My mom was one of the dancers on "Sing Along with Mitch" and in her last appearance (May 1965) she was pregnant with me! We saw Mitch in New York in May 2008 and he looked great -- RIP Mitch!!!

i came from Cuba in 61 and lived in Miami for over a year before moving west. This was a favorite show of mine and would sing along to the songs. It was wonderful way to learn and practice English. The music was lively and the chorus great. Darn it, I miss these shows from that time. Nowadays, with more and more channels available, I find myself bored with what's available.

Oh my God.... We lived right up the street from the Miller family when I was a kid in Stony Point. I used to go trick or treating at his place when we did our runs around the neighborhood. He was as nice a guy in person as he was on TV. I had no idea he was a celebrity!
Television was new back then. Most people back then didn't realize their celebrity and how many people would be watching. That's one thing I got out of watching this video. They all seemed so normal and unassuming.
I watched age 4-6 or so. Between the shows and the LPs, I learned SO many great songs from the Civil War through the 40s. Songs that kids used to learn in school, but no longer.
We also as a family got to watch sing-along with Mitch! It was so much fun, but I only saw it in black-and-white and I was about. I don’t know three or four! We used to be able to dance around the house while playing his albums! And did our chores.)On Saturday mornings I really liked that old guy who was very popular entertainer, the best entertainer on TV even to this day. Well, maybe Johnny Carson was second! Gosh this video brings back memories. I remember watching and sometimes singing along with Mitch with my folks and siblings. It followed Hazel on NBC on Thursdays nights at 9:00pm. Sometimes I wished those music entertainment(s) like Mitch would return to television instead of all the trash that's on television now.
I just turned ‘69. I loved this show as a youngster...this was also the very first show we saw “in living color” when we got a color TV....great stuff, great songs, and family fun.

If for no other reason I love this music because it reminds me of my late father. He would have his mug of Budwieser, sitting on our big green couch, the flickering glow of our black and white TV.....and dad would sing along under his breath to all of Mitch's songs. It almost seems like it was a dream, things are so different now...some things for the better but most for the worse
I was about ten, and the family would gather in front of the TV for this show. I can’t remember if we actually sang along, but I like to think we did. It was a much different time. People worked in factories and on farms, cars and household appliances frequently broke down, and so you were tired and worried a lot. But you could get by on hard work alone, so that ego and pretense counted for less then than now. Mitch got everybody to sing just for the joy of it, so they could forget their problems, forget themselves, and heal their hearts. Such nice memories this video brings. Thanks for posting it.
You were one of the best! My dad always listened to "Holiday Sing A Long" at Christmast and thats what got me hooked. I have almost all of his albums and I'm only 27. RIP.
I always find it so awesome to listen to a part of pop culture of a bygone era. All this was before my time, but I still love listening to it! I still listen to my electronic music and all, but there's a certain charm about this that transcends across the generations. Yes - Mitch must be seen, not just heard - marvelous and terrifying! This was what my parents were watching when the Beatles arrived. They were convinced that Mitch was the real deal and the Beatles were a passing fad. And they dressed me just like Mitch's Gang.

I'm just 51 years old but I remember watching Mitch Miller & His Gang on television griwing hp in the Caribbean in the 70's/80's. Loved them then, still love them now. My dad is also a fan to this day.

This show was pure fun! I watched this as a young boy with my parents. We sang along and had a wonderful time. It sparked my interest in music which now ranges from classical to reggae to rock to show tunes to jazz to R&B to country and on and on. Sing Along With Mitch had its time and place and maybe we need to get back to such times when families and communities joined together just for the sake of enjoying being together and doing something just for fun.

My Father and Mother sat us down (all 9 of us) and we listened and sang along. It was great. I know hymns, rhymes that many have no knowledge of. Good times.
We used to watch this show back in the 1960's. There was so much on TV we could watch as a family back then. Lawrence Welk was another we gravitated around.
one of my first memories is his show . i was walking down the street with my mother in the old neighborhood. i could hear the music coming from about every third house , even people singing along. my dad absolutely loved the show, and even sang along. i must have been about six. my grandparents and parents weren't embarassed by singing along.
Since we’re all sharing Mitch stories here, I wasn’t even born yet when Mitch was on TV, but learned about Mitch Miller through used record collecting at thrift shops around 2011-2012. Always a surplus of Mitch Miller, Lawrence Welk, and Herb Albert records.
I grew up watching sing along with mitch and my parents had a huge collection of mitch miller albums, so I learned every song I know from mitch miller records and watching the show, I have an old mitch miller christmas tape I bought at a library book sale. I still love listening to mitch miller, and I am 53 years old
Please keep this on forever. This is just wonderful. Mitch is still active and appears as a guest conductor with orchestras around the country. He was a classically trained musician. And Mitch is not quite 99 yet, but the one time guiding genius behind the careers of many artists at Columbia records (Frankie Laine, Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Guy Mitchell, Teresa Brewer, the Four Lads and Patti Page, among others) will be 99 on the 4th of July. Oh, you Yankee Doodle Boy.

