My first time seeing EVITA it starred Ms. Lacey. I was BLOWN AWAY, frightened by how chilling the act one finale grabbed me by the throat and pinned me into my seat. I was in musical theatre heaven and Ms. Lacey was largely responsible. Years later, we have a mutual friend in common and I was introduced. I got tongue-tied and teary-eyed trying to explain to her how significant her performance was to me. She was very gracious, charmed actually, and we remain in occasional contact.

She's pretty fabulous...and what an actress. She injects a subtle but of silliness to a musical that can be pretty cold and bombastic. It's not the only way, but it works.

This was the 3rd U.S. national tour. The 1st national tour is the one that starred Loni Ackerman (and also featured a bunch of other Evas alternating in the role) and played Los Angeles' Shubert Theatre for 2 years then it moved on to other cities. The 2nd national tour was launched in Chicago at the Shubert Theatre and starred Valerie Perri. Not sure if that one moved to other cities after Chicago. I think this 3rd national tour was launched in Detroit at the Masonic Temple Theatre but that's off the top of my head and I could be wrong. Nice to see all three Evita tours were faithful reproductions of the original London and Broadway versions. I do notice those lights under the stage deck that shine up and illuminate the cast on stage and form an upside-down "M" with a connected circle in the center that is thrillingly used for Rainbow High are missing from this 3rd national tour. Aren't they supposed to come on during "The Art of the Possible"? But there aren't any seen in these clips. I recall the floor lights coming on briefly before the start of the number then all goes dark. Not sure if they came back on or are off during that number. Anyone know if the 3rd national tour cut those floor lights?

I'm a bit confused about the casting of this. Wonder if you can help - you seem to know what you're talking about :-). I initially thought this was the international tour, but then read your comment. I came to my conclusion because of Rob Alton being Peron (he was Valerie Perrie's Peron on the 2nd tour, and then did the international tour with Florance Lacey). Did he take over on the 3rd tour from John Lesley Woolfe? Also, who is Che in this? If it's the 3rd tour, it should be Tim Bowman, but it doesn't look like Tim. Similarly, if it's the international tour, it should be James Sbano, but it isn't him, either. Do you know?

@@EVITANDY I think you are right and I was mistaken; this likely isn't the U.S. 3rd national tour. The only thing that makes me think that is I know the international tour lacked the floor lights and upon closer inspection of these clips, it is clear this production didn't have them as they should be on during various scenes here. But it can also still be the 3rd U.S. tour if that tour also lacked the floor lights. The 3rd U.S. tour I believe was launched in 1983 (I could be wrong) and wasn't the international tour launched around 1989? Alton looks slightly older in these clips than he does on the dress rehearsal clips from the 2nd U.S. tour in Chicago with Valerie Perri so that would be consistent with this being the international tour. Florence Lacey looked the same and hardly aged between the two tours. I don't recognize this Che. He does sort of look like Sbano. The only other clue is the video quality appears to be consistent to the sort of video quality from the late 1980's / early 90's which would point toward this being the international tour. This video looks too clear and of videotape quality which wasn't the norm circa 1983, the time of the 3rd U.S. tour. I'm stumped. I hope Flo happens across this video and can enlighten us, hehe.
