I saw a spaghetti western when visiting Italy. The dialogue was in the Italian language with English subtitles. It was a fantastic experience to see the actors relating to each other in a foreign language in a western movie. Of course, the music was great!. Clint spoke fluent Italian...he is quite "a linguist".
These tunes by Ennio Morricone mean so very much too me that when I hear them they make the hairs on my skin stand.. They for ever remind me of my youth and of my family. My family are from the countryside, and were and continue to be Cowboys. I remember seeing my Dad and my Uncles even reading these little books that only contained stories of the Cowboys/Outlaws lifestyle hero's etc.. Ennio Morricone EPIC!
Ennio Morricone wrote so much greatly original, innovative, beautiful, and memorable music for films. The man was absolutely brilliant! All the Morricone film soundtracks are marvellous musical scores.

Queste musiche sono emozionanti per me mi riportano ad una età in cui ero un ragazzino e la vita non la vedevo complicata e cattiva come la vedo oggi.
Very few musical artists touch my soul with their musical talents, but every one of the dollar movies tracks does!
What is amazing about his music is that much of it was written on such a small budget, he had to improvise with whistles, simple vocals, harmonicas, etc. That's why there is so little orchestral work in his early music. It's only Ennio's genius that could make gold from musical tin.

Listening to this I have to believe that Ennio Morricone had as much to do with the success of spaghetti westerns as Clint Eastwood did.

They were all good. Serg, Clint, Ennio, Gian Volonte, Lee, and don't forget the art director Carlo Simi for the authentic look that also influenced nearly every movie since.
And thank an "uncredited" Kirosawa (for "Mojimbo")

western soundtracks, yes, but Morricone has done so much more such as the cinema paradiso soundtrack . Too much to mention and you would probably be surprised certain soundtracks you are familiar with which are from Morricone.

I hate the term, 'Spaghetti Western'....this movie and soundtrack was actually better than any American Western made...much more realism and true emotions and a wonderful glimpse into a war of Americans fighting Americans for a misunderstood ideal. The pain, suffering, and tragedy of a war that should not have been was captured in sound and sight in this profound Western. Thank you to all who made this movie possible. Let's not let history repeat itself.
Edda Dell'Orso's voice has such a calming effect. I find her voice soothing.

Brings back memories of a friend and my brother watching these at a drive in.
Most incredible list of music score in the history of mankind....anyone who doesn't shed a tear during the theme of "Once Upon A Time in the West" has no heart. This music is sensational. No man can instill so much emotion to a movie score as this brilliant master Ennio can.
Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns collectively have the greatest musical film score in the history of cinema - greater even than Star Wars
a huge deal greater than star wars, c'mon. star wars musical score is really cool, but morricone's work is on another planet. actually, it is in a far, far away galaxy
Riccardo Alcaro __ Star Wars' score is great but is fit specifically for Star Wars - Moricone's work can be applied to anything and it still works

Rylo Ken Tarantino uses some stuff in Inglorious Basterds as well - fitting that when he teamed up with him in The Hateful Eight he managed to finally get Ennio an oscar
Yes, his music was truly groundbreaking. That's why it's better than Star Wars. Williams based his work off of Holst's The Planets, which was a good choice, and a credit to him as a composer, but Morricone, to my best ability to tell, conjured this stuff out of thin air. I was thinking that he gets "soundtrack" better than just about any composer I know. It makes the movie into a music video. Most composers (not Williams, he understands the theory too, but most) just noodle bland mood music in the background until the dramatic kiss or the big fight scene. You would not have to put one word of dialogue in a movie scored by Morricone to understand the plot or the feelings of the characters in the scene. It's like he's scoring an opera, really. Pure genius.

Kudos for the tracklist, I've also liked the sequencing a lot. The last track is wonderful, yet I confess that every time I listen to the trio soundtrack I get emotional. Every single time
