I believe "Xibei San Ma" means something along the lines of "Land of Three Mas", referring to the Ma warlord family. You may have noticed that most of your high comnand and the only starting general also have the family name Ma
The Three Mas refers to the three provinces controlled by three branches of the Ma family, which are shown in game as one country: Ningxia, Gansu, and Qinghai
If you want a good representation of the politics of this clique I would recommend playing as them in Kaiserreich, you can play as different members of the family and try to unify China
Xibei San Ma directly translates to "Three Mas of the Northwest", so you're correct in assuming that it's in reference to the Ma Clique.

There used to be three Ma cliques in these area. After the one located in Gansu eliminated, another two kept till 1949. So it's correct that "Xibei San Ma" means "Three warlords in north-west". However, in 1936 (The beginning of the game), only two left.
In fact, as a Chinese speaker, Xi (西) means West, bei (北) means North, San (三) means 3, and Ma (马) means horse (in this case it is a surname). Xibei San Ma is sometimes also known as "Ma Clique", because as you said, it is a clique based on the Ma warlord family.
For the South American videos, as I recall a mod called "En union y libertad" (mod itself is in english) fleshes out at least some of the nations in the continent.

Usually when i play minor nations i turn the game off of historical, it makes weird entertaining things happen on the map and also makes the game a touch harder because you cant just bet on the allies
Xibei San Ma is fun on R56. Only thing I hate is that Paradox really didn't give Ma the right focuses. Ma was extremely into equal rights and education and tried his hardest to expand the education of his people. Wasn't a bad dude at all by all historical accounts.
And he was a muslim what could be a flavour for focuses. Maybe for alt history you have a focus where you get manpower and volunteer divisions from the middle east.
@@rory6860 Yeah but they are under the rule of the soviets which is a liitle bit trikey because they should work. Also these is more of a focus for Sinkiang I guess because these is the part who the Urghurs lived. Xia San Ma is who the Hui people are which are chinese muslim not turks.

The Japanese do it too. Most people know that, but not that the Chinese do it too.

I found you channel in 2018-2019 playing hoi4. I love your video back then and I still today too! I stated play hoi4 in 2018 thanks to your videos. You always make it look so fun play.

For me, I have been playing Hoi4 for only around 4 years, I have however been watching it since late 2017! You introduced me to it and I am so glad you did!
Since release for me. I've been a Paradox Fan since EU3. I apparently had played Hearts of Iron 2 or 1 when I was young according to my family, but I don't have memory of it. Though to be fair I sometimes don't have memory of breakfast :). I want to say I discovered your channel around the time of HOI4 release, maybe a bit after. Again, memory thing lol. Hope you and the rest of ya'll have a good weekend!
I’ve been watching you for a couple years and finally started playing hoi 4 within the last few weeks after putting it off for years for various reasons. My tutorial game went horribly (because paradox tutorials are awful) but my first real game (as the us) ended up opening up a central and South American front (because I took the Monroe doctrine way too literally and created an American faction instead of joining the allies because I was afraid to) against Japan that I was able to manage and win because I built an absolutely massive navy. I then decided I had achieved most of my objectives and didn’t want to deal with the excessively massive Germany and mind bogglingly weak allies so I kind of built an alternative future of this world in my head and moved on.
My second game (and first official one) as Italy went better than tutorial attempt because I knew a little bit more of how to play and I focused more on creating an Italian Union faction instead of joining the axis. Germany was exceedingly weak in this game (because I found out between games that the dozens of factories I traded them as America may have been a significant contributing factor to their success in the first go round, so I didn’t give them any this time) but was able to sustain about 15 million casualties, three fronts and two nukes (rip Vienna and Prague) before they finally collapsed. The most memorable part of the game was when they declared war on my also fascist faction (for seemingly no reason, all while they were already struggling with a France that they never capitulated).
My third game taught how much I still had to learn because I got completely steamrolled by Germany as the Soviets after handily winning a second civil war and reinstalling Trotsky. I’m still thinking about who and how I want to do my fourth run (so far I really enjoy how the ai tries to react when you leave historical on but then just do nonsense) and I also recently started ck 3 (and I think I’m having slightly more fun with that atm) so I’m on a slight hiatus.
Anyway, sorry for the short story, keep up the great work and I hope you don’t go insane with this challenge!

xibei san ma is my favourite warlord it has a lot of horse buffs and you can really make use of boder wars

I think you needed a convoy bc if a railway connection sucks the supply so will try to use rivers and that needs convoys and there’s a river in your land near the frontline at the start of the war
Ma Bufang (馬步芳) was a warlord leader of Ma cliques. Instead of what showed in game, Ma cliques were not necessarily united under a single leader. There were three Ma cliques, and still two of them independent from the other during 1936.

To answer your question. I played Hearts of Iron 1 way back in the late 90s and early 2000s, then found HOI4 in 2018.
When you play Turkey, play with Better Turkey+ mode, it doubles the focus tree by 20.

I was introduced to hoi4 by watching ISP around the time Waking the Tiger came out. It wasnt until about a few years ago (2019?) When I first tried Hoi4. Since the the PDX games have completely replaced the Civ games I grew up with.
I recommend Eu Union Y Libertad for the next 2 episodes. It features tons of focus trees and gameplay for South America.
I started playing HoI4 in 2019, right around the release of Man the Guns. I was playing HoI3 for years before that though, 2019 was just when I actually bothered to upgrade my PC having played on a shitty laptop for years and years, hence why I could only play HoI3 for several years after HoI4 came out
For the south american nations, play either on Road to 56 (which has a great focus tree for Venezuela) and En Union y Libertad (a mod that gives very good focus trees to most South American nations, including Uruguay)

I’ve been playing since 2019ish, spent a lot of time with my chromebook sitting in front of my computer while I played HOI4 pretending to be paying attention to class.
I have 2k hours now so I consider myself middle of the pack, im certainly not new and am experienced at the game, but im also not one of those crazy old timers with 6k hours

I bought HOI4 in 2021, expecting a spectator mode-like experience, something similair to Drew Durnil videos. But what I got instead was this cool grand strategy game that I now have 600 hours in.

I can recomment the Latin-America rework mod(En Unión y Libertad) it has a great tree for uruguay.
At 06:37, it's actually not stuff I've seen hundreds of times before in my games. I always play with historical AI off. If I want to see historical AI, I just watch UA-cam videos.

I have playing this game since 2017, and I almost cant finished my master thesis! My supervisor kept asking me why I wrote it so slow, which I cant said I lead his nation (Japan) back to glory lol.

HOI4 was my 3rd paradox game and was recommended to me when I said the combat in Stellaris made me want to unalive myself. Now HOI4 combat does that for me!
