The lead singer (Sonny Geraci, R.I.P.) also fronted the early 70's band Climax, who had a top hit in "Precious and Few" Gotta check that one out!
Yes. Nice vocal.
YES, reminds me of my late Uncle Steven. He would sing this. Please react to it.
Yay, another bit of trivia to add to my knowledge base. Thank you!
Wow, never knew the two had a connection, Love both songs, Thank You.
@@garyarnett1220
Yes I'm a born and raised Texan but for 1 year I lived in Ohio. I took a Jr. college course and the teacher knew the lead singer and asked if any knew that song. Only a few of raised our hands.
To this day I mostly just listen to 60’s and 70’s….nothing beats those decades imo 🔥👍🏻
all I listen to..........music from that time is timeless. Went to high school in early 70's..a 74 graduate. Can't imagine in 74 listening to music in 24...but lots of teenagers today like the music if my era. Just better music.
Me too. I'm a '71 grad.
Early 70s.
@@Littlebigbot me too ! Graduated in 71. What a great time it was for music 🎵
I agree, 73 graduate.🎉
Another horn-driven band, Buckinghams: "Don't You Care", "Hey Baby (They're Playing Our Song)", "Kind of a Drag".
Buckinghams "Mercy Mercy Mercy" 1967 also worth a listen
Check out the band from Russia- Leonid and Friends.Just started the spring 24 tour.horn covers by Chicago, the original BST,EWF,Ides of March.Plus a great show.
Try the Vogues “5 o'clock world” Awesome song!!!!
Yes I automatically think of The Drew Carey Show 🤣🤣
Or "You're the one" as well
@@elizabethfranco1284Same😂
@@MrTRFord Yes, another excellent choice!!!!
1,000 👍's. They would love it.
60s was such a revolutionary decade in every way including music
Another 60s band you need to check out is Spanky & Our Gang-Lazy Day, Like To Get to Know You or sunday will Never Be the Same. Unfortunately for the Outsiders this song overshadowed everything they did. they had one other chart single Girl In Love but that was it-they couldn't repeat the magic of Time won't Let Me.
And Sunday Morning
"Precious and Few, same lead singer, but with the group Climax.
I loved girl in love. It’s one of my surviving 45’s
A parallel to that in the drama industry would be an actor being typecast after a famous role.
Great suggestion, "Like To Get To Know You" is one of the sweetest, dreamiest pop tunes from the '60s. Loved Elaine (Spanky) McFarlane's vocal.
Speaking of the 60's you need to react to The Cowsills with "The Rain, The Park and Other Things"! It is right up Amber's alley!!
I'll second that recommendation!
Yes the studio version 😊
I hope one day they put on their long hair wigs they wore for Halloween one time and react to the song "Hair" by the Cowsills. That would be perfect.
@@57doodoo Yes! They should dress up and do a psychedelic hippie song every year on the anniversary of Woodstock - 15 - 18 August!
"The Rain, The Park and Other Things" is still one of my favorite memories from the 60s. I believe the strange title of the song still throws some people off. I heard an interview with Bob Cowsill who mentioned they wanted to call the song "The Flower Girl", but the record company thought listeners would then confuse the song with Scott Mckenzie's "San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)" . The odd song title didn't prevent "The Rain, The Park.." from becoming a huge '67 hit, however. NOTE TO JAY & AMBER: There is a sub-par re-recorded version of "The Rain, The Park..." and various live versions available on You Tube. Please find a way to avoid these.
This was the 1st 45 record I ever bought along with Secret Agent Man by Johnny Rivers. I was about 6 or 7 years old. Need to do Secret Agent Man next
For a similar American rock sound, it'd be good for you to revisit The Young Rascals. Either "It's a Beautiful Morning" or "People Got to be Free". Both are upbeat, energizing, day brighteners. Do yourself a favor and listen to one of these before work.
I often listen to “ It’s a beautiful morning “ first thing with my coffee. Uplifting and a favorite
Bend me shape me another excellent song
By the American Breed
Oh, YEAH! Fronted by the late manager of Styx.
Yes ! Needed that. "Time Won't Let Me" , one of the greatest hit singles from the swingin' 60s. Dance floor packer ! The amazing singer Sonny Geraci also sang "Precious and Few" with Climax in early 70s.
