Isn’t Checkers adorable? The colors the original stitcher chose just give me the giggles. I feel like that’s what I would’ve picked as a little girl. Heck, it’s what I would pick now! Thank you so much for your kind words and I am going to finish checkers soon!

Omg! First of all, thank you for the shoutout! Honestly though, I think you hyped the praise a bit as I’m really just a stitcher like so many others including yourself!
I thoroughly enjoyed your flosstube #1! Great job! Hopefully you know that we all need to see the wonderful samplers on the wall in detail on your next video! Do I spy Ann Grimshaw?
Again, wonderful video and I’m off to watch it again, and maybe a third time as well!
P.S. a colonial American history lesson/discussion would be fabulous!

Did you hear my fan girl screaming all the way down in Florida? I want to thank you for getting me through first the Covid lockdown and then losing most of my vision. I would have been almost totally isolated without you, Brenda, Laura, and a few others who were my “ friends” during a difficult time of my life. Yes that is Anne Grimshaw. She is my pride and joy. I recently acquired and started her sister Mary’s sampler, and once I’ve got a little more progress on her I will probably go ahead and do an entire video on the Quakers- mostly about their history and their beliefs that led them to wanting to educate girls but also showing some of the Quakers I have finished and the dozens of Quakers I have on the go. I think it’s the symmetry that makes them just so wonderful to stitch. It’s like meditation. I’m working on Notes for my next video. I think it’s going to be an introduction to the different ways women and girls have learned to stitch through time and start of looking into the different styles of the various schools. This will be rather simple and well-known information to people like you who have been immersed in Samplers for a long time, but I think it will be enlightening for some people who are new to Samplers.
Again, thank you and Mr. Professor Saltbox for hours of entertainment, inspiration, laughs, and companionship.

I just recently started stitching, smalls too, and I agree. It’s so nice to spend a day or two on a piece and then have a finish. I’m a little nervous about FFO’ing them now, but I guess if I mess up, it would take me long to make a new one right? I plan on doing one or even two episodes specifically about quaker Samplers, which are what the ones on the wall behind me are. I’ll probably pull one or two off the wall to show up close this next time when I talk about schools that taught needlework, but eventually you’ll get to see them all as well as a good look at all the many many quaker Samplers that are out there For us to reproduce. They’re really my favorite thing to stitch.

The things you held up such as samplers and thread names were backwards on the video. Some flosstubers are Stitching Scottie, Colorado Cross Stitcher, Antique Needleworkers, The Sable Stitchers, Recovering Monogamous Stitcher, Karen Combs, 911 Stitcher (good source for Bristol Samplers, Nicola Parkman Hands Across the Sea (sampler queen of Bristol samplers, Country Stitchers, Carolina Cross Stitcher (husband is on with the wife and he shows all kinds of wood work.

Thank you so much. I watch most of the same floss tubes do but there are a couple you mentioned that are new to me and I will make sure to watch them and give them a shout out. I didn’t even notice my video was backwards until about the third time I watched it was also about the same time. Somebody commented that it was backwards. I think I found the right setting on my camera, but thank you for reminding me.
I’m so glad you mentioned my diction. I actually have a very, very thick Texas twang and it’s usually not an issue when I’m teaching because my students speak the same way but often if I’m speaking or lecturing to people from different parts of the country or different parts of the world my accent seems to get worse. I was born in San Antonio so my heart lives in the Hill country even now. I absolutely adore Plum Street Samplers and have several on the go. If you can stitch Plum Street, a big reproduction sampler is nothing. How many thousands of Stitches is in one of Paulette’s gigantic houses? Or worse yet, one of her yards? I’m stitching her shepherd sampler, and I saw Carol saltbox stitcher showing her live on little sampler last night. That thing is full coverage and huge!

Oh, I love the Civil War era too although I am not really big on military history. It is so fascinating to me What the women and children and people on the homefront went through. We are so lucky in this country that wars have so seldom been fought in our own yards and homes. The sacrifices people made and the dangers they lived with and the bravery it took for them to make it through the Civil War are both sad and inspiring. I love Civil War fabrics, and quilts for just that reason. We are so lucky we live the comfortable safe lives we do and I think we owe a deep debt of thanks to the women and children who made the sacrifices for us to have what we have now.

I have a dear friend from grad school, who is some sort of administrator for historic homes museums in the Washington DC area and that just seems like a dream job to me. For many years I was a performer at the Texas Renaissance Festival, and sometimes was able to take some Elizabethan black out and demonstrate on the path, but it is very different historical acting versus more accurate reenacting. From one sampler lover to another, thank you for your video. I too mainly stitch reproduction samplers.
I've stitched both of the Walton samplers and have them hanging with other girls and boys above the bed in our guest room. When I bought my chart a couple of years ago, the two extra charts you mentioned were not included so I need to ask Marsha about them.
Like you, I mainly stitch on 36-count linen. I only recently found how to make stitching over one more enjoyable. Most of my current sampler (Ann Jonson, a HATS limited edition from Traditional Stitches) is stitched with AVAS on 38-count (or is it 37-count?) Legacy linen but I'm using soie surfine for the text. This is my first time using soie surfine, and I love how sharp the lettering looks. On a few samplers (stitched on 36-count), I've used 100.3 for the lettering and that also works well.
Are you a member of the Tudor Rose Sampler Guild? Most, if not all, of their programs are offered via Zoom. Many of their members like me are out of state. I've heard so many interesting lectures.
You might want to also want to consider joining my guild, the Queen City Sampler in Cincinnati, next year. I'm programs co-chair and some of our lecturers will be Claudia Dutcher Kisner on Colored Bristol Samplers, Kim Ivey from Williamsburg, Lianne from 1897 Schoolhouse Samplers, Joanne Lukacher on Samplers in the Vassar College Collection, and Katie Strachan on Needlework Caskets and 17th Century Embroidery. We will also offer two mini workshops via Zoom. We’ll also be offering a Day with Barbara Hutson of Queenstown Samplers (sorry, not via Zoom). If you haven't yet stitched any of Barbara's samplers, you should check them out.
Sorry, I didn't mean to be so long-winded. Happy sampler stitching!

I can’t tell you how many of Barbara‘s Samplers are in my WIP pile she is one of my favorite designers. In fact, I think I will work on a video just on my Queenstown Samplers soon.
I have never stitched with Soie Surfine, but I think I’m going to order some for the over one on Jane Atkinson. (I’m stitching a 40 count linen I dyed myself and it is so tight and there is so much over one!) thank you so much for watching it for all the wonderful ideas. Perfect I am professor stitch on there too I think. I haven’t been on Instagram all that much since they changed the format I used to love to get on there and all I saw was old houses in the Irish countryside and stitching now I don’t know what’s going to be on any given page and I can’t find any of the people I used to follow

Great job! Would love history along with stitching, especially colonial. You have a wonderful way of presenting. I will definitely be back for more! Happy stitching!

I am so glad you enjoyed it. I’m planning on talking a little bit about some of the schools that taught needlework as part of their curriculum in my next video. I hope you will join me then.

Thank you for your first flosstube. Good job. You might want to rewatch this. It looks to me like the orientation is backwards as if I am looking at the back of your work.

Welcome to FlossTube! I’m a relative newcomer, as well. The more the merrier. I love me some samplers and some history!
