wait what..You are going to tell me that you don't get bubbles doing that? I use regular Tac paper Im looking a way to apply it easier , right now I have a way, DIY it works for now , USCUTTER has an application roller, haven't check that one out.. Great vid! keep it up
What kind of roller is that? Work in a city sign shop and that setup is exactly what were wanting to do. I can only find the manually adjustable and not the air cold rollers.
I read where you created and welded the arms and added conduit for the app tape to slide onto, but my question is what are you using to keep the app tape roll nice and firm on the conduit? It's not wobbling or sliding around . The rolls come with 3" core so it looks like there is some form of an adapter to keep the roll nice and firm on the 1 inch conduit
Mike Ferretti The rolls of tape I order come with plastic end caps. They fit inside the end of the roll. It has a half inch or so hole so it fits the conduit perfectly.
Hey Bob, great machine you've got there, excellent work. Wondering if you could give me some advice... I have a small 27" version that I use and is essentially the exact same set-up minus the quality engineering and hydraulics, and I sometimes get this issue where the film (the cut vinyl or media) forms folds or wrinkles halfway through the application as it feeds into the roller. Obviously this ruins the cut and cannot be rectified, I can't figure out what causes it, perhaps you struggled with this issue at first when making your machine here. Thanks in advance for any knowledge you can share with me. Jim
I do have that problem more time than I like. I have the 48" roller so the smaller signs like street signs that are only 9" wide, I turn sideways so only the 9" side is going through the roller. Als if you are having problems make sure your work is centered in the middle of the roller. I have also been using a blank larger that the sign. It seems to help keep the blank from moving when applying the transfer.
I use two different kinds. 3M Premasking SCPM-3 and another brand called Aspire. When I roll the transfer tape on my roller I adjust the pressure to 30 lbs. When I roll sheeting I adjust to 80 lbs. I get bubbles sometimes on the transfer tape but it doesn't cause any problems.
That's awesome!!!

Its a Scotchlite 3m Applicator Mo# HSRA 48.. We bought it from 3m over 15 years ago. Check with your 3M rep.
Right after I commented I found the highway handyman site. Same model numbers. Thank you very much for the reply.
When I started 3m used to give you the roller for free as long as you bought 3m sheeting.

@@BobTheSignMan interesting my tape doesn't come with end caps but my vinyl does. Perfect use as they usually get thrown out, thx

Bob, What type of transfer tape are you using? I use the clear 3m transfer TPM5, but often get bubbles if not very careful.

Awesome!
Great!
What is that laminating machine called?
I think he made it
Do you sell these?
Sorry I don’t. I work for the County. Everything I make is for the county.
Can you share the details on how you build this thing?
I just welded two brackets and notched the top to hold a piece of electrical conduit
@@BobTheSignMan what's the lower roller?
Barry Nguyen It press the sheeting onto the sign blank.