Ah! Had no idea he sang Precious and Few!
And that is such a testimony to his talent, with both songs being totally the opposite!
Still another band that you did once but need to do more of is Paul Revere & the Raiders-their 60s hits-Don't Take It so Hard, steppin Out, Hungry, Kicks and too Much Talk.
Agreed! America”s response to the British Invasion!!! I vote for “Hungry” and “Kicks”. Great tunes, just like this one!
Raiders' "Good Thing".
Oh my word! What a flashback from the past! I'm 73 and remember this song like it was yesterday.. Thank you so much and we love you guys and your channel!
Yup. Remember this well!
I'm quite proud to have been born when I was. They can't take the 60s and 70s away from me.
I’m not far behind you, Suzanne. 😊
Great tune, I haven't heard this song in forever. Here's a suggestion if you haven't already done it, "Bang a Gong" by T-Rex 🦖.
I saw the Outsiders in 1966 when they were on tour with Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Lou Christie. The concert was mind blowing, and the Outsiders sounded live and as good as this recording. Sonny's voice was so powerful, clear, and pitch-perfect. An incredible showman. Heartbroken that he passed away in 2017 but I have his albums to cherish. Rest in peace.
Lead singer Sonny Geraci later was in the band Climax who had an even bigger hit with "Precious and Few." I'm not sure if you've reacted to that. If you haven't, please do.
Climax has a couple of songs Amber would love.
Wow, haven’t heard this in years. Thanks so much for playing!!
OH YEAH !! The subscriber who sent in the request should have prefaced it with "first - PUMP UP the VOLUME !!" This was the best song of my teen years - growing up a bit east of Cleveland. That guitar solo in the middle of the song is the first heavy metal I can recall hearing. Also, if we can I believe my buddies, you have seen that drummer before. They said it was Jim Fox = James Fox = the drummer for another Cleveland rock group -The James Gang. Jay and Amber, many thanks for that song choice.
A teenager growing up in the 60s was just the BEST!!! NUFF SAID ❤✌️
My favorite 60s song is " Time of the season " by the Zombies
Another 60’s group I think y’all will love is Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels singing C. C. Ryder/Jenny Jenny.
Another example of how great music was in that era..😎🍺☮️
That "high pitched scream" is a trumpet player with a very good range.
I miss the sixties soooooooooooooooooooooooo much!
Me tooooo !!!
SO DO I, VERY MUCH, thank goodness I still have a LOT of the music from then in my record collection and CDS, I was 13 in 1960 and 22 in 1969, BEST time for that age, with all the great music we had!
I'm 72 yrs & I Love you guys. It seems like you are talking to me!! & That's a compliment!! 💜
Forty years ago, I met Sonny on a road trip. We were at the Bonneville Salt Flats, and he was on a BMW motorcycle. He was a great guy.It was amazing that two guys from Northeast Ohio crossed paths like that. I took a picture of him with his bike with his camera and he did the same for me with my camera in front of my car.
Great story!
1st OMG I loved this song as a kid / born 60' ....reminds me of AM RADIO and a B/W childhood....
The singer is the same guy that sang presious añd few the band was claimax
Didn’t know that, interesting 👍🏻
Great choice, perfectly captures the pop-oriented rock style of the '60s, excellent vocal by Sonny Geraci. The Outsiders were a one-hit wonder, but another upbeat '60s hit that rocks at the same clip is "Judy in Disguise (With Glasses)" by John Fred & His Playboy Band, a #1 hit in 1968. Creative instrumentation, interesting twists and turns -- I think you'll love it!
How can you call a group who charted 4 top 40 songs a 1 hit wonder??
Junior in high school when this came out! Senior citizen now, and never heard from them again…. But, I can listen to this all day!
The Outsiders released 3 studio albums and 1 " live " album. they were around from 1965 thru 1970 when Walt Nimms wrote and recorded Precious and Few with Sonny.
Jay and Amber, you need to come here to Cleveland and see our little Rock and Roll Museum. Another mid 60's group that you might check out is Dino, Desi and Billy. The group featured Dean "Dino" Martin (Dean Paul Martin, the son of singer and actor Dean Martin), Desi Arnaz Jr. (Desiderio Arnaz IV, the son of television stars Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball), and their friend Billy Hinsche.
