People usually remember this song in the scene Casper and Kat dance, but it also plays when Amelia and James are talking and she explains why she can't stay and how much she loves them, it is so heartbreaking for me.
This melody is so nostalgic , like all I think about is growing up in the 90s , now I'm 30 years old , have a 4 year old daughter , time flies , enjoy it with your parents & family
34 here and this film still makes me cry. No wife, no children, just taking care of my grandma and my dad with everyone else gone away. Helping to raise my nephews, being their father as best I can. That is it for me, but I still dream of meeting someone to love, someone of my own, someone to have children with. I almost died as a child, double pneumonia, even heard the Doctors telling my dad to "give him whatever he wants" and watched him break down. Miracle of miracles, I survived it yet I always related to Casper because of that.
I love it snd it makes me feel a certain way.. kinda makes me want to burst into tears because that feeling we had when we were kids watching this movie we will never get back again... it's sad to think about.
Teresa Wheeling Me too.I find real men are too scared to lay their feelings on the table.I guess its societies fault maybe, men are taught to not show their feelings because its seen as lowering their manliness. But to me,a man who shows his emotions and is sensitive, that makes him more of a man!

26 too. Just watched the film on Netflix out of nostalgia. Really got me teary eyed. Watching this as a kid was great but watching as an adult. Heartbreaking.

Travy1993, No, this song makes me think about death because of how old it is, 24 years ago, the 90’s are gone, one day the 90’s will be forgotten because those who remember the 90’s will be gone someday
My 5yr old nephew was watching this movie in another room with my wife. I wasn’t paying attention to what they were watching and this song came on out of nowhere. I legit had a full blown panic attack, instant crying. I used to watch this movie as a kid at my grandparents house and hadn’t heard that song in over 20 years. My grandparents passed away a couple years ago and this wrecked me. Crazy how powerful a song can be.

I rewatched this movie on the summer of 2017, in July 1 month before moving to a new country for a better life. I was in my old apartment in my old neighbourhood and knew the ending of a cycle of my life was coming, my beautiful aparment in a very nice peacefull neighbourhood full of trees was going to be sold for a crappy one in a bigger city full of cement, heartless people, strangers if you will. And I remembered watching this in the 90s with my mom and that I was sad, nowadays the feeling returned and now on a friday evening at approximately 3:25 I'm listening to this and toggling street view on google maps to see my old hood again, the church where I got married and the streets I grew up. Sometimes I revisit during the summer when I am on vacation. Nostalgia is a delusion people say, but I truly had happy years there. Maybe someday I will return, who knows?
Damn, I feel you on this one. I moved states and my family moved out of the home I was born in 34 years ago. It’s been a year since my family moved out and I can’t stop thinking about my old house and all the memories. I google street view it a lot and you can still see my family cat that’s passed away a few months ago sitting out the front. I Miss that house so much. PS Did you know you can view older street views of your place? You can go back to years ago.
Michael I flew back only 3 months after moving states and it hit me hard seeing my house I grew up in. Closed up and empty. It was emotional because I no longer had the keys to the house, could no longer go inside, no one was living there yet and the house was empty and lonely. The new owners had already started changing things and painting the house. It really hit me hard. That house will always be a part of me. I’m so glad it’s a solid brick house and will be standing for a long time. We are lucky we can still visit our old homes. Isn’t it funny that something simple like raking leaves with your dad would mean so much years later. MrsRosario85 I can only seem to do it on a computer and not phone. Go to the street view of what ever you are looking at and you will see a little grey square on the top left corner. It should say “street view” and have a little clock next to it. Click the clock and choose a year. My house it shows the street view from 2007, 2009, August 2013, November 2013, 2014 and 2015. Click on the year and then click on the photo and it will open up that years street view. Hope that helps.
I feel the same way. I haven't heard this song nor seen the movie in years. I stumbled upon it today and just hearing that first verse of the piano sent a rush of old memories into my mind again...memories of a 6 year old boy, glued to his T.V., watching the VHS copy of Casper his mother bought him.

This melody haunts the deepest corners of my mind. The nostalgic, hopeful, youthful essence that defined my youth, somehow composed into a chromatic formula that alters my fearful thoughts at any given moment. I am at rest.

This song and the Grand Finale/Ice Dance Danny Elfman reminds me of the loss of innocence and makes me cry also. it is just one of those pieces of music where you know something is coming to an end, that something so beautiful is dying in front of you and you have no way of stopping the pain your bond, to experience from the car accident happening. At least it starts on a lower set to rise at the end as if the last bit of air rising from their now still chest, of the vessel you once studied in such detail is now empty; void of what captivated you by it in the first place. Which you will now forever miss.
"Can I keep you..?" CRY FEST. EVERY SINGLE TIME. It just makes my heart shudder when he says that. This and To Zanarkand are the two that really punch me in the heart @3@;;
This song drives me to another world. A good world. When I take the music off, I feel weird. I think it was sad that Casper died of pneumonia and theres a meaning to this movie I dont know. :(

