i never thought in a million years anyone would be interested in my little hometown that much that a verified youtuber would actually vlog it. this is so cool. i can't even express how weird and fun it is for me to see the streets i have lived in my whole life on youtube, and the comments! there are so much more beautiful days for the sea here, and much more beautiful scenes here. wish you have filmed that! thank you for showing it though! we could definitely use more tourists to help fund more for our city!♥

Attractive clean town with the brick sidewalks and plazas. I like that there is lots of art everywhere. I enjoy beach towns during off season. I don't care for sunbathing and partying. Thank you for another terrific video.

They are actually opening a new Airport in Eilat in a couple of months, which is further away from the city.
The current airport will be demolished for hotels, and other tourist facilities.

Can't believe you passed on Masada and Ein Gedi for a dip in the Dead Sea and a walk in the surrounding mountains!? Definitely some of the top places to visit in Israel.

Eilat was my favourite place when I visited Israel and I also visited Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Mitzpe Ramon. Not the city itself because it's so touristy but the surrounding areas like all the nice beaches for instance the Coral Reef and Princess Beach are so amazing, especially for snorkeling and the water seemed ways warmer than the air.
Also there are so cool things to do around Eilat for instance the Red Canyon and the Eilat Mountains or the Timna Park.
Dieter Fischer the Masada mountain,with the sad story that goes with it,its so beautiful up there.

The water does stay much warmer year round than the air temps suggest - this was once Eilat's big draw to European winter tourists, but times, and the tourists, moved on, so it's becoming increasingly orientated to domestic travellers. I remember diving Eilat in March, in a shorty wetsuit...

I do not understand why Gabriel didn't visit Eilat Mountains or the Timna Park. he basically just went to Eilat to get a falafel by the sea side : /
I took my wife to Eilat during the Autumn of 2000. That time of the year is great, for it was warm but not too hot. A visit to Coral Beach, about two miles south of Eilat is a worthwhile experience. The Coral Reef and the clear turquoise water is unforgettable. Equipment can be hired for the day.
As someone who was born and raised in eilat January is the worst time for a visit, yes summer time can be really hot but April May /September October is an amazing time to visit! You went across the north beach line which is very commercial and luxury, South Beach line is way more beautiful and holds a lots of reefs and stunning sites and views.
In one thing you were right, eilat is so damn expensive.
Hi ~~ Great film..I first visited Eilat from England in 1987.. Last year I was there for the 20th time.. I am caught in "The Eilat Trap".. I can't really say what it is that attracts me to Eilat, but every time I return I feel it is like a home-coming.. Sadly now it has become very expensive, and that will prove to be the only thing that will restrict my future trips to Eilat.. :(

@@SweetlOvixdii Believe me,Eilat has been paradise for so many of us in the past,I came from Finland over and over again during the 80's and 90's😍 Worked there at one point in a small coffeeshop and stayed in youth hostels and just spent my lazy young days there!! Wonderful memories,I have to re-live that time one more time,soon. Nostalgic-trip.
I was also in Eilat in 1987/88. Working on a boat in the marina.......watching this video I hardly recognize the place....I guess it’s changed a lot right. I wonder if the red lion pub is still there and the peace cafe, Spiral nightclub
I was there in 93-94 then 96-98.
I stayed in the home hostel and I also worked in the melon farm.
Israel is self made country, developed and clean, despite of all the odds and the only democracy in middle east.

That's completely false. I highly doubt you've even visited any of the other countries.
Your hatred towards Muslim countries is very fascinating to me, especially while you brag about India's development. Saudi Arabia alone does about $25 BILLION USD in trade (one of India's top trading partners), not to mention the other wealthy Arab Gulf countries. In fact, a large amount of Indian development is owed to those countries who have MANY investments there.
I went there in december and it was 33 degrees , was amazing time to be there ! And Eilat is much more that you showed , you actually have amazing moutains to explore , and what i actually liked a lot was the night ! , i went to a lot of cool places , AMAZING VIBES , all free enter , and free techno ! a lot of good music everywhere , was really cool city , that will only open thei secrets to those you are ready to find it , and get a litle out of their confort zone .
But for one day of course you cant descober that ahhaha Good video by the way !

@@samsambo Uhh don't think so, well except that Eilat has 0% tax so that's kinda cool, and a lot of people work at the hotels and stuff so when Corona hit, our mayor tried really hard to convice to keep the hotels open but they've been closed for a while and a lot of people were and or are unemployed. Also we are the only city that I know of, where you can't enter without a coronavirus test less than a week beforehand.

It's very hot in Eilat during Summer and pretty expensive, so be warned! I lived there a few years. Used to be a cafe just below the new bus station called The Red Sea Fish. Very popular with overseas young people. Early evening you could look over to the mountains of Jordan whilst drinking a cold beer and watch them turn red then purple as the sun went down. Great place!

That was crazy. I just thought to myself - that place seems like Santa Cruz (California) and then Gabe said the exact same thing. But I was in Santa Cruz in the 1980s when it was a quieter place.
For a relaxing short break and holiday Eilat is a lovely and chilling town. Nice coastline, some nice activities and nature all arround.

