Another day, another console from Goodwill! The Nintendo 2DS console is a classic take on the Nintendo 3DS console, so I decided to pick up some Nintendo 2DS consoles from Goodwill... and of course they are untested! Let's see if any of them work...

I think that the kids grew up and just forgot about and the parents gave them away
Fun fact the original 2DS uses a single screen and it's just the bezel separating them cosmetically with the bottom screen difference only being the addition of a touch screen layer. (I assume the top/bottom screen graphics are just merged together in some kind of hardware based frame buffer or something) That's why that one 2DS had both screens consistently dim because it's all on one screen. ;)

The 2DS actually just has one big screen. So that’s why “both” look the same.

On the original 2DS the two screens are actually one screen, so whichever defect caused the colors to be like that could affect both halves of the screen
the power saving mode on the 3ds series actually darkens the screens a bit, the same also applys to the 2ds. So the 2ds with the dark screen probably has power saving on
It had a washed out screen, I know it’s hard to tell in the video but it’s more than just a dark screen

I have the black + turquoise New Nintendo 2DS XL and love it so much. Thankfully the console is still in very good condition 🙏🏻
The New 2DS/3DS was an upgrade.
Even later games that didn't require the upgraded hardware could have issues with the previous hardware.
Pokémon Sun and Moon would restart the console if you closed the game because they really pushed the 3DS to the limit

19:58 That 2DS is running firmware version 7.1.0-12U. It literally shows it on the bottom right corner of the top screen on the main page of System Settings.
1:40 it’s only for new 3DS because the original isn’t powerful enough and doesn’t have the squishy control stick over the buttons which is used to look around
I bought a used 2ds and one of the audio files was from 2009 and just of the original owner screaming ( unnecessary: the audio was very bass boosted and crispy )
Those volume sliders have two little micro pins on the slider plastic piece that is supposed to touch the metal slates under the metal shield. If there are micro pins bent up, just bend them down super gently to fix it. IPA can clean the slates/contacts too.
This is good to know. My grandson's volume slider isn't adjusting the volume on his 2ds. It's stuck in silence mode even using headphones
@@Wineoclockbookworm It’s a little different for a muted volume! The only two reasons why the volume wouldn’t increase is the little plastic tab isn’t aligned with the volume slider. There is a small chance that corrosion could’ve developed at the very bottom of the inside of volume control, but that would clear with a drop of isopropyl alcohol and sliding it back and forth. Just be VERY careful opening the 2ds. It’s easy to tear the ribbon cable for the camera and put you out $14 on a new one.
Well the good thing is that the OG 2DS is easy to replace, but the top screen in the 2DS XL are a pain to replace. So the sun damaged one should be an easy fix.

I bought a 3ds XL second hand. I didn't bother to throughly check the console until I got home. Just some scratches on the case but the only thing that annoyed me was that parental control. Luckily the first UA-cam I looked up helped. It was so easy. Apparently it's harder to do that on the switch.
Last year I bought a 2DS and the previous owner apparently bought Animal Crossing so it let me download it. Highly recommend checking out the redownloads section of the Eshop to see if any games are there.
Same I recently bought a second hand 3ds xl and the previous owner purchased most mario games and all the 3ds monster hunter games so that was cool
Though I am aware that these have likely all been sold by now, my guess as to why the top screen of that last 2DS XL wasn't working was cause the cable for it came loose or something, or those cracks have something to do with it

No stylus (The reason for this with my 2DS is the clip part to my stylus itself broke off)
SD Card inserted
My 2DS battery isn’t bad yet and the volume slider works perfectly fine.
That 2DS has a weird screen on both screens cause the 2DS is actually just one screen :)

The reason Minecraft: Classic Edition is only allowed for the New 3DS is due to it needs the C stick and extra buttons, plus the more powerful cpu to work!

1:41 the reason its only for new 3ds and new 2ds id because minecraft for new 3ds uses more power on the new 3ds/new 2ds cpu and ram which old 3ds and old 2ds cant run as if you run it from cartidge it will show an error message

The Electric blue 2DS came with MK7, from what I know, some Electric blue 2 2DS systems had NSMB2.

I have the og model 3DS but also bought the og model 2DS a few days ago for the cheapest price I could find bc I want to try homebrewing it. In the camera roll there where over 200 selfies made by a little kid. With like, duck face and weird faces. I deleted them but I laughed so hard
I watch these because i have a working 3DS, but if i didn’t i would avoid every 3DS video.

I stil have my 2ds xl and I homebrewed it and it does have a bit of bashes when I droped it but Im suprised the top screen wasent damaged! I gave my old 3ds xl to my sister and Did system transfer from her top screen broken 3ds xl and the sd card also got tranfered as well as the same card is stil used in my old 3ds from my sisters old 3ds

the 2ds is definitely more durable, but I would still choose the 3ds. New 3ds xl is the best one, 3ds prices are up there now

It's shocking so many games have cases. I hated the cases, I had a drawer full so I tossed them. If I can fit all my tiny ds games in my pocket I refuse to use a case lol

I’ll tell ya, you say your suprised some of these consoles are alive at all, but I’ll tell you. The ds and 3ds hold their charges for years man, pulled out my old 3ds after 4 years and it’s still at full battery

I did orginaly played minecrafty for the new 3ds and I don't like the gameplay and the reason it says for the new 3ds is because of preformance and since the new 3ds family system like the 2ds xl had a c-stick
Minecraft for the Nintendo 3DS only works on the New 3DS because it requires the C stick to control the camera.
i just bought a new 3ds xl and the seller dint mention anything about the right shoulder button not be ing responsive, any ideas how to fix it?
a really simple method you could try is checking for trapped dirt. you can clean it with a qtip dipped in IPA. if that doesnt work use a tweezer to GENTLY lift it up to unstick it. I'm not aware of any other methods that don't involve taking the cover off! Hope this helps...let us know!
6 out of 9 were great one was a bad volume slider another one was washed out and another one was broken

Unfortunately you are correct and that is very often the case (especially on ebay)
The reason why you can only play minecraft ont the new 3ds is because you need to look around with the extra button that it has
Just something i wanted to say. Every 3ds/2ds comes with a 4gb sd cars or micro sd card. So all of these should have an sd card

Local stores are your best best. If not, try ebay, try the ones with fixed prices.