Brought to tears to me. My cousin Camille passing back in 2006 she was only 23 years she died. She was my best friend to me. I miss her so much. I have the rosay jewely she gave me first commuinon back in 2000. Her favorite movie was Casper we watch on Halloween 1995. This song thinks about my cousin Camilla.
I was 11.... I fell in love with Casper the boy..... I wanted to learn the piano just to play this melody... I was amazed ... And finally..... The most amazing thing that still lies in my heart is "can i keep you?"
Whenever i find the need to cry in my depressive life, this tune sometimes creeps into my head. The soft melody of my childhood past, a song that was sad back then to me, brings me into a river of tears now a days. It is so beautiful, and while it hurts to listen; it helps to cry, for at least i know i am not emotionless, hollow, or a ghost yet.
"whats it like to die?" "It's like being born... only backwards.." "I remember.. I didn't go where I suppose to, I just stayed behind so my dad wouldn't be lonely."
i play this song constantly on the piano. it's so easy to get lost in this song with all the emotion can be displayed with this song. music has a healing effect as does this song. it's gotten me through a very hard year.

omg I can't remember the last time a piano song rose such emotions in my heart. The whole movie made me cry but then with THIS Melody in the background omg omg I cried like hell. It's such a bittersweet movie Q_Q love it.
This music is so honest and true! In movies today you get big blockbuster fanfares, which may be all well and good, but they don't portray the innocence and the goodness that films and music like this do. I think films should revert to this style to find the honesty and beauty in which film making began. Thank you for uploading. x
every time i hear this it makes me cry love it brings me back to my childhood, he says after that i got sick and dad got sad so i wud say it was of phenumonia he died i still think ill love this movie when im 50 the soundtrack is really beautiful i love it!!
90’s was the shit , when you can actually go outside and see kids all down the street playing , now you hardly see a soul on the street skateboarding or on a bike. Technology ruined kids oldschool fun
Couldnt agree more! Im only 20 and i remember going out with a group of friends and playing on a feild and arguing with other kids because we was there first! Really miss it tbh😕
I miss being able to just lay outside and look at the stars without having to be "doing something" like be on your phone or something. You could just look at the stars in peace.
Always makes me feel lonely and sad listening to this but its so nice down the years to listen to as well as other james Horner scores. Had such a childhood crush on christina ricci 😔
"I begged and begged my dad to get me this sled.. And he acted like I couldn't even have it cause I didn't know how to ride it. Then one morning, I came down for breakfast, and there it was, just for me ! For no reason at all. I took it out... Went sledding all day... My dad said that's enough, but I couldn't stop, I was having so much fun! It got late... Got dark... Got cold... And I got sick. Dad got sad... " "... What it like to die? " " Its like... Being born. Only backwards. I remember, I didn't go where I was supposed to go. I just stayed behind., so my dad wouldn't be lonely. "

Thank you TikTok for reminding me how beautiful this song was, how hot Casper was and how much I loved this movie. My childhood was 🔥
What can I say other than I simply love this.
this music is poetry.
thanks!
omg I can't remember the last time a piano song rose such emotions in my heart. The whole movie made me cry but then with THIS Melody in the background omg omg I cried like hell. It's such a bittersweet movie Q_Q love it.
This melody lives in my mind rent free. “Can I keep you”
This music is so honest and true! In movies today you get big blockbuster fanfares, which may be all well and good, but they don't portray the innocence and the goodness that films and music like this do. I think films should revert to this style to find the honesty and beauty in which film making began. Thank you for uploading. x
When your heart and soul yearn for this song, you will find your way back to it.
every time i hear this it makes me cry love it brings me back to my childhood,
he says after that i got sick and dad got sad so i wud say it was of phenumonia he died
i still think ill love this movie when im 50 the soundtrack is really beautiful i love it!!
I love this, it's so pretty.
The feels.. movie still gets me.
The beautiful ballad of a young soul who passed before his time....this track is the perfect match for casper
90’s was the shit , when you can actually go outside and see kids all down the street playing , now you hardly see a soul on the street skateboarding or on a bike. Technology ruined kids oldschool fun
Yep
Couldnt agree more! Im only 20 and i remember going out with a group of friends and playing on a feild and arguing with other kids because we was there first! Really miss it tbh😕
Right man ? I would cry because I wanted to go outside 😭
I miss being able to just lay outside and look at the stars without having to be "doing something" like be on your phone or something. You could just look at the stars in peace.
Played this at my grandads funeral
RIP pops xx
so sad sorry hear that. this music very touching . rip to your grandfather
Underrated movie, fantastic musics, it brings back wonderful memories from my chilhood..
This great song was performed by James Horner.
R.I.P. 22 of jun. of 2015
The original yes :) great music. This version was performed by me :D
Day after day I lesson to this song and cry
"kat.. can i keep you?"
i remember when i first watched this when i was little, ah so many good memories:))
i always have loved this :D
Always makes me feel lonely and sad listening to this but its so nice down the years to listen to as well as other james Horner scores. Had such a childhood crush on christina ricci 😔
James Horner's composing will never cease to amaze me.
I was 6 when i first saw this film. I got my first puppy later on and told her "can i keep you" but she got sick and passed away 🐶🌈
Such an amazing song...brings so many emotions ....lush :)
Lyndsey Jones I am glad you like it :)
One of the most moving solos to ever be in a 'children's movie'
"I begged and begged my dad to get me this sled.. And he acted like I couldn't even have it cause I didn't know how to ride it. Then one morning, I came down for breakfast, and there it was, just for me ! For no reason at all. I took it out... Went sledding all day... My dad said that's enough, but I couldn't stop, I was having so much fun! It got late... Got dark... Got cold... And I got sick. Dad got sad... "
"... What it like to die? "
" Its like... Being born. Only backwards. I remember, I didn't go where I was supposed to go. I just stayed behind., so my dad wouldn't be lonely. "
This brings me back to my childhood. I remembered how I wanted to have a ghost friend of my own like casper. :( I love this!
"Can I keep you?"
That's gonna be my proposal with this playing
