      Yes thanks to this person!! I’ve seen a lot of other YT videos of people saying 22ft lbs and over 13ft lbs in a lot of online threads as well. I broke one at 10ft lbs so please torque to 4ft lbs or use a 1/4 ratchet and hand tighten!! I’m not a mechanic nor a professional and if someone says 13ft lbs and have mechanic videos I’m going to believe them, but I’ve learned to do my own research or call the dealership themselves!

      well I have the corolla 97 -22 manual in front of me now, the oil pan is 9nm, the valve body is 10 nm, the rocker cover is 9nm, the trans drain plug is 17nm , the oil drain plug is 37nm. Nothing about transmission filter or pan but I would be surprised if it wasn't 9nm, which is 80 ft pounds. 9 nm felt about right when I did it. THAT IS FOR THE 4 SPEED 1.6 VVTI. It varies from model to model.

    Random question that might be dumb. My son's car started having some issues that seem to be transmission related. Background: I bought him the car about a year and a half ago. In that time the only stuff been done to it was by his dad, none of which are transmission related stuff.
    The issues just started a few days ago and got dramatically worse pretty quickly. He started noticing it seemed to not be shifting the same from 2nd to 3rd and then down shifting. His car is automatic but he said it just felt off. Then the other day it got so bad that he was worried about driving it so I drove it. To me it feels like his overdrive is kicking in for no reason between 2nd and 3rd. So I checked the transmission fluid wondering if it's a leak or just needs to be changed really bad and it is seriously overfull. At cold it is just about the hot line and at temp the fluid is like past the words on the dip stick.
    My question is, could that be causing what's happening even though it has to have been that full for over a year and either way can I just drain a little or do I have to do a full transmission fluid change in order to fix the situation?

    • @Handy-Mann
      @Handy-Mann  7 місяців тому

      So overfilling the transmission can definitely cause those symptoms. Kinda odd that it's just happening if it's been overfilled for over a year. Doing a full transmission drain like I show here is going to give you a lot more insight into the seriousness of the situation. If there's giant chunks of metal in the fluid drained and on the transmission pan then there's a good chance you'll need a full transmission rebuild. If it's just small shavings like i show then you might get away with just refilling it to the proper level and cautiously driving it and monitoring it closely.

  • @pmlonline
    @pmlonline 6 років тому +5

    CAUTION: If your car has over 100,000 miles and transmission fluid is dark then it's very possible a transmission fluid change will cause the transmission to slip. This is very real and well known. If that happens then search youtube for Lucas transmission fix.

    • @tardeliesmagic
      @tardeliesmagic 5 років тому

      Correct! The plates are worn and those bits are in the trans fluid which does still help the shift. It's risky changing it i agree.I changed mine at 85.000 miles and it's doing good.

    • @Handy-Mann
      @Handy-Mann  4 роки тому +2

      I would still change the filter. I usually end up cleaning out a decent amount of gunk off of the pan when I take the pan off that I otherwise would not have been able to clean had I left the pan on. And so long as you properly put the pan back on you shouldn't have leaks. I've done this job 3 times now on my Corolla and I haven't had a leak yet.

      You can check the model name inside the hood. The third letter of the second segment gives you the transmission type. M stands for 5 speeds, manual; H stands for 3 speeds, automatic and P stands for 4 speeds, automatic. For example: EE111L-GEPRKF-NE-, that serial should stand for 4 speeds models (P)
