At last a common sense comment, the truth is Mat didn't put the V90 into 'Sports Mode' which would of changed the outcome on the rolling start race, secondly, he deliberately put up a diesel against a petrol, why ? because he knew the diesel output is lower than the higher spec petrol version which would of trounced the 850 T5, the V90 hybrid engine which is a two litres petrol unit, produces 303 bhp even before the electric motor cuts in ! Don't get me wrong I love the old 850, used to love watching them in the British Touring Car series, but times have changed, I've had a V70 P2 for 10 years, loved it, but it's way behind newer volvo's in refinement, safety and luxury, Volvo interiors have moved on so much over the last 10 years or so, and in my opinion look far better than the for-mentioned 850, which is basically a box on wheels, but a wonderful box with a wonderful engine !

lol ikr
Is that the guy from Straightpipes who drove the 850?
When it comes to fun The old one is much better because it is not so overassisted and it sounds much better and it is also lighter. But the new one is more comfortable and better for daily driving since it has all the new features.
This is jst a showcase to everyone who thinks Sweden cant make cars or that Volvo are bad at making cars. Its a new world, new times, new concepts and best of all a new era of Volvos. Volvo now make luxurious saloon and Estate cars unlike the box-like old cars... Volvos have come a long way since the old big bumpered, heavy, slow, ugly vehicles to modern classy cars and I love it.
Jake Lamotta agreed
I thought it was 850R I was blown away how the d5 beat it but then I realized...
Should do this again but with the 850 T5-R
Love the 29mpg for the T5 hahaha I used to drive one years ago and I think not....great car though a legend!
Everyone missed these gems
20 years of evolution right there
I think it would be a true shame if a car that has 20 years of newer technology inside it, couldn't outrun a much older car. This video proofs what engineering towards the future is and what it's all about. :-)
What a shock - an all-wheel drive turbo diesel beats an old turbo petrol off the line
The old 850 has the best sound I've ever heard...the new diesels rattle awfully... yuck
Wow who would of thought a new car can beat an old one in a drag race plus one with 4wd I’m amazed
I do love the new volvo but a little disappointed with the performance and the trend of having less cylinders. There is no replacement for displacement
Most quiet drag race on Earth.
And then there's the price...