I agree. Cleveland has some fantastic museums and also has an incredible zoo that is the only place that had koala bears (in the rainforest) and our gorillas just adopted a baby i think from Texas because mommy became ill. It's a huge story on their process.
And of course our beloved sports teams!
@@andreadeamon6419 ABSOLUTELY!! I am also here in Cleveland, well in the east suburbs. I think they should come here sometime TOO. There is a lot to see and do here and in the surrounding areas.
I moved to Cleveland when I was a teenager and I was always blaring music out of my stereo system super super loud 🤣🤣🤣 I do the same thing here in Memphis many many moons later 🤣🤣🤣
So many great 60’s one hit wonders!
The roots of "rock & roll". The music in this era was EPIC.
I haven't listened to this song for over fifty+ years. This took me back to being a kid, listening to my transistor radio. I forgot how good this song is. I suggest Midnight Confessions by The Grass Roots for a reaction.
Love the 60s and 70s music!!!
Other US bands kind of like this include the Seeds ("Pushing Too Hard," 1965), the Standells ("Dirty Water," 1965), and the Electric Prunes ("I Had Too Much to Dream," 1966). The Outsiders had a longer history than these bands, dating back to 1958, but all these bands were influenced by the mid-sixties British Invasion bands, especially the Rolling Stones.
The Standells were great! Dirty Water and Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White were two of my faves.
The Leaves “Hey Joe.”
One of my favorites!❤
The Outsiders were an American garage band that were part of the American Revolution movement in answer to the British Invasion bands. This was a great one hit wonder that still holds up today. ✌️
They WERE NOT A 1 HIT Wonder.
Whenever someone says "one hit wonder" this is always the first one I think of. I love this song.
I always think of "Little Girl" by The Syndicate Of Sound for reasons unknown. Also 1966.
@@denpea-mm8zr THAT is ANOTHER good one from '66. I STiLL have the 45 rpm single for it. I HOPE they do a reaction to that one sometime
Nice to see some 60s, too bad we don't see more. The Young Rascals "Good Lovin" would be a great next tune to hit.
the Outsiders recorded that song as well
Everyone at the Girls Club use to play this on the JukeBox in the gym every day. Takes me right back there.
Amber and Jay, you finally hit gold! This song was released in January 1966. I was only seven years old at the time, but remember this song being played in rotation on NYC radio station 77 WABC. The song was #60 on the Top 100 list of 1966 on 77 WABC radio.
It reached #16 nationally and #5 in Cleveland.
When this came out, you couldn't listen to your AM transistor radio for more than 30 minutes without hearing it. All the kids dug it the most.
I’m so glad you played this band, I love The Outsiders…woot woot!👍👏👏👏💙💖
A classic Garage Rock genre hit from 1966 and The Outsiders' biggest chart success. There's a lot of interesting tidbits about this song -- and the group -- that many may not know, a few examples: that kickass mid-60s organ wasn't even played by a regular band member, but rather a girl from the greater Cleveland area, Gayle Guhde, who was just 16 at the time; the horns were added later, and the trumpet player, John Madrid, was still in high school when it was recorded; lead singer Sonny Geraci would go on to front the band Climax in the '70s, and it's his vocals you hear on their beautiful 1972 smash hit Precious And Few. 😎
I loved being in my teens in the 60's. Music was so much fun in those days. I loved dancing like crazy with my friends. So glad you played this song.
Another band to check out from Cleveland, Ohio is the Michael Stanley band they were popular in the 70's and 80's. They had some really good songs are like Why this can't be love, Lover or He can't love you.
Yes, please check out the Michael Stanley Band, loved by Cleveland, my hometown!
Yes, great suggestion! I grew up in Cleveland and MSB was THE band in NE Ohio to hear in the late 70's/early 80s, some of their other great tunes from MSB & Michael's solo career; Midwest Midnight, Rosewood Bitters, In the Heartland and Let's Get the Show on the Road, Jay and Amber, you'll enjoy them all!
a good song that has everything and doesnt screw around.
I remember this song from my older brother’s collection of 45’s…. Wow
One of my all time favorite songs EVER! I took art class in high school and one of the projects was to design an album cover. I did one for The Outsiders "Time Won't Let Me."