The original "SING ALONG WITH MITCH" series aired from 1961 through '64 (on a different night each season)- in the spring of '66, "selected repeats" of the show were scheduled on Friday nights [8:30-9:30pm(et)] as a replacement for the short-lived "SAMMY DAVIS JR. SHOW" (that's how I remember seeing Mitch and the "Gang"). I don't know when this particular edition was first telecast, or the repeat...but I'll look into it.
Note that Miller, a bit of a beatnik, was a great aficionado of African-American jazz, hired Leslie Uggams as a featured singer despite death threats, and in this "Minstrel Show" number, does NOT have his performers in "blackface". When i was a kid, this was the only family music we had in the house. Later, learning a bit of jazz, and a lot of traditional fiddle music, I was confronted with **generations** of family musical traditions, but as a kid, no. So thank the skies fro Mitch Miller! He got us to ...sing along! Loud and strong! We loved to sing along!
I grew up watching this in the early 60's. What a gas it was. I was in kindergarten and tried to sing along with Mitch and the gang all the time. They just don't make programs like this anymore.
Mitch was a genius and a perfectionist for harmony....lets face it that's what makes a song enjoyable and pleasant to the audio senses....Probably corning to the narrow-minded but still enjoyable to the realistic ones who remember songs you can sing to....not that grunting, groaning and chanting sh*t that pollutes the airwaves today. I wouldn't cr*p on the best part of that garbage.....if it has a best part.
Maybe corny today and totally out of the loop in todays society, but there were songs you can sing along to with meaning that would sort of "get next to you"...and made you feel good.
Wish the ice cream truck would play some of these old tunes as he drives around....it would be a unique change instead of playing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Jingle Bells in the middle of July.
This 4 set group of Mitch Miller and the Sing Along Gang is just terrific. Please don't ever delete it. Just saw Mitch on an episode of Car 54 Where Are You? on the MeTV cable/network channel.
WOW!!! Incredible! We all grew up doing the "S.A.W.M." when his show was on every week! We had some of those albums, but I mostly remember that one album with all the multi-colored fonts with the names of all the songs .. white-ish background .. pretty big seller .. I see it's on i-Tunes. Thanks for posting! Man, any way they could do a S.A.W.M. type halftime show at the next Superbowl?
Oh, thank you for posting these clips. I loved to following the bouncing ball and sing along with Mitch. I remember one time at the end of the show, he jumped up, and never came down. I also remember that he played oboe. I looked forward to his show every week. And like another writer said, it was a wonderful time of clean, family shows.

Watched mainly with my father as my mother worked nights. He bought all the albums. Looks pretty hokey today but I still have some good memories. Can't believe I still know the words to most of these songs. Oy!

Thanks for a great clip. I was about 10 when Mitch was on and really loved the show. The show was still tremendously popular when it was cancelled, but it was that old demographics thing. Before this show Mitch was the guiding genius at Columbia records and helped guide the careers of such as Teresa Brewer, Frankie Laine, Patti Page, Rosemary Clooney, Guy Mitchell, the Four Lads, Dinah Shore, Doris Day and Tony Bennett, to name but a few.
This brings back memories My Dad would play M. Meller on the Hi FI. And Watch His TV Show. I think it was on Sundays Im 57 so I guess I can relate to this kind of great music. Just wonderful.
I remember Mitch Miller and his show when I was a kid. It was a nice way to involve the audience. The late father of the Beach Boys, Murray Wilson used to have weekly family "sing alongs". He helped impart a great love of music and singing to his sons. Many tales have been told about Murray Wilson being a high maintenance sort of guy, apparently he had his issues, but he and his wife Audrey were true music lovers.
Mitch Jane also passed away the other day in Columbia Mo. He was The Dillards lead player. My condolences to both familys. I remember this music it kept the great songs of the past going many years after their time.

