I was cycling up New Road by Lesnes Abbey, on Saturday just before midday, when I saw a SL3 coming the other way. That was when I realised the new Super Loop route had began operating. So this video was minutes before my ride. Yours is the second video I have seen. The first was a group of youngsters.
0:32 Does that mean you can't get the SL3 from the other 3 bus stops along Harrow Manorway before Abbey Wood Station? I used to live in South Thamesmead and moved away 14 years ago. To get to Bromley back then, I used to have to keep getting a 401 or B11 to Bexleyheath and then get a 269 from there to Bromley. And then back again.
Great video footage and commentary. Will be interesting to see if this route proves popular with passengers. Next year the SL4 between Grove Park and Canary Wharf will be launched. I think it would be sensible if the SL4 was extended to terminate at Bromley North rather then Grove Park. There is not much room at Grove Park bus station already with the high frequency 136 bus route terminating there. Extending the SL4 to Bromley would connect it with more bus routes, as well as the two other SL routes.
Thanks! Yeah definitely will be an interesting route the SL4, Bromley wouldn't be a bad idea to terminate it but I heard whilst at Bromley North that the stands there are now at capacity with two additional routes serving it. That may be why it goes to Grove Park instead perhaps. If anything at least by the SL4 terminating at Grove Park it may mean a slight boost in passenger numbers for the little used Grove Park - Bromley North train service instead 😂
Maybe make the GP - Bromley N trains every 15 mins - or more frequent - and connect to the SL4? half-hourly trains are pretty rubbish in a suburban area like this, so no wonder they are under used. Look at the service on tube lines at the same distance from central London - at least every 10 minutes and often more!
@wnend9144 I think the reason for this is that the Bromley North-Grove Park line is just a spur line for Bromley commuters to catch services into central London when they disembark at Grove Park. During the daytime there is not high enough demand for it to be frequent and there is already the 126 and 261 bus routes to Grove Park, which just take a little bit longer than a train journey. What would be exciting in my opinion if it could be the final stop of an extension of the Bakerloo line, or if the DLR was extended from Lewisham to Bromley North. These ideas have put forward over the years with numerous consultations but have never amounted to anything. So I still think if the SL4 could be extended to Bromley somehow that would be great. At Grove Park there are only 3 allocated bays for terminating vehicles and these are usually occupied by the 136 and 284. So I can't see how the SL4 will terminate there unless the station was expanded, but there is not much adjacent land for this. Also if the SL4 was extended to Bromley it would stop directly outside Grove Park railway station whereas if it terminated at Grove Park Bus station then passengers would have to walk and cross the road to get to the station.
@@jeremyrogers1247I agree that a Bakerloo or DLR extension would be great - either of these would be at least every 10 minutes. I'm sure there is not much demand off peak for the half-hourly service 'as is', because it is infrequent , only connecting with half the London trains at GP. But that again begs the question 'Why can the tube/DLR. support a 'turn-up-and-go' service and not the main-line railway?' I think the answer may be the limitations of the London termini, so the long-term solution is either to link the suburban railway arms to stub ends of the tube (the Bakerloo at E&C, Victoria at Brixton, and conceivably the ex Piccadilly at Aldwych) or futher Cross-Rail schemes linking linking opposite main-lines; not - I suggest - such a high-grade expensive scheme as the Elizabeth line, which would constantly risk postponment or cancellation, but modest, short-as-possible tunnel links which could be partlty paid for by selling/renting the redundant terminal properties.

Great Video as always
Thanks 😀

Haha yeah, definitely weird to see the LTs there but they're a nice addition to the superloop network I like them 👍
What about the poor 269

@@UKTransport232 Yeah the Bromley North-Grove Park spur line is only really used in the morning and late afternoon by commuters.

It’s a shame they didn’t run to Bromley South, where all the train connections are
Agreed, but I guess it's only a short connection between the two.
I done the journey today brillant with the new route masters Goodthing they got usb charging points
Yeah it was great to see rebranded LTs, the chargers are good too 👍
Superloop SL3
Indeed it is
Isn’t it the same route as 269
