The Sainsbury’s advert is based on the true story. This actually happened at Christmas time in World war 1. The english and Germans came together for Christmas Day, exchanged presents and played football together. The next day, the soldiers did not want to fight each other but officers threatened to shoot any man who did not fight the opposition for desertion! It’s a well known incident. Shows the strength of love!
@Broken Native we ain't a socialist nation. The left would like us to be but fortunately for the rest of us they are the minority. And the high court just ruled that being woke wont be allowed to affect the freedom of speech in the UK and it's perfectly ok and peoples right to offend others 😁 I would call that a victory for common sense.
Not all english are gentle, and we haven't always been gentle, but I feel what you mean, which is the most important thing, so I hope we can look to creating a peaceful world, together, in which our only and common enemy is bad weather, or other natural disasters. no more troubles! We love you too.
You haven't been to Yorkshire, then, mate. I live right on the outskirts of Bradford (Asian majority) and a lot of people in my area absolutely hate it
Dear god man, the 2014 Sainsbury’s advert gets me every time. It was such an incredible moment in history, it almost feels hard sometimes to believe it really happened, but it really did.
The Irn Bru add is a spoof of the iconic animated film "The Snowman" which was based on the childrens book by Raymond Briggs. It's on every Christmas in the UK. The song "Walking in the air" was originally sung by choir boy Paul Auty in the 1982 film. However in 1985 a new recording was made which reached No.5 in the UK charts and made it's singer, choir boy Aled Jones, a star.
@@speleokeir thats okay, easy mistake. v only telling you for respect to him.. not to be a dick or anything... edit your comment and il delete mine if you like?
The parents in the sainsbury's musical advert were the kids' real parents, and had no idea what they were going to be watching, so their reactions are real 😊
If you're thinking of another of these, the John Lewis Ad with the song "Somewhere Only We Know" sung by Lily Allen - nice animation, very popular when it broadcast
So the Irn - Bru ad is kind of based on the movie the snowman, where the song walking in the air is from. Irn - Bru decided to make a parody of the song and the story. So as you can see this kid isn't sharing his Irn - Bru with the snowman and the snowman gets really mad so he takes his Irn - Bru and drops him. This is an iconic Scottish ad and it never changed until 2018 or 2019. Also Irn - Bru is a fizzy drink or as the Americans would call it "soda". Hope this cleared everything up.
I'm a grown man, 57 now, ex Army, with a Grandfather who fought in the Great War and a Dad who fought in the second. If I cry watching this Sainsbury's ad (which I am), you most certainly are allowed!
The 'elton john' advert touched on his strained relationship with his mother Sheila . which led to them not speaking for over 20 years. and they were only reconsiled in the last few years of her life (she died in 2017)
My great grandfather was in the Hertfordshire regiment in WW1, I looked up their history expecting to hear a heartwarming story of the 1914 Christmas truce. Nah, they waited until the Germans came towards their trenches singing , then ambushed and massacred them.
A Christmas Tradition over here is the Pantomime. It's an event for all the family to get involved in and makes you feel young again. However there are a few exceptions one you should see is Sinderella by comedian Jim Davidson - warning though its strictly adults only but seriously funny
Some information for you. Irn-Bru is a Scottish carbonated soft drink, often described as "Scotland's other national drink" (after whisky).Introduced in 1901, the drink is produced in Westfield, Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, by A.G. Barr of Glasgow. As well as being sold throughout the United Kingdom, Irn-Bru is available throughout the world and can usually be bought where there is a significant community of people from Scotland. The brand also has its own tartan. It has been the top-selling soft drink in Scotland for over a century, competing directly with global brands such as Coca-Cola.
I am surprised she does not know about the actual snowman animation. Every time I watch that advert I fall about laughing....Im falling through the air :p
I first encountered that ad through another reaction vid, and then a TV programme was broadcast a week later about the most popular British Christmas ads and I caught the part which included this, and my mum exploded with laughter upon seeing it.
I think you need to know the original Snowman film to really appreciate the humour in the ad. The Snowman from the film is so sweet and kind, it's that unexpected contrast that makes it so funny.
@Leo Oliver How many of your family and friends died from in war from ww1 till now Leo ? Did you serve Leo?me and many of my friends and family have and I didn't say I cried Leo .😖
@Leo Oliver So far in two statements you've called the general public fickle morons, filmmakers have been making money from war for years Paul McCartney's pipes of peace was on the same subject. If it keeps important events alive it's fine in my book.
@Leo Oliver it's not a tactic it was for remeberence day and if you look closely it had a popy at the end and I remember when it came out and we learned about it in School it's a really story
Late on Christmas Eve 1914, men of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) heard German troops in the trenches opposite them singing carols and patriotic songs and saw lanterns and small fir trees along their trenches. Messages began to be shouted between the trenches. The following day, British and German soldiers met in no man's land and exchanged gifts, took photographs and some played impromptu games of football. They also buried casualties and repaired trenches and dugouts. After Boxing Day, meetings in no man's land dwindled out.
