Glad to learn more about this. I'm from Australia where we see these temps every summer so I didn't understand the death toll. So it's a little clearer now.

Yeah we endure the temps perfectly fine when the air con is running, but it gets really really difficult when that falls apart and you have to just hide away and experience all that heat. I think we had a few hundreds of deaths in Melbourne in the insane heatwave in 2009 (not including the bushfires).

I'll Never Forget That Heatwave Lasted 24 / 7.. I Didn't Have A C.. I Constantly Stayed Under The Fan With A Wet T-Shirt On. And, I Got Relief Being At Work. 😢, My 13yo DOG ❤ FLY GIRL Suffered.. It Seemed To Age Her.. She Couldn't Walk Anymore.. SHE DIED SOON AFTER.

that temp is normal for us down south but i could see how horrible it is for those up north. sad. kinda what we texans went through this past week with the winter storm.

@heartislove3 In Texas you are prepared for heat. I lived in Austin for two years, and everyone has a/c down there. Florida too. But Chicago has such extreme weather to below zero in the winter to hot/humid summers.......plus politics didn't help either, and crime.

I read his book years ago. It is one of the most comprehensive writing on the 1995 Chicago heatwave and it's victims.

Hello do someone of you have an idea where I can get an original audio recording of a chicago weather forecast from this heatwave time in the 90s?

If you go to restaurants whose cooks come from hot climates, they over salt their food. I don't wonder why. It's just common sense. Think people, don't blindly obey.

How many rich people died from heat exhaustion during the heatwave in Chicago in 1995??? I'm going to make a prediction. ZERO!

Because people want to be entertained not informed. Just like in the Roman times. Let's not forget cheap food (with little nutritional value, but plenty of chemical additives for taste and addiction)

All those unthinking doctors keep telling their (especially the elderly) go on a low salt diet. When you are in a heat wave, a person needs more salt because of sweating.
