Milling a Cedar Log Sauna: Planning your Cuts!

- We're milling Eastern White Cedar timbers for a square log sauna! The logs will be milled to 4" thick and various heights, and then a rounded profile will be molded on the logs. In this video I provide a few tips on maximizing your timber sizes when chainsaw milling with the Logosol.
The mill is a Logosol F2, the saw is a Stihl MS661.

hey, saw you in an old happy camper video thought I should come and check ya's out
👋😎👍
Excellent video thinking about buying a logosol. Do you get commission or anything? Want to buy through right channel.
I appreciate that! I don't get commission, but did receive a discount on the moulder. It wouldn't hurt to mention that you watched my videos, in case I'm looking for other products in the future :)
Great video. Looking forward to the log moulder.
Water cooling system worth it?
Apparently I don't know how to use a hard nose bar lol. What is the secret to not overheating the tip?. 🤘 with your vidjas
I think it definitely helps. I find the nose of the bar gets really hot even with it though. I'll often splash extra water on the bar between cuts, and keep the chain looser than I would for non-milling work.
I have a F2+. I quit using the Stihl hard nose bar… toooo much friction. I replaced it with a bar with a replaceable tip. Not near as much chain stretching or heat.
Welcome back. Look forward to more videos...
Looking forward to seeing the moulding attachment. Question I see that you aren't using the nose bar clamp ? Or the hand winch
The bar nose steering was interfering with some of the larger logs, but I do think it increases accuracy and will put it back on. The winch I've found myself using less lately... Find it just as fast and easy to push the saw.
Thanks Myles you took the words right out of my mouth.
Definitely interesting topic of water cooling the bar, I tried this with my Alaskan mill and noticed it ran much cooler and the dust/ heat build up was greatly reduced. Still working out some ideas. Your thoughts??
Really look forward to your videos.
Always a good video from you 2.. Hope everything is going well for you.. Cant Wait to see the new tool
No videos for a long time.... hope you guys are ok.
Wieder ein tolles Video von euch. Ich bin gespannt, wie das neue Werkzeug funktioniert und wie ihr die Sauna baut. Weiter so.
Love your videos!
How often do you sharpen the chain?
Great videos guys. My F2 is coming next week. Might be a silly question, but what do you guys do with all the sawdust? Any use for it? Thanks.
We use it to fill holes in our trails. It packs up dense, but a layer of wood chips over top would be ideal.
👍 look forward to the finished sauna
Us too!
Why did you go with the F2 and not the F2 Plus?
Keep following your nose Kielyn!

What size chain saw do you use.
I'm mostly using an MS661 (90cc) when cutting with the logosol, but for larger logs I will also mount my MS880 (120cc).

Are you comfortable with using the 1/4 curf chain from Stihl when you use your 880?