This was made for the 100 year anniversary for the truth and then bars of chocolate was sold in Sainsbury’s stores and every single penny of profit went to a The Royal British Legion a charity that supports servicemen that have fallen on hard times 🥰🥰🥰
The John Lewis advert 2014 actually happened on Xmas day 1914 between Britain and Germany they stopped the war and had a game of footie...Merry Xmas 🎄xx
We do Christmas adverts differently. Definitely the best. They're so emotional, the Sainsbury's WW1 advert is by far the greatest Christmas advert I've ever seen. It's even more emotional when you know it really happened.
The 2012 John Lewis advert - using Gabrielle Aplin's cover of 'The Power of Love' (which was itself originally a christmas-season song back in the '80s, by Frankie Goes To Hollywood) - probably the most beautiful song rendition I've ever heard. Surprised it's not here.
Hi .First time I've seen your channel and I'm mightily impressed .You've got style ,humour and an excellent personality .I'm a Brit and it's nice to see someone from America that gets our sense of humour as well as you do .You're fantastic and keep up the good work .
I'd never seen that Irn Bru one before, that is hilarious! It's based on a heartwarming kids Christmas animation from the early 80's, and I just love the way they've subverted it with the cruel twist :D
Not too cruel, the kid lived in the end but Vanessa stopped it before he popped out of the hole he made upon landing, considering the kid was taunting the snowman he kind of got what he deserved.
The Sainsbury advert 2014 was the hundred year anniversary of the 1914 Christmas ceasefire that took place along various parts of the front line in WWI. Shows that underneath everything we are all humans that share the same simple wants and desires .
Its nothing to be ashamed of young woman, crying over that advert, it is very moving when you know the context of it, and how it must have been to been in that place and time. You must have a very sensitive and loving heart, which is very refreshing to see, stay safe and keep smiling!
Irn Bru - it is its own thing. Can't really compare it to anything else. You need the background of The Snowman animation (where you will have heard the song) and Irn Bru's advertising style to get fully understand it. Doing a Christmas advert in this way is probably the best demonstration of the Scottish sense of humour lol.
There's a follow up to the Snowman Irn Bru advert. Irn Bru are known for their funny adverts. The tagline from the 70's onwards is "Made in Scotland from girders".
The football match is true. Called The Christmas Day Truce, the advert was based upon written accounts from those brave soldiers who fought in the trenches. Here in Britain, the christmas advert is a huge thing here just like the christmas number one song in the charts. The Iron Bru soda drink advert video is basically pinched from a very traditional and much beloved Christmas short movie called The Snowman by Raymond Briggs, it was released in the 80s and even has a cameo by the great David Bowie at the very beginning.
Please, please, pleaseeee react to the John Lewis Monty the Penguin Christmas ad (both UK) and these two from Germany I believe. Edeka 2015 Christmas ad and DocMorris 2020 Christmas ad. You'll love them! Also: Irn Bru tastes like Lucozade with added blood lmao (sorry Scotland)
Your crying shows just how human you are. Btw, Irn Bru is a Scottish soft drink which is orange in colour but not in flavour. It is so long since I last drank it that I can't remember the flavour. The advert is based on the Christmas Cartoon Film called 'The Snowman' and the 'Snowman and Snow Dog' which are regularly shown on tv over the Christmas Period! Hope you enjoy and get to watch it this year again. The song was sung by a former Chorister from Bangor Cathedral though he was lead Soloist, he was never Head Chorister there, his name is Aled Jones, a Welsh singer who is well known over here in the UK for singing the theme tune 'Walking In The Air' from 'The Snowman' cartoon film made in 1985 and the single reached No.5 in the Christmas Charts too! Hope this info has helped you place the song and tune also that you loved all the ads as they are all so wonderfully poignant!
The Irn-Bru is a satire on an institution called "The Snowman " that is shown every year in the UK. It is so loved that we know they are doing a homage rather than a critique.
The McDonald's one at the end - during the Christmas season the carrot bags at McDonald's are rebranded as "Reindeer Treats", and it used to be common to leave out a carrot for the reindeer (along with the Sherry and Mince pie for father Christmas)
The Irn Bru advert is based on the famous and very heartwarming and wholesome animated film, called 'The Snowman'. That's where the music is from. Though the lyrics are very different in the advert, 'the irn bru is mine'. ;) It's a parody and ends with a bit of dark humour, which Brits love. :)
Just to explain the McDonalds ending Vanessa. In the UK Father Christmas comes down the chimney to bring presents for the children often put it large stockings left for this purpose . It is traditional to leave a mince pie and a drink for him and a carrot for his reindeer . The next morning most of the pie, most of the drink and most of the carrot are gone. Reindeer treats here are just an alternative to give the reindeer. The ad is using it as a mechanic to show the child within the adolescent in the same way the child within is showing the difference in reaction to his mum from when he was a child. Well that's how I read it :)
watch the 2011 and 2013 John lewis adverts in that order those are by far the best ever Christmas adverts. the 2011 advert is the one that started the whole Christmas advert thing
Don't worry, Vanessa. That was most people's reaction to that Sainsbury's ad. Even big burly men who insist that they don't cry claimed to have something in their eyes that was making them water! :)
Sainsbury’s 2014 Christmas advert is based on the Christmas Truce in 1914 the bar of Belgian chocolate featured in the advert sold out in Sainsbury’s Grimsby store where i worked at the time, i returned from my annual November visit to WW1 battlefields after paying my respects to local lads in cemeteries and commemorated on memorials in Belgium and France and laying a wreath during The Last Post Ceremony at The Menin Gate Memorial in Ieper Belgium to the advert and the bar of chocolate been sold in store. Just down the road from Prowse Point British Military Cemetery is a cross placed by The Khaki Chums a reanactment group in memory of the 1914 Christmas Truce. After the 1914 Christmas Truce both sides forbid any more fraternising with the enemy. There is a film called “Joyeux Noel” filmed in English, French and German and using British, French and German actors about the 1914 Christmas Truce filmed a number of years ago. The IRN Bru pronounced Iron Brew used scenes from The Snowman film made in the 1980s the song Walking In The Air sung by a teenage choir boy called Aled Jones (from Wales) who has released lots of albums since then.
