances, so I'm pretty sure they're more critical of their own performances than any journalist can articulate, so I find this kind of press conference pointless. When are we going to get footballers under the spotlight instead of allowing them to hide behind the rest of the team & let the manager face the music? That's what I want to see.

Absolutely, but it also shows the lack of skill from the press at Wimbledon. If you watch the interview Andy Murray and Serena Williams did after their second match. In fact in their next interview, the pair embarrass the press by highlighting it.

    Sick!!!!
She's world number 19, can get to the latter stages of the slams, has a really good game and can only get better, she is only 28!!!! Federer is 37, Serena Williams is 37. There are a number of other players in their mid thirties and still competing for slams.
Sports journalists were giving Andy Murray a hard time for years before he won the US Open.
Some sports journalists think they can serve as a motivational tool simply because they're unable to articulate what they actually see on the tennis court.

Anyone who plays tennis knows that she bottled it, just like she did at the French. That type of situation will have happened to pretty much everyone who has played tennis at one stage or another. The concern for Konta is that it keeps happening to her. In her recent defeats she has begun matches relaxed and has looked comfortably better than her opponents, but then the pressure builds towards the end of sets and her unforced errors sky rocket. Happened to her in the French semis, also in the Wimbledon match before this one (she was fortunate that her opponent was also making lots of unforced errors) and it happened to her in this quarter final defeat when her forehand broke down. She seems to realise that it's an issue as she has regularly used sports psychologists but it's still the biggest flaw in her game. It's a shame as her level of play has been incredible recently, until these moments when the pressure has clearly got to her and her game crumbles.

The journalist was a wanker..konta is playing great tennis but today she came up against a great grass court player who has the slice and topspin off both wings and served much better then konta. No 1 died, she has already done alot on a tennis court that most will never achieve

I've been looking for Barbora's press conference on UA-cam. Wimbledon don't seem to care enough about her (even though she's a semi-finalist) to upload it on their channel. Does anyone know where I can find it?