I knew that Bob McGrath was doing a stint singng with Mitch Miller; I did see him!! I just ❤️ this WITH the commercials!! I just found out that Mr. McGrath died yesterday at 90. God bless him & thanks to PBS (my childhood) & YT, his memory will not be forgotten. 🙏
I completely forgot about Mitch Miller until I saw him on an old What's My Line episode. What an amazing show of togetherness not long after World War II ended. Gosh, those Libby:s TV ads looked so primitive compared to today's ads.
Miller later felt he was harder on the emerging rock and roll music than it merited...but you can't fault his unwavering support of Leslie Uggams against all those who weren't comfortable with her.

This show was called corny by some, but not by me. However, I felt that the Lawrence Welk Show was corny and tiresome.

Wish I could find "Carolina in the Morning" Sing Along With Mitch....that was a classic!
This show was pure fun! I watched this as a young boy with my parents. We sang along and had a wonderful time. It sparked my interest in music which now ranges from classical to reggae to rock to show tunes to jazz to R&B to country and on and on. Sing Along With Mitch had its time and place and maybe we need to get back to such times when families and communities joined together just for the sake of enjoying being together and doing something just for fun.
White families only is what that means. We don't want to go back to racism and xenophobic times, thanks. NEVER.

As mentioned earlier, some of my fondest memories surround Mitch Miller and His Gang. I was born in 1962 and was kinda, pushing poop into my diaper when some of his music was first aired. This is so cool, thanks for Contributing.

My Father and Mother sat us down (all 9 of us) and we listened and sang along. It was great. I know hymns, rhymes that many have no knowledge of. Good times.
We used to watch this show back in the 1960's. There was so much on TV we could watch as a family back then. Lawrence Welk was another we gravitated around.
It was family time; not kids in a million activities. My Mom watched Lawrence Welk reruns all her life, like so many.

one of my first memories is his show . i was walking down the street with my mother in the old neighborhood. i could hear the music coming from about every third house , even people singing along. my dad absolutely loved the show, and even sang along. i must have been about six. my grandparents and parents weren't embarassed by singing along.
I use to go over to my uncle house, and he play this song on his banjo.We be singing this song .Sweet memories.
Since we’re all sharing Mitch stories here, I wasn’t even born yet when Mitch was on TV, but learned about Mitch Miller through used record collecting at thrift shops around 2011-2012. Always a surplus of Mitch Miller, Lawrence Welk, and Herb Albert records.
One of my cherished childhood memories was singing along with Mitch and my dad.

I grew up watching sing along with mitch and my parents had a huge collection of mitch miller albums, so I learned every song I know from mitch miller records and watching the show, I have an old mitch miller christmas tape I bought at a library book sale. I still love listening to mitch miller, and I am 53 years old

Please keep this on forever. This is just wonderful. Mitch is still active and appears as a guest conductor with orchestras around the country. He was a classically trained musician. And Mitch is not quite 99 yet, but the one time guiding genius behind the careers of many artists at Columbia records (Frankie Laine, Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Guy Mitchell, Teresa Brewer, the Four Lads and Patti Page, among others) will be 99 on the 4th of July. Oh, you Yankee Doodle Boy.
I remember watching Sing Along With Mitch in the late 1950's. I was 3 or 4 yrs old. It was fantastic!

The original "SING ALONG WITH MITCH" series aired from 1961 through '64 (on a different night each season)- in the spring of '66, "selected repeats" of the show were scheduled on Friday nights [8:30-9:30pm(et)] as a replacement for the short-lived "SAMMY DAVIS JR. SHOW" (that's how I remember seeing Mitch and the "Gang"). I don't know when this particular edition was first telecast, or the repeat...but I'll look into it.
Note that Miller, a bit of a beatnik, was a great aficionado of African-American jazz, hired Leslie Uggams as a featured singer despite death threats, and in this "Minstrel Show" number, does NOT have his performers in "blackface". When i was a kid, this was the only family music we had in the house. Later, learning a bit of jazz, and a lot of traditional fiddle music, I was confronted with **generations** of family musical traditions, but as a kid, no. So thank the skies fro Mitch Miller! He got us to ...sing along! Loud and strong! We loved to sing along!

