For all its complex functions JJ seemed to know it inside and out. He's ikely the single largest marketer for the SG timer but I can see why. Hope he brings it to the MMPSE next year.
JJ is very supportive of his training partner until it gets close. They he changes the guy's stage to include movement (which favors JJ) and starts adding psychological pressure.
Unit? Are you talking about the shot timer? No, shot timers are not free. You buy them like any other piece of shooting or range gear. If you are talking about the electronic device on the tripod stand thing, that's a cell phone, and it is running the app they are using. If you Google this you can find the price for the timer, as well as other information like how the app is free. As for it being a lot of work, if you are a tech savvy person that learns new technology fast if it's not that much work as the UI (user interface) is way more streamlined and easier to use than technology was back in the 60s and 70s. In terms of work as well, these guys are at the M/GM level so the amount of effort it takes to click a button is nothing compared to the training involved in performing at this high level. Check this link out or Google it to read more for yourself. It seems to be a decent timer. I am considering it. timer.shooters.global/product/sg-timer-2/
COOL! I need to try this feature with mine.

Awesome product that keeps getting better and better

true. thats where experience came in and the gap between GM and M
Big difference between CO and open gun too.
And?
I notice JJ isn't using Grauffel's grip.
It looked like he was waiting for a slightly higher level of confirmation to take some shots.

It's too much work. Lol. Is that unit free? Bet not.