Surreal video. Beautiful location and scenery the most picturesque spot I have seen in Israel but yet hardly anyone around.
in the 80's and 90's it was full of people,mostly tourists from all over the world but also lots of Israeli familys on vacation.
You missed the Reef which is in my opinion the best thing in Eilat
You mean snorkeling or diving? It was middle of winter so I wasn't really keen on going in the water. Next time when I go back, hopefully when it's warmer. I've seen some videos of the underwater scene and it looks spectacular.
Gabriel Traveler yep i meant snorkeling. It is also fine to do this in the winter. You just need a suit which you can rent. I highly recommend you to do it next time you come visit Eilat
@@GabrielTravelerVideos The water is warmer than the air, due to the nature of the red sea, you can comfortably dive year round on a wetsuit. To be honest, the reefs are the only real reason to go. The town itself is pleasent enough, but there's not a massive amount to do topside. Under the water is where it's at. Aqaba has better and more varied diving though - there's a longer coastline, and the Jordanians have really pushed the boat out to showcase their reefs.
@Gabriel Traveler when you are on the snorkeling beach in Eilat or Aqaba, please pich in and pick up some trash from the beach. its so beautifull there and people dissrespect it by leaving trash and cigarette buds.

I visited Eilat many years ago as a kid with my mom. The sea and the coral reef was truly beautiful with incredibly bright colors. Very sad that today lots of the corals are almost dead and turned grey

Quick note for you this airport as no longer in use :/ but we built new one 35 min approx north to Eilat, also fun fact, that bridge you crossed and looked right at 7:17 was a Park with nice facilities back at the day's..

I lived in Tel Aviv rfom 2006-2009. I discovered relatives in Eilat in 2008, and was lucky enough to get to go there a number of times and see it from a resident's perspective.
I first visited here in 1991, just as Desert Storm was winding down. I'd been working in Tel Aviv and someone arranged for me to make the trip. In the mid-1990s it became like a second home. I worked at the Taba Hilton for a while but lived in Eilat just round the corner from the bus station. That's Hatmarim he's walking down to the airport, the start of my daily commute to the border. This is the friendliest place I've ever visited. Went back there briefly in 2010 and it was like coming home. The place might have changed a lot but the people hadn't. Even if you don't dive it's a great place to hang out and the weather is outstanding.

Dude, if you are making your way up Israel, please stop in Mitzpe Ramon! Perfect time of year, and the town is right on the edge of a magnificent canyon. Beautiful views and hikes--also might be some cheaper accomodations there.

I was there last December, quite a nice place..visited timna park which is good for a little camping trip.
There's a cool hike near Eilat where you can see Jordan, Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. I can't remember the name of the hike but it is really cool. Are you planning on backpacking through Africa anytime?

I thought the airport in the middle of the city was closed. There is a new international airport just outside of Eilat, which serves flights to and from Europe. I once flew out of the old city airport to catch a flight home out of Ben Gurion.

ABSOLUTELY WORTH VISITING! Thank you for giving a perspective of how close Israel is to hostile borders. People have no idea how small it is and why it's so important to defend its borders. I lived in Israel for quite some time and have been back several times as a "tourist." Israel is a Jewish nation but also a democracy. There's no occupation; IDF retreated from the West Bank and Gaza many years ago. Anyway, go surfing, yes surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling and enjoy the beach. It's actually way to hot in the summer so it's mostly tourists. The dead sea is a naturally occurring salt water body dating back thousands of years. It's called the dead sea because nothing lives in it. The people you see there on Shabbos are mostly tourists. Enjoy. It's an amazing place.
There is still occupation in the West Bank.. in fact, Israel is building settlements in these Palestinian territories which is illegal yet no one does anything about it.
All Star Not true. According to international law, Judea and Samaria (aka the West Bank) is not an occupied territory, because previously it did not belong to a sovereign state. Moreover, in the 1922 San Remo conference the land was internationally recognized as part of the forthcoming Jewish state, a decision that holds validity to this day. Jordan was an illegal occupier of the land between 1948-1967, and Israel seized it from Jordan in a war of defense. Regardless, Jordan relinquished its claims for this land in 1988, which means Israel is the only country with a viable claim to this land.

Seriously, spent 4 days staying in Santa Cruz, i think what you mean is that Eliat feels like a working class beach town. My husband wants to go to Israel but I have no interest. Looks like if I had a few beach days we may have a gpod compromise. I would go to Petra also, that looked amazing.

TEN DOLLARS for a single beer sounds off the charts expensive. I don't drink alcohol but for those that do, it seems - shall we say - problematic. If that is indicative of the prices in Eilat - especially in the so called 'off' of 'down' season for tourism, then I don't suppose that a visit to Eilat will make it into my bucket list.
Unfortunately those are the prices at all cities. If you want a cheaper option get a can or a bottle in a conveniet store \ supermarket (it's the $3 option for 500 ml beer, including international brands)
Fun Fact about Eilat: It is the only place in Israel where all purchases are exempt from Value Added Tax--which means much cheaper shopping! (As a tourist, you may be able to reclaim VAT on your purchases from anywhere in the country when you leave, but I've never tried it.)

I'm in Jerusalem right now but I'm catching a flight tomorrow. Hint: it's a 70-minute flight.
Eilat known for the nice diving reef and also dolphins :) but its get crazy hot in july and august, around 40+ clz .. but no humidity at all so its bareble, and the water stay cool all year becuse its part of the ocean. If you have 3-4 days in israel so pass eilat.. but if you have more i think its cool place to relax, just be sure to come in the right season.

Eilat used to be popular with European tourists. I visited as a kid from the UK with my family for a winter holiday. It seems waaaaay less common now, the place has almost totally dropped of the radar in western Europe (except Germany, to a limited degree) so that might also go some way to explaining the emptiness. Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada in Egypt (and Aqaba in Jordan, to a lesser degree) took most of the trade. Israel was expensive, politically problematic, and the stamps in your passport were a real problem. Also the tiny slice of coast meant the resort couldn't really develop. Once the Egyptian Red Sea opened up to the mainstream market, Eilat found it hard to compete and now if's pretty much only for the domestic market. It's a shame, as the resort was had some good ideas - ahead of it's time in a lot of ways - and was, for the most part, well run.