Sonny Geraci had such a great voice. One of my favorite songs ever. Such a cool happenin song. He later went to Climax in 72, big hit Precious and Few. I'm very surprised with a great voice like his and a performer he wasn't more popular. A shout out to all the band members, great timeless song.
In high school, in the late 70's and early 80's, I had a cassette tape called California: Sounds of the 60's. This was one of my favorites off that album. Thanks, guys! Lotsa fun, as always!❤✌️
That WAS awesome. Though I didn’t remember the name of this group, I remembered every aspect, every note of this song. This was truly a part of the 60s soundtrack all us oldsters have in our hearts. Classic. Thanks for the request and for the reaction. Definitely made me smile!!!
I had a business trip in Plano, Texas about 5yrs ago, and I rode with a coworker who insisted on listening to nothing but a 60s radio station. I remember this song blasting from his car stereo. When I hear this song now, I remember that road trip. A fun 60s gem!
Yes! Love these 60's and 70's one hit wonders! How about "Time Has Come Today" by The Chambers Brothers
Great classic Rock song from the mid 60s. Love this music.
Growing up in that era we instinctively knew that we were blessed with a plethora of musical greatness!
Need to check out : the royal guardsmen- Snoopy vs. the red Baron.
And Snoopy's Christmas!
Thank you for continuing to feature the playlist of my life. I was 14 in 1964 when music started changing.
I grew up with the greatest music of modern times.
Love, you guys
Peace. ✌️
Old friend. RIP, Sonny.
Nice! While not quite a “one-hit-wonder”, they were most known for this song. It’s a great one. And a great reaction.
Thank you... my dad worked his ass off with the Outsiders and before that was known for Tom King and The Starfires
Forgot how good that was!!! Thanks whoever requested this.
You would love "I Got A Line On You" by the band Spirit. 1969 banger!
Yes! And it has to be the original studio version.
Great old tune….
60s is the best era in music..Outsiders are a good rabbit hole to dive in..soulful rock pop
Hippy Hippy shake by the Swinging Blue jeans
One of my favorite songs from that time.
Even though there is great music in almost every decade, the 60's changed the world and the influences were felt in decades to come.
This is one of my favorite songs from the 60’s, glad you reacted to this
This band is best known for this hit "Time Won't Let Me" in early 1966. They did have some other songs such as "Respectable", "Help Me Girl", "Bend Me, Shape Me", "Gotta Leave Us Alone" etc.
Bend Me Shape Me is a great one also!!
This is a single that connoisseurs of 60s hit singles always have in their "best of" lists. It embodies the magic of the pop/rock single - a sub 3 minute concentrate of energy, melody and rhythm with rise and falls and a hook line you can't forget. You're mining gold here guys! "Little Girl" by the Syndicate of Sound next - or perhaps "Mr Dieghingly Sad" by the Critters.
This one's a classic!
I hung out with his (king) brother Don all the time before he passed and i am friends with his son. Love these guys
Hey Andrea
Also try the Beau Brummels, “Laugh Laugh” and “Just a little”
Here's an L.A. band, Authur Lee and Love, and their song "Seven and Seven is" was released in 1966 which is considered Proto Punk, and it was played along with the Outsiders on 93 KHJ Boss AM Radio in Los Angeles. This was a Fun Year.
…and years later, K-EARTH 101 with Robert W Morgan!
@@Thejazzfan66 Yes, I remember Morgan was with both stations, but my favorite DJs was The real Don Steele and Charlie Tuna.
I still have the album from my teen years!
Oh wow!! I never knew The Outsiders were from my neighborhood. I've always loved this high-energy song. Loved your reactions and dancing. 😄*Another group from Cleveland, "The Euclid Beach Band", "There's No Surf in Cleveland, (USA)". Just a fun beach song. 🌊
Hi Vicki, I am from Cleveland too, the east suburbs. I LOVE that song by THE EUCLID BEACH BAND, "THERE"S NO SURF IN CLEVELAND (USA)" It IS a FUN song for sure!
Hi Patti, I'm out here in the west suburbs outside of Cleveland. I am so glad to hear you enjoy the fun song "There's No Surf In Cleveland, USA". I was a teenager when it came out and have loved it ever since. 😊It's kind of our little local anthem. 😄
One of the members lives right down the street from us in Seven Hills. Many great bands from the 60’s
Another nice memory from those great 60's...
