The Peel P50 is a three-wheeled microcar originally made from 1962 to 1965 by the Peel Engineering Company on the Isle of Man, and then from 2011 to present. It was listed in the 2010 Guinness World Records as the smallest production car ever made.[4] The original model has no reverse gear, but a handle at the rear allows the very lightweight car to be maneuvered physically when required.
That's not legally an automobile in many jurisdictions but a scootmobile/cyclecar, which might be legal to drive with a moped licence and is forbidden to enter the motorway. The Isetta is a regular car and can be driven on the motorway in the entire EU and probably in most other countries and requires a B licence.
That is the car that SAVED BMW... They almost went belly up if it wasnt for this little gem. "The Erkel Car" for anyone in their late 30's will know abou that. 90's/80's kids!

My best friend in High School had one a little older than yours and I rode a Harley Davidson 125cc motorcycle. We put many miles on both in Maitland/Winter Park FL back in the late 50's. Great memories.
The interaction with the crackhead at the gas station had me dead, you were like this m f doesnt have 1000hp bike and then he said watts and youre like damn that makes sense 😂😂
Love the Isetta! But it needs a lot of work though. A true specialist on them is Mark Hatten from MPH specialties in Portland Oregon. He has also a UA-cam channel with lots of repair videos.
Yep, I put one on at the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville. Jeffrey Lane was driving the thing around INSIDE the museum, stopped, got out, and asked if anyone wanted to sit in it. Of course all the kids did, then I, figuring I'd never get another chance to sit in one, did too. I'm 6'3 and managed... but Jeremey Clarkson is 6'5 and he was driving one around London (and the BBC)!
Came here to say the Isetta ain't the smallest car lol. There are lots of smaller cars than the Isetta out there, but yeah the Peel P50 is the smallest production car. Isettas are still pretty darn cool though!
I haven't watched one of your videos on ages, and the first thing i thought was "damn, you've lost some weight! " Looking good man. Keep up the hard work!
Westen is a good "car buy guy". He asked "can we see if it runs?" And the guy instantly started choking "....well maybe...it's picky....it's out of fuel....it was LEAKING FUEL....." Like bruh....thats that shit any car buyer should be looking out for that people try to hide.
At least he was honest about it upfront. A lot of people would just straight up lie about stuff. They would either lie, or they would try and down play anything else that was wrong with it. He knew that Westen was most likely going to buy it as long as he was able to get it started.
He's a BMW dealer which stands for "Bring Money Wads". At least in haggling that it's a working vehicle you can see the transmission lock up after 50 miles.
that is not even close to the worlds smallest car, but that isnt nearly as earth shattering as the realization that Westen Champlin, the man himself, has never seen top gear
To properly to put in the earplugs is to squeeze them and roll them up and gentle put them into your ears, the ear plugs will expand and fit firmly into your ears.
Damn I wish I read this a couple of hours ago, Instructions were unclear how to block farts, the extra one ended up in left nostril the other ended up blocking the source of the fart. Turned out they were ment to block the sounds not the smell, I've been using them all wrong.
My parents had a red Isetta when I was a kid. They used it for promotions and parades and had a big key that turned around on top. Same proportions as a key operated toy. The newspaper "boys" used to put it up on our front stoop with the door open, milk delivered earlier and the newspaper inside. Maybe it's the same one if it has about a 1" hole in the roof right behind the sunroof. It was pretty new when I was a kid. I think, being air cooled, it would start in any weather. It was sold here by BMW yet me thinks it was of Italian origin. The German "Smart" car is about the same size--way ahead of it's time, I guess. Gas was 20cents a gallon back then, few seemed to care about economy.
That is the cutest car ever built. I wish they would bring them back. Ages ago I had an art car painted with tropical fish a hammerhead crabs squid etc., and the roof had a blue sky with clouds and one bird. I had a fish oven mitt wrapped in plastic like a big raw fish wrapped up that I displayed in the back. Your alligator reminded me of that.
They're called "refrigerators on wheels" because the company that originally designed and built them was an Italian company that built refrigerators. That's how they got the idea for putting the door on the front. They then sold the production rights to BMW.

'In some parts of the world these were considered motorcycles.' In the UK they released a three-wheeled version of the Isetta which became popular because it could be driven with only a motorcycle licence. However, to qualify they had to remove the option of reverse. With the door at the front this meant that you could trap yourself inside if you parked too close to something.

My grandfather bought a snowplane that had a Isetta body. It had a 4 cylinder Lycoming airplane engine with a propeller and skis. We would take it to the lakes in winter and run it on the ice. We went to Houghton lake, Saginaw bay,Devils lake, etc.
In high school a buddy of mine found one of these little cars in a junkyard his grandpa owned, it was a kit car but looked exactly like this. He fixed it up for little bit of nothing to drive around, 1 day coming back from town a older guy chased him down wanting to buy it. A few hours later he bought that sucker for $8500 cash, and that was just a kit car and several years ago. There's a big market for these little things.
Lol taking that through safari is just hilarious I bet the animals thinking to themselves why is our food driving a lunch box with the lid slightly open
I had a friend that owned 4 different ones of these. He and another friend of ours took a VW rear end and floor with engine and mounted it to the isetta. It would easily pop wheelies all day long in our buddy's shop parking lot. It was so much fun.