The Sainsbury’s ad always gets me. I remember watching it in history class when covering the war it’s amazing that they really do stop to play football
been watching your videos Vanessa,so respectful to the british, had to smile while you were watching the Sainsburys advert,'oh,chocolate, well that helps during war' followed by 'sorry',so british :) Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Irn brew is Scotlands national drink, some people think its whisky but everyone loves irn bru. Its a fruity tasting drink, old and young love it especially after a heavy night of drinking lol think fruit cocktail in a fizzy form.
Its rubbish and nothing like the original recipe that was changed around 1967. I was a one to one and a half bottle a day man back then with three mars bars, the real Mars bars that is, not the rubbish of today thats more like Milky-ways.
I'd forgotten that Sainsbury's ad. Big old Englishman with four kids & a grandkid, I've teared up too. Of all the things people all over the world have in common, collective stupidity should convince us how similar we really are!
Vanessa the song you know is from the snowman it is a cover they changed it By the way in England we put reindeer food out of our door to guide the reindeer to your house British people is it a real thing or just my families tradition???
In the Irn Bru ad, the kid doesn't die. He lands in a snow drift and you see him climb out at the very end of the ad. There is also a sequel ad where he get's his revenge on the snowman.
Wow. I'd completely forgotten that amazing Sainsbury's Christmas ad from 2014. Vanessa, don't apologise for crying at that, you're not the only one. OK, so I'm an old softie, but that ad was amazing.
Tami Elizabeth Allaway thanks, I left it open as I assumed that it was something like that but wasn't sure enough of the detail.
The most special thing about this video was YOU. What a beautiful, caring and intelligent lady.
watch the 2011 and 2013 John lewis adverts in that order those are by far the best ever Christmas adverts. the 2011 advert is the one that started the whole Christmas advert thing
Don't worry, Vanessa. That was most people's reaction to that Sainsbury's ad. Even big burly men who insist that they don't cry claimed to have something in their eyes that was making them water! :)
these christmas ads are one of the best part of christmas especially the john lewis ones here in old blightey
These Xmas ads always go straight for the heart. They hope and most often invoke the spirit of Christmas.
Its a classic Christmas film remixed into an advert. Probly saw it as a kid sometime
Hi Vanessa don't be ashamed to cry it's beautiful and shows you care.❤️
At the beginning and end, Elton is playing his first piano that he got for Christmas, all those years ago. He still owns it.
The war ad is based on a true event.
The Snowman - Walking in the Air by Aled Jones! 🏴
@@martinanderson1995 alright martin
It's nice to see an honest cry! nothing wrong with it lass u cry away!
I like the Sainsbury's 2018 Christmas advert, especially the the plug in the background. Like the Irn Bru ad aswell but never seen it on TV before.
I'd forgotten that Sainsbury's ad. Big old Englishman with four kids & a grandkid, I've teared up too. Of all the things people all over the world have in common, collective stupidity should convince us how similar we really are!
Okay, I win. I cried during the McDonald's advert. :)
you had me laughing out loud - not a savage snowman at all, the kid wouldn't share his Irn-Bru :)
Vanessa the song you know is from the snowman it is a cover they changed it
By the way in England we put reindeer food out of our door to guide the reindeer to your house
British people is it a real thing or just my families tradition???
In the Irn Bru ad, the kid doesn't die. He lands in a snow drift and you see him climb out at the very end of the ad. There is also a sequel ad where he get's his revenge on the snowman.
You have to try Irn Bru, I think you might like it. My partner and me love your videos, Happy Christmas 🎄
Irn Bru is the most popular soft drink in the world. It outsells Coca-Cola. Russians drink theirs with vodka (long story).
Wow. I'd completely forgotten that amazing Sainsbury's Christmas ad from 2014. Vanessa, don't apologise for crying at that, you're not the only one. OK, so I'm an old softie, but that ad was amazing. Should have been made into a full length movie but then I would have been blubbing for an hour and a half!
OMG! Can't believe the reaction to a very humourous advert!
I prefer this snowman advert to the original snowman programme
As brits, we look forward to the Xmas ads. It's tradition. We text our friends to check out if they've seen the new sainsbury or tesco advert yet? 🇬🇧👍
