One of the issues why the drone lost connection with you on all occasions when going around the building was because it did not have visual line of sight of you upon launching as the distance of the drone was large. I would recommend you repeat the same video and try it. I am sure you will get better tracking.
Thanks for your reviews on the Skydio2/2+ drone and beacon/beacon+. I have had a S2 and beacon for 8 months and have mixed results with connectivity. Having lost my drone twice now, the second time was terminal, after much wrangling, Skydio are replacing it; however, I have purchased a beacon+ because it seems the beacon+ increased power is by far the greatest factor in better connectivity as opposed to the drone 2+s antennas...which seem to be almost superfluous.
Good test.... I do have a couple questions... Can you keep the phone with your spotter while you ride with the beacon? I'm asking if the phone and beacon need to be side by side... If not, how far apart can they be? When the drone is following the beacon, do you have full control with the phone, also? If I had the drone tracking an individual with the beacon, can I stand back and have control with the phone?
Great questions. Phone to Beacon range is roughly about 100 feet with clear signal LOS. Yes, full control with the phone when drone is following/tracking with the Beacon.
I've watched many videos on the Skydio and this is the first to include the prop noise, OMFG is that loud 🔊! Between the sound and it's poor performance, you just saved me a lot of time and money. May I suggest keeping the version label on screen during its test.
Hi Mr. Dragon7: I think your problem is that you are running your Skydio(s) both with your phone and your beacon. I've had similar problems. The Skydio seems to work much better with JUST the beacon. True, you can't see the picture it is getting, but that is a minor problem. I find it does a great job being my camera crane operator on its own. Next time, try it with just your phone or just the beacon.
Also holding the beacon and the phone so close together greatly increases the chance for issues. Their signals don't like being that close to each other.
Great breakdown as always. Would've liked to see you ride away from drone when you were out on the trail. Curious how it performs without interference. Excellent demonstration of improved performance over original. I have the 2 plus but not the beacon plus just original. May have to upgrade. Lol
Thanks for the review. I've been wanting the 2+ for awhile, but too scared to shell out the $$. Many reviewers seem to have glitches and signal issues. I would need to sell my DJI Air 2 and my Mavic Pro first to be able to buy it! Thanks again for the review!
thanks for the review but didnt need it to make my decision to order the 2+ equipment on day one and sell my original kit. took skydio's word for it immediately as they are a reputable company
It's obvious that Skydio should have gone back to the drawing board after the 2 model bombed! The 2+ is not much better and still doesn't compare to my 3 y.o. Mavic pro 2.

The Beacon+ will make a very noticeable improvement, no doubt. Lmk how it works out. Thanks, happy flying!
Good test....

Yeah definitely quite a bit louder than all the other drones have I have, mostly DJI. It’s definitely the best for OA though.
nice review! would love to see some tests of OG S2 with beacon+ in tracking mode
There’s no improvement in tracking that Skydio has specifically announced. Thank you for your nice comment.

Yes, I’ve heard that and curious to test it. Thanks for the recommendation.
Interesting feedback. I'll have to try that as well. I do really like seeing what the drone is up to. Great job as always btw. 😎

Oh no, you got me thinking I should do another test of the S2+ with the 2 beacons 😂. Thanks for your comment, appreciate hearing that. Happy flying!

Nice to hear the video was helpful. Hmu with any questions.
does the original beacon works with the new skydios 2+?
Yes but the Beacon+ is definitely worth upgrading to.

Yeah pretty easy decision for me too!

Can't buy it if you live in NZ or Aus - Anyone traveling to NZ soon? lol Or buy it and ship it to me in NZ.
This shows no difference. At least you had a good run
I'm not impressed.
What do you think would make it better?
