- BAY SHORE, NEW YORK - On Thursday, December 29th 2022, Firefighter William P. Moon was laid to rest. Firefighter Moon was assigned to Rescue Company 2, Ex Chief of Islip Fire Department. FF Moon passed away after suffering a severe head injury. FF Moon saved 5 lives by donating organs. According to FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh, Firefighter Moon is the 1,159th member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty. Moon is survived by his wife and two kids.

It’s called a funeral caisson. It carries the casket of the fallen member. It can be numbered to represent whichever unit the member was assigned to.
Why didn’t they salute?
They stood at attention as the procession went down main street. All members saluted as casket was taken from the funeral caisson to the church were the funeral took place.
