It doesn’t dissipate heat from behind the screen hinge. It’s passively cooled. There’s no fan in this machine. Behind the hinge is where the speakers are.
This was a terrific video for me. I got the 15-inch midnight and adore it. I had the M2 13 inch, but I needed a screen that could be used for sheet music. My eyes are not what they used to be, so this is so wonderful. Thanks!
Your comparisons about screen size and overall size are very good, and should be helpful to most people trying to decide between these two models.
When you say the MBA is better for entertainment, not work, I think you mean to say the MBA is better for work that is not processor-intensive for sustained periods of time. Many of us do serious work on MBAs that isn't processor intensive. The M3 and even M2 MBA doesn't struggle at all when I'm use them to analyze large datasets, do portfolio analysis, and work with 10 or 20 windows open at the same time.
I have the 13" M2 MBA and the 15" M3 MBA. My workflows often require having two documents side-by-side on the display, and the larger screen size of the 15" model makes a bigger difference than you might think. I can have two documents open side by side, with the full horizontal view of each document and the text on both is comfortably readable. On the 13" MBA, I have to choose between two bad options: display both documents in full size in which case the type is uncomfortably small to read, or display only 2/3 of the horizontal width of each document, which makes the text readable but requires me to pan left and right in each document quite a lot.
Fortunately for me, my employer provided an external monitor AND the 13" M2 MBA, and the external monitor facilitates my work very nice. The 13" model is also very easy to travel with, especially when flying.
I bought the 15" M3 MBA on launch day as my home computer, though I work from home sometimes and use it for work. The larger screen size reduces my dependence on external monitors. When traveling by car, I take the 15" model with me, in case I need to get some serious work done on the road and won't have access to an external monitor.
I totally love both sizes, and I'm super lucky I don't have to choose between them. Compared to the 13" M1 MBA I used to own, the M2 and M3 models have brighter screens, better webcams, and the return of Magsafe which frees up one of the USB-C ports. They have good speakers - especially the 15" model. And very good battery life - esp. the 15" model in my experience these past two weeks.
One thing that might be helpful to your viewers:
I don't notice any performance difference between the M2 and M3 MBA. The only difference I notice is slightly faster shut-down and startup times. The kind of people who need a more powerful processor for their workflows, e.g. for frequent video editing, is not going to be choosing between M2 and M3, they're going to be choosing between MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. For those of us who can do our work just fine on a MBA, the M2 model is plenty powerful.
So, decide between the 13" and 15" models, and then look for sale prices on M2 models as retailers discount them to sell their remaining stock of M2 models.

So, in 2021 i bought the M1 iPad Pro, 256 with keyboard and pencil as my laptop, when the M2 chip came out in picked up my first MacBook Air, 8/10, 16gb, 512, Space Gray. Then in 2024, I replaced my old intel based iMac with the M3 Pro MacBook Pro, 11/14, 18gb, 1T, Space Black as a desktop replacement. At this point, my M2 MBA is my daily driver and most dont really need anything more than that, it’s powerful enough for all of the office type work I’ll ever do.
May I ask why you got the m3 pro macbook pro as a PC replacement if it was just gonna sit at your house and if you already had an m2 air? Could've bought a mac studio or even an m3 imac.
I got the 13in in starlight and let me tell you it is the MOST professional looking laptop and color that there is. Amazing design I swear to god
I am very curious how well that color looks in person. IMO, the Midnight color is 🔥 All the talk about the fingerprints is so overrated and overblown!

