    One of my favorite games as a child. I never had anyone to play with as a kid, so I just played by myself (pathetic I know). The characters use to freak me out! They all looked so evil! As an adult, I have friends to play this game with and it’s a lot of fun. Though I’m not sure if the rules vary due to region/country or which edition you’re playing (1993/2018 version), but I’m in Texas so in my version the instructions say you CAN play a trap card as soon as you draw it if the character is on that trap space and if the card is not the correct one, you just save it for another turn. Also, if a character is on a trap space and you later get the correct trap card, you have to move the character off, wait your next turn and then move them back onto the trap to play the card, activate the trap, and eliminate the character.
    I love your reviews and I must say you are hotter than the freaking sun! Your eyes kinda made my heart skip a little beat first time around. *blushes* Lol 😂 I’m an American and I’ve always found British accents so sexy!
    Anyways, now that I’m done making a fool of myself, I must say I always wished the movers/pawns were figurines/painted movers to make it more authentic and I’ve always held out hope they’ll make a movie out of this game. Could be horror or horror/comedy. Another great review!

    Another Splendid review Luke! I love how you come up with house rules to make the game even better!
    How has your new job been going? Good to see you haven't abandon your Channel. It's one of my favorite ones on UA-cam hands down!

      Thanks Matt, glad you liked it. Yeah, defo give those house rules a try, especially the no reveal rule, it really makes the game more fun. New job is going great thanks, lot to learn, partly why I've been a bit slow getting this episode out but I'm getting there with it now, and what I'm learning editing and filming-wise there will be used in future episodes :)

    Don't know if it's the same where you are, but here in the USA for the last few years this game is REALLY easy to find brand new in Barnes and Noble bookstores etc. time to pick up a copy after seeing this smashing review!

      how is the component quality? I had heard rumour that the cardboard was a bit on the thin side? Having only played the original I'm interested to know how the remake holds up

    • @thatgeek8064

      @@downfromtheattic its not bad. Ive never played an original set, but from what I've seen its basically an exact recreation. To me, the components don't feel too bad. Definitely not unbreakable, but not fragile either

    when you've lost, but still continue to play or influence who the winner is i think is called the kingmaker mechanic. naturally as i try to find examples of that, all the websites suddenly seem to forget to include that in their list of game mechanics.

    The story of the game reminds me of the plot to Knives Out.

    Years ago I remember they came out with a Clue Jr. Where you (the kids) had to figure out 🤔 who stole a glass of 🥛 milk and a peace of Chocolate cake-this was in the mid to late 80's 😊 :) I don't like how Clue changed to all high tech stuff, using cell phones 📱I miss the classic stuff..👋

    One thing of note is that there are new versions of this game out. That is to say, there is a company that has the rights to produce copies of 13 Dead End Drive. As such, the game is easier to find. An original copy is also less valuable because of those, but I’d rather just have a copy to play rather than one to keep as a collector’s item, so yay for copies still being made.

    I have this game, and it is really fun!
    EDIT: Now a new version has been made, and it's practically the same except...
    The art style is different
    The names of some of the characters have changed, but still in the same role (e.g. the maid became the housekeeper)
    The statue is now a piggy bank instead of a knight
    They removed the trap door near the fireplace, so now the trapdoors are only on the corner traps
    Other very minor things

    This was probably my favourite childhood game... We also never revealed who had what characters... I just remember it being the rules... But then again I probably last played it in 1997

    I have been wanting this game for my board game collection. I am a solo board gamer and I'm trying hard to figure out how to play this game solo. I can't find a video or anything online to seek my answer. I like the dynamic aspect of this game, and I wanted this game since it came out when I was a kid, but never seeked to my attention. I want to be able to set a house rule that will allow a solo playthrough

    You said that when you roll the dice, you could move two characters (one for each die) or one character the full count. Either the rule is different in the UK or you just didn't fully understand because here in the US, you could only choose to move one character the full count if you rolled doubles.

    • @downfromtheattic
      @downfromtheattic  6 років тому

      Rolling doubles in my instructions means that you can choose to change the portrait, that's the only printed rule for rolling double. But yeah, the player is given the option of moving two characters (one for each die) or the one character the total count of the die. I've just found the instruction manual on the hasbro website and looking at it, it's different to the manual I have with my copy so it could be a revision

    • @SammyKnight13

      @@downfromtheattic Changing the portrait for doubles is also seen in my instructions.

    I found the reproduction a couple of years ago. I love it, but it's a pain in the neck to set up. I've had to make a deal with my sister. If I want someone to play it with me, I have to do the set up myself. I love the original commercial for it. My sister has an interesting way to play. She likes killing off her own characters, if she doesn't want a specific character to win (she really dislikes the Boyfriend). Me, I'd try to get the cat to win.

    They've made a new version of this game, It's the same game, looks to be the same rules, just the art and trap pieces have been updated. And no, not 1313 Dead End Drive, but a new version of 13 Dead End Drive.

    Having SIX players as almost as bad as having 12 players, that mean someone may be out of the game a lot earlier because all their characters may be killed off sooner.

    • @downfromtheattic
      @downfromtheattic  3 роки тому

      Two player you only have 4 cards per player, so out of the 12 there’s 4 that are free between the two players. It definitely helps with not knowing which characters your opponents have.