73 now...when I was a young man this was my very favorite jam!! nice to see a new generation enjoying it!! 3 songs I always requested, this one , Question Mark & The Mysterians - 96 Tears & Paul Revere & The Raiders - Kicks....still love them all !!
Have heard this song a million times since it came out, but got to see the band the first time just now. Thanks y'all. (Loved the guy with the 80's "Seagulls" hair....20 years early.)
I’m sure you’ve listened to some of these, but here’s a list of 1960s American garage rock songs. Mostly American I know Van Morrison from Scotland.
1. "Louie Louie" by The Kingsmen
2. "Psychotic Reaction" by Count Five
3. "Gloria" by Them (featuring Van Morrison)
4. "Dirty Water" by The Standells
5. "Pushin' Too Hard" by The Seeds
6. "Psychotic Reaction" by Count Five
7. "96 Tears" by ? and the Mysterians
8. "Little Girl" by The Syndicate of Sound
9. "Nobody But Me" by The Human Beinz
10. "Talk Talk" by The Music Machine
These songs are emblematic of the American garage rock sound of the 1960s.
The organist on this song was a 16-year-old girl (Gayle Guhde) from the Cleveland area who was uncredited for this song.
It was #5 in 1966 and just a total foot tapping rocker. The lead singer Sonny Geraci would also sing another smash called Precious And Few by a group called Climax (#2 in 1972).
Another great Cleveland band from that period, the Choir, with "It's Cold Outside".
Most of their albums were filled with covers of other artists, but the Outsiders did have some other hits: "Help Me Girl," "Girl In Love," "I'll Give You Time (To Think It Over), as well as another great original "i'm Not Tyring to Hurt You." As others have said, the singer went on to another band called Climax and another big hit with "Precious and Few." "Time Won't Let Me," though, was this band's sales climax.
One of the great 1960s "nuggets" of the Top 40, and a great one-hit wonder.
Skating rink favorite
My best friend, Marcel was devastated when his four foot tall "Leslie" was stolen in 1979! The thing weighed about 200 lbs 😢
60s,60s,60s!!!! So many great songs from that era..many forgotten, lots of one or two hit bands. You should do a day or a whole week of 60s rock music. A band that had kind of a grung sound back the was The Music Machine, and their song Talk, Talk.
This was awesome! Pride of Cleveland rock and roll. You guys should check out some more Raspberries and The Michael Stanley Band. MSB was legendary in Northeast Ohio. Sadly, Michael passed away a couple of years ago.
Love this song. The Smithereens did a great cover for the movie Timecop starring Jean Claude Van Damme in both the movie, and the video.
The spinning speaker, which modifies the Hammond Organ is called a "Leslie Speaker". Epic technology, hard to reproduce digitally (probably). 🤪
Rock and Roll in its purest form. Before it splintered into several genres. Fun music.
This brings back great ninth grade memories. This song has all the classic 60s sounds thrown in, driving drums, organ in the background, tambourines, some brass and that classic rock & roll guitar sound. One of my all time favorites, thanks for doing this one.
Another great tune that will get you moving and your foot tapping to the CLASSIC 60s sound is Tighter, Tighter by Alive ‘n Kickin’ (even though it was from 1970, believe me it’s classic 60s sound, written by the great Tommy James of The Shondells fame). Guarantee you’ll love it.
A very enthusiastic agreement on "Tighter, Tighter" by Alive ‘n Kicking. That record immediately transports me back to high school 1970. Written and produced by Tommy James, this one is groovy as they come !
Another fun one is California Sun by The Rivieras from 1964!
Great 60's pick. Other hit songs from the Outsiders includes "Girl In Love" and "Respectable". The lead singer Sonny Geraci also was the singer for a group called Climax and had a #10 hit "Precious & Few" in the early 70's. American 60's band request, Paul Revere & The Raiders "Kicks" or "Hungry" Thanks. 😎
Forgot about this blast from the past! Thanks!!
Another classic radio hit. Great upbeat song from the 60's.
I was 4 when this came out. My teenage sister had the 45 and would play it constantly. I would dance my 4 year old butt off to it. Still a great tune.