I bought the 15” midnight with 24GB & 1TB.
Coming from my 10 year old i7 MacBook Pro, the difference is insane. Mainly in speed and heat. My old laptop would heat up with loud fans if I decide to watch a 1080 video UA-cam.
Should of got the Pro if you going to spend that much money because you get better speakers, more ports and better screen

Cheapest 16” MacBook Pro with less storage is still more expensive than what I got.
I used to think a bigger screen was better; this dates back to the Intel Mac days when I would only consider a 16-inch MacBook. During my time working for Apple, I had to use various models of the MacBook Air for work and my appreciation for it grew so much and the portability aspect of it. If you ask me now, I say 13-inch all day! Get a monitor if you want a big screen unless you're a big screen freak like I used to be 😂
I got the 13 inch M3 in Starlight this week and really loving it, coming from a 2015 MacBook 12". It's amazing, really love it, glad I got 16GB RAM and a 512 SSD. Battery life is really good too.
How long does it last

I am getting all day use from it with battery life left over, single charge. The MacBook 2015 was 3 to 4 hours if lucky.

I’ve got the midnight. Love it. Finger prints are not an issue but I’m not a child so I treat it carefully, but not tenderly. I just love the colour and how it changes in different lighting. I use it as my daily driver for work with issue - though I’m not a content creator.
7:22 I love that the performance of even the Air is excellent, but it's worth noting that they aren't catching up to the professional laptops, but rather the pro version laptops have fewer and fewer distinguishing features as they neglect things like ports, face ID, a better webcam, matte display options for on the go use, etc.
except the Pro's do have better displays, better performance, better speakers and more ports, as well as being only marginally more expensive when you spec the Airs with equivalent RAM and Memory

Im on a 2017 MB Pro 8BG ram, Intel chip. I do web design and development. Most of my day I have these apps on - Chrome (usually 10-20 tabs open, with Webflow for web dev) Notion, Spotify, Figma for UI design. I dont do any video. Im thinking the Air M3 with extra ram at 16gb, whats your guys opinion?
I’d have to go with the starlight. Originally I was thinking the dark blue but after seeing it in person I really don’t like the lack of contrast between the keyboard and that would bug me every time I use it. Plus the fingerprints also isn’t the best. As much as I usually hate champagne colored anything I’ve got to say the starlight is sharp!
Yea same, I like the midnight color itself better. But seeing in person , it’s not as good looking due to finger prints (albeit less than previous model), and the contrast. Starlight is the best looking one, and I originally that color was for women lol

16:16 This is an odd thing to think about since the OS is wasting your vertical screen real estate on top, and most users choose to purposefully waste their screen real estate on the bottom by not hiding or moving the dock.
Settings and software changes could make the 13 show just about as much as the 15" is showing, but few to no Apple users notice this, change it, mention it as a poor default in reviews, and encourage others to do so.
Watching this video from a M2 Base MBA air while sending emails. This machine is a real killer compare to Windows laptops even for photo editing.
I just recently bought the M3 13 inch in the midnight and I absolutely love it. Prior to that I have the M2 15 inch in the starlight color and I didn’t like the color or the size as the 15 inch was just too clunky for my preference. I really didn’t need to upgrade but when the M3 came out, I found a good deal on it and decided it was worth it and I am very happy that I did.

The difference in UI responsiveness between the M1 max and my m3 air is insane... So much faster.

I bought it a little over a week ago and absolutely love it.
I upgraded from a Space Grey base model Apple Refurbished 13-in M1 MacBook Air (256 GB storage/8 GB memory) to this Midnight 15-in M3 MacBook Air (512 GB storage/16 GB memory). It's no contest with screen size, or audio quality. There's a 2-in difference in screen size yet the 15-inch just seems to be bigger in comparison, plus it's 20% brighter. Audio-wise, the M3 15-in has 6 speakers vs two on the 13-in M1, with a correspondingly greater degree of bass response. Bigger, better, faster. The M1 was a necessary choice to replace a 2017 13-in MacBook "Pro" that had stopped charging and was a genuinely horrible device anyway.
Price was not an issue when buying the M3, the M1 is still a fine computer. My sole regret is the Midnight colour choice, it's a real fingerprint magnet. The webcam on the M1 was adequate if the room lighting was good while the M3's 1080p webcam is vastly superior.

"These are for entertainment"...?? Try After Effects on your Pro vs that Air... notice? Ironically, the Airs lack of... err... Air is its Achilles heel, to which can be mitigated with thermal padding or cooling fans.