I grew up watching this in the early 60's. What a gas it was. I was in kindergarten and tried to sing along with Mitch and the gang all the time. They just don't make programs like this anymore.
how true....lotta crap programs today plus endless advertisments.
Mitch was a genius and a perfectionist for harmony....lets face it that's what makes a song enjoyable and pleasant to the audio senses....Probably corning to the narrow-minded but still enjoyable to the realistic ones who remember songs you can sing to....not that grunting, groaning and chanting sh*t that pollutes the airwaves today. I wouldn't cr*p on the best part of that garbage.....if it has a best part.
Maybe corny today and totally out of the loop in todays society, but there were songs you can sing along to with meaning that would sort of "get next to you"...and made you feel good.
Wish the ice cream truck would play some of these old tunes as he drives around....it would be a unique change instead of playing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Jingle Bells in the middle of July.
@@parks1968 That is one of my pet peeves, an ice cream truck driver playing Christmas tunes at all times of the year, so annoying!
This 4 set group of Mitch Miller and the Sing Along Gang is just terrific. Please don't ever delete it. Just saw Mitch on an episode of Car 54 Where Are You? on the MeTV cable/network channel.
WOW!!! Incredible! We all grew up doing the "S.A.W.M." when his show was on every week! We had some of those albums, but I mostly remember that one album with all the multi-colored fonts with the names of all the songs .. white-ish background .. pretty big seller .. I see it's on i-Tunes. Thanks for posting! Man, any way they could do a S.A.W.M. type halftime show at the next Superbowl?
Oh, thank you for posting these clips. I loved to following the bouncing ball and sing along with Mitch. I remember one time at the end of the show, he jumped up, and never came down. I also remember that he played oboe. I looked forward to his show every week. And like another writer said, it was a wonderful time of clean, family shows.
RIP Mitch, My dad always said one of the best things he did in life was to sing with you for 5 years. I hope we can see alot more of the shows!!
I loved Mitch Miller and watched it every week as a kid. Question: Does anyone know the name of the older singer with white hair and white mustache? He seems to be featured quite a bit. Is that Stan Carlson?
Watched mainly with my father as my mother worked nights. He bought all the albums. Looks pretty hokey today but I still have some good memories. Can't believe I still know the words to most of these songs. Oy!
NY Times reported on-line that he has passed away today at 99 years old.

Thanks for a great clip. I was about 10 when Mitch was on and really loved the show. The show was still tremendously popular when it was cancelled, but it was that old demographics thing. Before this show Mitch was the guiding genius at Columbia records and helped guide the careers of such as Teresa Brewer, Frankie Laine, Patti Page, Rosemary Clooney, Guy Mitchell, the Four Lads, Dinah Shore, Doris Day and Tony Bennett, to name but a few.
This brings back memories My Dad would play M. Meller on the Hi FI. And Watch His TV Show. I think it was on Sundays Im 57 so I guess I can relate to this kind of great music. Just wonderful.
I remember Mitch Miller and his show when I was a kid. It was a nice way to involve the audience. The late father of the Beach Boys, Murray Wilson used to have weekly family "sing alongs". He helped impart a great love of music and singing to his sons. Many tales have been told about Murray Wilson being a high maintenance sort of guy, apparently he had his issues, but he and his wife Audrey were true music lovers.
Mitch Jane also passed away the other day in Columbia Mo. He was The Dillards lead player.
My condolences to both familys. I remember this music it kept the great songs of the past going many years after their time.
Thanks for sharing this rare stuff, 'dentelTV2'...what memories this brought back. In fact, wasn't sure I truly remembered what I watched until seeing it like this-I was between 2 and 5 when this was on TV! In fact, in inspired me to learn both accordion and harmonica before I was 8!
We loved this show! Dad would sing along. We had a couple of the records they put out and thoroughly enjoyed them!

I knew that Bob McGrath was doing a stint singng with Mitch Miller; I did see him!! I just ❤️ this WITH the commercials!! I just found out that Mr. McGrath died yesterday at 90. God bless him & thanks to PBS (my childhood) & YT, his memory will not be forgotten. 🙏

I completely forgot about Mitch Miller until I saw him on an old What's My Line episode.
What an amazing show of togetherness not long after World War II ended. Gosh, those Libby:s TV ads looked so primitive compared to today's ads.

Miller later felt he was harder on the emerging rock and roll music than it merited...but you can't fault his unwavering support of Leslie Uggams against all those who weren't comfortable with her.
