Sonic 06: Custom Paths

- We had a bit of a breakthrough on a few Sonic 06 formats that opens up a lot of modding potential. This is a custom rail path for Wave Ocean that I made as a test and exported to 06's path format. Custom object sets and custom collision are also tested and working, and custom geometry is feasible, so you can maybe expect to see some interesting stuff on Melpontro's channel soon...

By the way, this breakthrough (which was cracking the offset tables) also applies to some Sonic Colors formats that use the same kind of table, so it opens up some new modding potential in that game as well.

That's a great background for the loading screen, looking at food and getting hungry while you wait.

Does this mean that modders can now finally fix Sonic 06??
well its a start, but i dont think it can be fixed. he mentions it could also apply to sonic colors so that might have better implications since the game engine in sonic colors was much more solid. most of the issues people have with sonic 06 aren't the level layouts, its the brokenness of the game itself.
codenamegamma Well, Sonic Colors modding has technically been possible since Riivolution came out, just that there aren't any editors for it yet. Personally I'd love to see a modding community rise up for that game :)

You're better off just playing Generations mods that put the other 3D levels into the superior engine (and game).

Great work! If only sonic 06 was on PC. At least sonic colors can be played in Dolphin.

A good thing to mod into this game would be the Japanese voices, they're so much better! If you haven't heard Silver's, I'd recommend looking up the opening to his story in Japanese - your mind will be blown!

Some things this game lacks is momentum in slopes, bad scripting for automated sections, and most of all not using the physics engine correctly on the characters themselves
What kind of path format is used in this game? It might be the same in Unwiished. If so, modding the PS2 version is feasible. (Unwiished uses .path files I think)

I'm not sure there's much point since I don't think there's very many people who could make use of it that also don't abuse the DMCA. But if anything gets made for Colors, definitely.
That's a shame, I quite like 06 and would love to tinker with the files. Also, what's this about abusing the DCMA?
