What is amazing about his music is that much of it was written on such a small budget, he had to improvise with whistles, simple vocals, harmonicas, etc. That's why there is so little orchestral work in his early music. It's only Ennio's genius that could make gold from musical tin.

It was a fantastic experience to see the actors relating to each other in a foreign language in a western movie. Of course, the music was great!. Clint spoke fluent Italian...he is quite "a linguist".
Ennio Morricone wrote so much greatly original, innovative, beautiful, and memorable music for films. The man was absolutely brilliant! All the Morricone film soundtracks are marvellous musical scores.
This man is an undoubted genius- gave me some of my best childhood memories so I will be forever grateful to Mr Morricone. Thanks for putting this set together- great stuff mate.

Yes, his music was truly groundbreaking. That's why it's better than Star Wars. Williams based his work off of Holst's The Planets, which was a good choice, and a credit to him as a composer, but Morricone, to my best ability to tell, conjured this stuff out of thin air. I was thinking that he gets "soundtrack" better than just about any composer I know. It makes the movie into a music video. Most composers (not Williams, he understands the theory too, but most) just noodle bland mood music in the background until the dramatic kiss or the big fight scene. You would not have to put one word of dialogue in a movie scored by Morricone to understand the plot or the feelings of the characters in the scene. It's like he's scoring an opera, really. Pure genius.

I hate the term, 'Spaghetti Western'....this movie and soundtrack was actually better than any American Western made...much more realism and true emotions and a wonderful glimpse into a war of Americans fighting Americans for a misunderstood ideal. The pain, suffering, and tragedy of a war that should not have been was captured in sound and sight in this profound Western. Thank you to all who made this movie possible. Let's not let history repeat itself.

Most incredible list of music score in the history of mankind....anyone who doesn't shed a tear during the theme of "Once Upon A Time in the West" has no heart. This music is sensational. No man can instill so much emotion to a movie score as this brilliant master Ennio can.
